Advice Needed! Could this be medical malpractice? IVF pregnancy loss after genetic results were never explained to us (California)

My wife and I went through IVF in SoCal. We were told everything looked fine after genetic screening and proceeded with a PGT-A tested embryo.

Unfortunately, at 16 weeks, we discovered severe fetal abnormalities and ultimately had to terminate the pregnancy.

Afterward, I found out our genetic screening had flagged carrier results, including one linked to skeletal and heart abnormalities. The clinic never informed us or discussed genetic counseling. THEY LITERALLY SAID EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE!

We don't know if these findings were related to the pregnancy loss, but we're devastated and frustrated that we weren't informed.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Should we consult a malpractice attorney, request our medical records, or get an independent genetic evaluation first?

We're honestly lost and would appreciate any advice on what to do next.

TRIGGER WARNING Was This Pregnancy Announcement Completely Tone-Deaf?

Hey, I need an honest outside perspective. Am I overreacting, or was this genuinely insensitive?

I have a friend (who has a history of crossing boundaries) who has previously tried to compete with my husband and me financially, pried into our personal business, and canceled plans at the last minute countless times. My husband is pretty much done with this friendship, but I’ve continued trying to maintain it.

We were pregnant around the same time. She was expecting her second child, while my husband and I were finally expecting our IVF miracle after FOUR years of infertility, three failed IUIs, and a failed embryo transfer. As many of you know, infertility is an incredibly difficult journey, and I’m beyond grateful for our daughter.

Recently, she reached out after we hadn’t spoken in a while. We caught up, exchanged pictures of our kids, and talked about motherhood, postpartum health, and our cycles, as we’ve done before.

I mentioned that I’m almost 11 months postpartum and still haven’t gotten my period back because I’m breastfeeding. This is a particularly sensitive subject for me because we’re hoping to have another child, and I need to wean before moving forward with our next embryo transfer. Our fertility journey is still complicated, with treatment protocols and insurance approvals to navigate.

Her response? She told me that one friend got her period back four months postpartum and another got hers back just six weeks postpartum and even thought she was pregnant again.

I was already a little taken aback by those comparisons, but I responded politely, explaining that my OB-GYN said breastfeeding can delay the return of my period and that our journey hasn’t been easy.

Immediately after that message, she replied, “Guess what?” and sent me a picture of a pink onesie announcing that they’re expecting a baby girl.

Am I wrong for finding the timing incredibly insensitive? I'm not saying people shouldn't share their pregnancy announcements with me. I'm genuinely happy for others, and I know how fortunate I am to have my daughter. But after I had just opened up about a sensitive part of our ongoing fertility journey, the immediate announcement felt completely tone-deaf.

And considering the history of this friendship, I feel like this was the final straw. I'm ready to end the friendship altogether.

Am I being too sensitive, or would you also find this upsetting? I genuinely want an outside perspective.

Advice Needed! Considering not trying because of NeEdLeSs

Hi. Brand new to IVF. Unexplained infertility for +1 year. Skipping straight to trying IVF (no IUIs etc). I’m 35 yo female and partner is 39 male. I have a high follicle count (31), great AMH, great health. Partner is good but haven’t tested sperm quality yet. The digital Birds & Bees said he was good.

I’ve got an IVF plan from Pollin fertility and I just learned that it’s 10-12 days of stimulation injections and 1 intramuscular trigger shot. I think. 🤔 and I’m TERRIFIED of doing this. I’m considering foregoing the whole thing.

Then I also think: it’s over is quick, I can do this, it will be fine….

Later, when I’m at home on the couch and thinking this through, I’m quite certain I can’t do the 30-34 needles… I have no godly understanding how I’m going to do this many injections. Let alone one.

I’ve read this subreddit through and through and it seems the discussions keep centering on how hard IVF is, but that needles weren’t so bad.

Recognizing the emotional and psychological burden, the relationship pressures - and probably not fully understanding what everyone is truly alluding to - I feel ever more uncertain about how I’m going to start/manage the needles and would truly appreciate anyone to over share on the needles topic for me!!

Much love ❤️

Rant Failed IVF... AGAIN

Yesterday we found out that our transfer was unsuccessful. This is our third round of IVF. Our first round was successful and I am forever grateful for that as we have a beautiful 2 year old son. I just don't understand how the last 2 transfers were unsuccessful. The doctor said we were in perfect health, everything was great and the odds were on our side, even greater since our first round was a success. Now I'm sitting here, defeated, devastated and lost as that was our last "normal" embryo and our last chance at adding to our family. I guess it's just hard for me to grasp that we're officially done, and watching her throw away her medication schedule and tell me "I guess we can sell our baby stuff now" really killed me. Going to be hard but I need to accept it. End rant.

Advice Needed! When to move to ivf

*** i had to repost this because it was taken down due to one phrase, thank you to those who have already commented!

I am currently doing my 3rd IUI cycle and im struggling with the decision of to keep trying iui or move to ivf.

I am 30 years old and have only been trying for 11 months. I think thats where my hesitation is lying. But i started IuIs because my husband has mild male factor infertility and my cycles were very irregular. Not sure I was ovulating every month.

ive been responding to the medicated cycle well follicle wise but my lining is never over a 6 by the time my eggs are mature. My husbands samples are always in line with what they are looking for post wash like 8-10m.

Ive given IUI a fair chance i feel like, and i want to move to IVF because its just got way higher success rates but I feel like im also so early in the journey at the same time.

I’d love to know thoughts from others who were in similar situations

Need info! Impacts of Stress

Does anyone have any evidence-based data on how stress impacts egg development, implantation, misscarriage and pregnancy?

I am, to put it mildly, extremely stressed as a person in general, and have a very demanding job that is high risk and requires me to be there 7 days a week. Plus now the whole IVF process is making it 100x worse. And to top it all off I am stressed that I am stressing too much.

Help 😭

Advice Needed! Did anyone do a vaginal biometrics test? Like Evvy?

https://www.evvy.com

My ND is suggesting it, but we would delay transfer to do it. I don’t have any symptoms or known issues, but she says that a specific biome is needed for implantation and carrying to term. I’m debating if it’s worth the delay.

Advice Needed! FET

Has anyone ever frozen embryos and then couldn’t do a FET?

My body is actually being insane. For background I have a LC 4 years old and have had 3 losses ranging from 7-24 weeks since then).

I did my retrieval and got 3 Euploid embryos from the first round and we are done since we only want one more child.

I have been gearing up for a FET since August and for some reason my follicles keep growing before my baseline appointments (and more follicles than my retrieval cycle) and Lupron and Ganerelix don’t seem to be stopping it. I am starting to spiral and think this will never happen for me. My doctor has never seen this before and I don’t think knows what to do.

Right now our plan is to try medicated again with both Lupron and ganerelix the day after I ovulate next instead of waiting a week. A Modified natural would require my body to not recruit a follicle so early in my cycle so we don’t think that’s an option since I have multiple cycles before CD1 on the meds.

Now for the first time ever my body is acting weird when it comes to ovulating. I stopped the meds on CD11 when my FET was canceled. I am currently on CD19 and my follicles are now shrinking and we can’t even trigger to cause ovulation to move this cycle along due to my follicles being too small.

Has anyone had this happen before? What was the outcome?

Rant Feeling defeated 😣

I’m just here to rant, I’m completely defeated today.

Since January we’ve had 3 failed natural cycle IUI.
In June we had a good egg collection round but due to high risk of OHSS we had to freeze all 8 day 5 blasts.
August we had a natural cycle embryo transfer 5AA, cycle failed.
Doctor suggested switching to a fully medicated round this cycle. Lining grew well to just under 9mm, went for a progesterone blood test yesterday ready for today’s transfer, the doctor called this morning. Progesterone too low at 14.4 cycle cancelled. Try again next cycle on a higher dose.

It feels never ending 😣

Advice Needed! Not sure what to do

I have a daughter from my first marriage who is almost 6 and I did IVF to conceive her.

I am now remarried and trying to have kids with my husband. We ideally want two. I froze my eggs at 33 when I got divorced. I just did a retrieval at age 37 and also inseminated my previously frozen eggs during that cycle.

Stats:

Age 33 eggs: 4 eggs, 3 fertilized, 2 made it to blast, 1 5AA PGT-A normal embryo

Age 37 cycle: 5 mature eggs, 2 fertilized none made it to blast

Would you do another retrieval (or two or three) to get more embryos to have hopefully more than one child OR would you transfer the one well graded embyro? If the transfer works, I would be age 39/40 when I did my next retrieval. I would ideally like to have a child soon so that the age gap isn't too big between my daughter and any future kids.

Need info! Tell me your worst side effects from femara/letrozole

Asking for your worst experiences, if it didn’t affect you at all that’s great! But if you had any side effects please let me know. Trying to prove to someone that just because one person didn’t get side effects from a specific medication doesn’t mean someone else didn’t.

General Question Where do I get a Follistim Pen? (Not the medicine/t)

I’m at my wits end.

We have to start Friday. The pharmacy gave me a small box with a cartridge inside and needles. And then said they don’t see that their supplier offers a pen. That when they type Follistim, only the cartridge comes.

I’m freaking out on where I can purchase just the pen. I don’t see it anywhere. Can anyone help? Would those generic peptide pens on Amazon be the same?

Need Hugs! Panic attack at beginning of IVF

Hi all, my husband and I are about to go through our first-ever round of IVF through Shady Grove Fertility in Colorado. I’ll be honest - I feel completely in the dark about so much of this process because everything I’ve learned has been through videos they are sending through a portal vs a human explaining it to me. I received my treatment calendar today and am getting multiple texts from Walgreens and my specialty pharmacy about prescriptions being filled, and I’m drowning in information overload without any human instruction on what I am supposed to be doing and when, other than words on a calendar and video links (and yes, I left a message for the nurse to call me).

Is this normal? I found myself suddenly hyperventilating on the couch as I was reading everything because I feel like I’m 100% driving blind.

Advice Needed! Antibiotic with egg retrieval?

Were you given doxycycline prior to your egg retrieval? I understand it's given as prevention of infection. Just trying to decide if it's universal or not, because it's a harsh antibiotic.

Need Hugs! Devasted, please help!

My 4th nontested transfer, negative. Previous was a miscarriage. I just turned 41 and I’m losing hope.
I’ve had a tough life and the only thing I truly only want is to a mom with my husband, a healthy family.
I don’t feel loved by God. So many bad mothers out there, including mine, and I don’t get to be a mother.
I’m feeling, I don’t even know, there’s no meaning in life for me if I can’t be a mother. Please don’t suggest adoption or someone’s else’s egg, this is not a part of me not what’s truly in my heart.

Advice Needed! Bingo, type "they gave up and then it worked!", is there some truth to it?

Since the nosy assistant of my gyn asked, I told her some more details of my "journey" and got hit with my favourite bingo "I know these patients, they transferred because they were done, they had given up. And now they have two children!". Just to close with "the mental side is important". Guess Im just doing another thing wrong then, thanks. I regret having talked to her, I already hadnt liked her selfserving curiosity, way out of line. But that's not the point for now.

In fact I hear that bingo so often. Almost every time I confide in someone that Im doing IVF. Right behind "have you considered adoption?".

I know a couple that tell this story, too. When you dig deeper they say, they were not done, just very defeated and taking a break but they would have in fact tried again. So not really given up.

But since I'm very tired and defeated, my question is: is there something to it? Some magic release that makes my body make a child? If not: what are your favourite answers to that bingo?

Advice Needed! Unsure if I need to be proactive or wait and see

As a disclosure, I have no diagnosis of DOR and have had no other testing done. My numbers aren't as low as I've seen on this page, but I thought this community would be knowledgeable and have kind advice, so thank you in advance.

29y/o who has had a series of lowering AMH values. I had them done as I was part of Cofertility for about 18mo. 9/24: amh 2.44, 1/26: amh 1.75. Both of those values I had my mirena IUD, so I decided to remove it and see if that changed anything. fast forward to 10/26 and its 1.5. everything that ive read says that a 29y/o should be at 2.5 or higher, so I'm worried that I need to pursue fertility treatments now.

My fiance and I are in a point in our careers where we were planning on waiting a few more years before having kids (I want 3-4 if possible), so I'm worried that if we wait my reserve will fall off a cliff and then I will be a poor responder to IVF. I made an appointment to have a consult, AFC and labwork done, but its scheduled on day 6 of my cycle (the clinic didn't ask my cycle day and that was their only availability before I go back to school).

Now I'm worried that I am overreacting and I shouldn't spend money we don't have right now (#inschoolandindebt) and we should wait until we are done with school to look deeper. am I overthinking all of this? or is that decline worrisome and I should jump on it?

Advice Needed! Timing for BC before modified natural FET?

My nurse told me to start taking BC the day after my full flow (which is this morning/today), but didn't give a specific time. Did y'all have specific instructions for taking the birth control pills before your FETs or is it just anytime?

I guess I'm just used to the specificity involved in the ER meds so don't want to mess it up. Thanks!

Advice Needed! Switch clinic?

Can anyone give me advice?

I’ve done 5 IVFs with my current dr at ccrm Houston
0.6-0.8 AMH
1st cycle: bcp priming 225 gon 225 memo duel trigger 12 eggs > 6 fertilized -> 1 blast (inconclusive) got pregnant but bio chem
2nd cycle: we decided to switch to micro flare and it was the worst 0 blast!
Took 3 months break and ate all kind of diff supplements
3rd cycle: no priming this time 300 gon 150 meno dual trigger 12 eggs > 9 fertilized > 3 blasts! But I’m dumb for not testing but all 3 did not implant.
4th cycle: we followed the same protocol: 9 eggs > 8 fertilized > 1 blast abnormal
5th cycle: dr wanted to use the same protocol: 6 eggs > 5 fertilized > 2 blasts but only 1 is good for biopsy and it was abnormal

I discussed the next step and the doctor wants to use the same protocol which I’m not sure about that.

I’ve asked about estrogen priming but he said it’s not a good protocol and could suppress more and suggest I should keep trying the same protocol and hope for one good egg….

I was 38 at the 1st cycle, 39 at 2nd and 3rd. And 40yo at 4th and 5th

Should I switch to a different doctor? That means I would need to switch clinic bc my clinic doesn’t allow switching to a diff doctor at the same clinic.

Can you ladies give me advice whether or not I should switch clinic? Anyone who’s over 40 have better outcome after switching clinic?

Advice Needed! Two back to back failed FETs

What questions would you ask? My SIS came back normal when I did my first transfer. I don’t think I have an underlying condition, labs came back normal. My doctor wants to do lupron but it’s SO expensive and I really don’t want to do that.

Advice Needed! IVF at RSC in San Ramon vs Sutter Health in Fremont

Does anyone have experience going through IVF at either Reproductive Science Center in San Ramon, CA or Sutter Health in Fremont, CA? I’m looking to switch to one of them starting in January 2027. I’m currently with Kaiser at Fremont, CA. But the waitlist for an egg retrieval is about 5+ months out. Any advice is much appreciated!
