Mods šŸ”§ The Backstop!

Post image

I have to say, the instructions made no sense in terms of plain English, with that being said- this thing is amazing.

I’m going to buy a cheap eBay one and put it into my 550 and A/B them. The stability is amazing.

Does this fully block the tremolo in place, so it cannot move in either direction, or does it only restrict it to forwards movement like divebombs?

It’s just a stabilizer. You can do bombs and pull up. It keeps more strength onto the block so the other notes don’t flutter, and if the string breaks there’s enough force from those springs To keep it locked enough to keep it in tune.

Does this backstop make it harder to bend than without it?

You can get an ESP Arming Adjuster - it's essentially the same thing in a single stopper format.

Didn’t want a single stopper, mostly was aiming for Ibanez specific for what the guitar is.

Watching the pitch return back to 0 everytime is a great confidence boost. šŸ˜ŽšŸ¤˜

It’s not really about that more than the actual tuning stability of the overall chords or the guitar being a floating system actually feeling almost hardtail

Awesome guitar! I've wanted one of those for the longest time. I had the Blue Floral and it was a terrific guitar.

I owned one in 2012 for 20 min. (Had to return it because I wrecked my car leaving the shop) Always been a dream guitar, anyway— I finally was looking at them for 6 months and said ā€œif I don’t buy it now, it’ll be unobtainableā€ so I saved up and just pulled the trigger

Is that the Edge 3?

Absolutely not. Original edge. This is an ā€˜89.

I’ve been wondering. Is the backstop similar to the ZPS 3 stabilizer? The mechanics look a bit different

Does it make the bar feel stiffer? Steve Vai doesn’t seem to mind.

Yeah it makes it stiffer. I believe the zps3 was made only because of the Gibson lawsuit with the backstop itself. I remember that system is relatively the same.

You can tell Vai run evo pretty stiff if you watch stuff like K’m Pee Du Wee he’s holding that bar and you can see the other notes aren’t even shifting. Which I find the affect when I grab it I have to apply the force rather than my palm possibly moving the notes prematurely.

Wait I have a stupid question

Does the backstop only apply force when pulling up on the bar? To bring it back to zero point.

Or does it apply force in both directions? So when you push down on the bar and release, it’s applying negative resistance?

Really hard to explain verbally

How are pull ups with it? Can you still get nice flutters ?

1

u/DrSX70 8d ago

Pull-ups are the same. I think depending on how tight you set it, flutters more or less. Currently set it to the instructions you don’t get petrucci flutters at all. Also not what I’m going for really. I want less wurrbly notes that are ringing

I tried a similar one before and I hated how many noises that thing made when pulling up. Is this one the same or is it silly smooth and quiet?

Super quiet
