My husband has a talent for buying beautiful things we don't need

My husband bought this chair for the little spot by our back door and was very proud of how it looked.

BUT it killed the left door... Between the chair and the plant beside it, that side is almost unusable now. Even pulling the curtain has turned into this careful little obstacle course, I'm convinced I'm going to knock that plant over one day.

And I don't understand what the chair is doing here. Nobody sits by the door. At best it's going to become a fancy place to throw a jacket when we get home.

He keeps saying it looks perfect here. I keep saying that's easy to say when you're not the one actually using the door and cleaning around all of this.

The chair itself is nice, which is why I feel like this is such a waste of it. Surely there's a better spot where it could actually be used instead of guarding half the doorway.

Please tell me I'm not being UNREASONABLE here. And if you're on his side, I need a very convincing explanation!

struggling with an awkward living room corner, trying not to ruin our warm vintage vibe with a bulky recliner

there is this empty corner right next to the curtains and sofa that has been driving me nuts. an accent chair feels a bit useless bc i know i'll never sit in it, and what i actually want is a comfortable spot to unwind after work.

the problem is our living room has a pretty specific vintage look going on (olive green curtains, yellow arc floor lamp, dark wood tones and plants). every standard recliner or massage chair i find looks like a giant futuristic spaceship that would completely wreck the cozy aesthetic.

ive been looking at those nouhaus lounge massage chairs bc they actually pass as a mid-century accent chair with an ottoman instead of looking like bulky medical equipment. but i have serious anxiety about matching the leather tone and wood shell with our current setup. not sure if a warm cognac/tan leather would complement the yellow lamp and green curtains, or if the wood trim is gonna clash with our coffee table.

as you can see from the pic, the corner space isn't huge either. curious if anyone went with a mid-century style lounge recliner in a dark/green space like this or if the leather tone is just gonna dominate the whole room.

I am super happy with how this turned out! It will be a while before we can do a proper reno but in the meantime I wanted to at least enjoy the space. Some peel and stick wall paper and a cabinet really did wonders!

Painting sage green with lime wash over a brighter green, help needed

Hi all, I've never done proper wall painting before, but the color that was used for my business just did not turn out how I wanted due to poor communication between the branding people and the builders, so I'm going to repaint it myself.

Right now, its a too bright green. I want to paint it a sage green (our company's main color) with a texture lime wash look. Can someone recommend a guide or give me the basic steps for painting a lighter color over a brighter color and doing the lime wash? This is all new to me. The photos are the current paint (horrible, ha) and the look I'm trying to achieve. Thanks!

The floors have been redone to a nice polished concrete since that photo was taken.

Best wallpaper resources on a budget?

Post image

What are your favorite places to purchase this type of wallpaper or wallpaper in general? The original seller for this is wayyy out of my budget, I’m looking for something that isn’t going to cost more than a couple hundred dollars, ideally less. I don’t expect a dime for a penny, but I want to believe there’s stuff like this out there for less than a thousand lol. (Maybe wishful thinking) I love the illustrative/painting style and the linen-like texture. Do you have experience purchasing wallpaper like this? I’m not experienced in this at all, so your advice is appreciated!
Edit: Getting only bot comments?? 😭 are there any real people on here?

Fireplace in awkward L shaped spot

Has anyone got any suggestions on how to handle the combo of fireplace and L shaped living/diner? We want to be able to relax by the fireplace but can't seem to make a room that transitions well.

Am I making our living room too outdated?

The first is a mockup for my vision of our living room. The painting on the left wall is a Samsung Frame TV. I bought these pieces for cheap on FB Marketplace and I’m going for a dark, cherry wood/classic vibe. My husband thinks it looks too stuffy and outdated. What do you think?

Halloween Piano Setup! Help me choose which scarf to display?!

Hi everyone!!!!!

I’m so proud of how my piano setuup turned out for halloween this year, but I’m completely torn on the wall art choice and could use your expert eyes!!

For the display, I used tea cups and small plates as candleholders to group all the candles together nicely.

The big debate now is the scarf displayed above using a magnetic hanger.

Option 1: the skeleton rider, very contemporary/rock design... It gives an edgy, spooky vibe that I feel works really well with the red/burgundy candles.

Option 2: a gorgeous sky-blue background with pumpkins. I love this scarf so much and really want to display it more often, but every time I put it up, I feel like it looks a little odd against the surrounding decor.

Which one works better for the space? Do I go with the edgy skeleton vibe that matches seamlessly... or is there a way to make my beloved pumpkin scarf work?

How do I get that natural "mismatched but still matchy" style without making it too matchy?

I like decorating my apartment, but I feel like I always fall into a trap of pretty much matching everything in a way. Not necessarily that everything is one single color, more that I choose a couple of colors and use those throughout.

This is obviously common, and a good way to start, but I feel like some of the best decorated rooms aren't perfectly matched everywhere, making it feel more natural and not as "curated".

I love rooms where something sticks out, but I can't always put my finger on what makes something that sticks out actually works, without just looking messy.

As an example, right now I'm thinking about buying this throw for my apartment:

https://clrclr.com/products/flora-woven-throw-blanket?variant=47405166690527

My instinct would be to decorate my room with just those colors, pink, blue, teal/green and beige/mustard, but this would probably become way too much and too matchy.

My furniture is mostly beige, white or grey right now, to have a clean slate for adding colors.

What could complement a throw like that one, or is the throw just too dominant and decides the complete color palette of the rest of the room?

Title: Where do you find whimsical, vintage-inspired European kids’ bedding and bedroom decor?

Thumbnail

I’m decorating my two little ones’ bedrooms and looking for bedding and decor with a very specific aesthetic. I’ve attached some inspiration photos!

I love the nostalgic, whimsical European children’s room look — think vintage florals, gingham, colorful stripes, patchwork quilts, natural wood, and playful little details. Something that feels a little French countryside meets retro Scandinavian, but still colorful and fun.

Some brands I love are Playlinen, Garbo & Friends, Konges Sløjd, and Sage x Clare.

I’m especially looking for:
Beautiful fitted crib sheets and bedding with interesting prints
Smaller European or Australian brands and independent boutiques
Whimsical wall art, quilts, and unique decorative pieces
Shops that curate this aesthetic rather than typical mainstream nursery decor
I’m based in the US, so ideally I’d love recommendations for brands or stockists that ship here.
I’d especially love to discover smaller brands, Etsy shops, or independent makers that I might not have come across yet!

Does anyone have recommendations or favorite shops? I’d love to see your kids’ rooms too!

Help settle my thought: I like the dresser, I just don't know how to make it belong here...

I bought this new dresser for the bedroom and I still like the piece itself, but now that it's actually in the room, it feels a little... dropped in?

It's pretty dark, it has a lot of visual weight, and sitting there by itself is making it stand out more than I expected. I can't tell if the problem is the color or if it just needs something around it so it feels more intentional.

Would a floor lamp beside it help? A plant? Art? Maybe something taller on one side to balance it out?

There's also another finish available, which I put in pic 2, and now I'm wondering if the lighter color would be easier to work with in a bedroom.

I'm not ready to give up on it yet. Any styling trick that could make this look less random and more like it actually belongs here?

Too many globe lights??

Thumbnail

Hi everyone. We're redoing this large back room area (400 sq ft of our 1400 sq ft house) and I have a question about some of the lighting/finishing touches. For context, this back room is off the Kitchen and on one side it's a sitting area with couches, chairs, a bar area and a record player. The other side is a formal dining room. On the dining room side I feel confident that we want a more horizontal light. The table seats up to 8 and is horizontal, so I want to get good light across the full area.

In the cocktail/sitting area, I know I'm going to put 2 sconces on one wall on either side of a piece of art/above a couch, and I found ones I really like, but I'm worried that when you go back there you'll see a total of 13 globes lit up and it will be too matchy.

There will be other lighting -- a pendant light and probably a floor lamp in the cocktail area, and an art light in the dining area, and we can layer in more as we see it needed -- but is it odd that the primary lighting in both areas is gonna be these little globes or is it a tasteful reference?

All advice is helpful, thanks!

I’m about to paint these spindles and want to go the extra mile and paint the balls on the spindles a separate colour but can’t decide what colour- my front runner right now is burgundy to match the carpet. Please let me know any suggestions or if you think it’ll look weird and not to bother, thanks

I had posted a week or so ago that I hated my grey kitchen and wanted to warm it up somehow, without doing a demo or changing any of the big stuff. The main advice I got was add sage green, add plants, less black, and change the lighting and curtains. Ya’ll were SO helpful! Here is where I’m at…

I simplified the stuff above the cabinets, added lots of plants, incorporated sage green into the room everywhere I could, changed the curtains, took lots of the black items out, got warmer bulbs, and removed seat cushions.

I have some green runners coming for the floors, and I want to replace the pantry door with a wood one, and I’m considering getting new stools. That’s where I am at so far.

I know this kitchen isn’t everyone’s style. It’s rustic, the antlers, deer skull and geese must stay, it’s our way of life and I wanted to keep that put. But I took as much of the advice as I could and it really helped.

Thank you to you all for the suggestions, and if you have more, I’m ALL EARS! 💚

Need to Full Makeover

I bought my first house and although I love it, I can’t stand the dark blue on the first floor. It’s an open concept with a sunken living room. The dark blue feels very heavy and dark. I’m looking to get rid of the blue entirely and use greens, gray, greige, or neutrals to make a calm, tranquil, and inviting feel. Please help!! New furniture is needed too.
