/r/gwinnett monthly personals thread

Since there has been an influx of threads about meeting people, will have a reoccurring megathread for people to post/chat/say hi every few weeks. New post will be made on the first of each month at 6am. Keep things sfw and civil. If you want nsfw stuff, go to r/atlantar4r or other similar subs.

Else, if you'd like to meet folk, be proactive. People won't come to you.

How to meet new people in your area!

  • Participate in the subreddit so people know you’re not a complete weirdo when they look at your post history. Or maybe you are... no big deal.
  • Find something YOU want to do such as a patio restaurant, bar, de-trashing a part of town, festivals, museum, sitting in a park on a blanket watching squirrels, etc.
  • Make an event. Post the date, time, location, and any follow up information that might be relevant to people who might want to come out to your meetup.
  • Show up to your own meetup and post the updates such as table location or meeting spot or how people can find you in the daily.
  • Note: It is entirely possible that no one will show. But you chose something you were already going to enjoy doing so you’ve not lost out on anything.

credit goes to apcolleen for the original version of the "how to meet new people" post.

Else, there's also an active discord for the general metro-atlanta area (if you'd like to join). Welcome to hop into chat, say hi and chat about random stuff. If you'd like to meet folks irl, there are also weekly meetups around the metro. https://discord.gg/XptvfEbhxk
Or, if you prefer something more local, there's also the Gwinnett Goblins discord. https://discord.gg/SNmK9h28jV

Group guitar lessons

Hey there!! I’m 57 and learning the guitar. Does anyone know where I can find some group guitar lessons that aren’t too expensive? I’m getting quotes for like $40 for like 45 mins. I checked the county and I know classes are free if you’re 65 at the universities. Thanks!!!

Adult birthday party spots

Does anyone have any recommendations for an event hall, restaurant, or venue that has full service options? I just want to go to a spot that has the food, the bar, and the cleanup service.

It’s for an adult birthday party. I just want this to be as easy as possible so I can have a good time and my friends can too! Attendance would be about 50-75 people.

Meet-Up Looking for a biker buddy

Howdy, I ride an SV 1000 Sport Bike, been doing so for quite a spell. Haven't ridden with anyone since 2018 and having a friend to ride with would be awesome. I ride to enjoy the great outdoors and camaraderie. A bromance would be an added benefit. I m in North Gwinnett, if interested, DM, thanks.

Black OB/GYN or Midwife Recommendations?

We’re somewhat new to the area and I need a culturally-relevant care provider. Is there anyone you’d recommend? I’m sure there are amazing doctors from all sorts of backgrounds, but I need someone who understands my background and culture firsthand. Thank you in advance!

I could go with ITP doctors but traffic and long commutes is something I’m trying to avoid, if at all possible.

Are Early Voting Locations Open Tomorrow (10/25/26)?

I work a full shift (9A-7P) on 11/3, so I’m probably gonna have to vote early for the first time ever (since becoming of age to vote in 2012, I’ve always voted with my dad on Election Day). I didn’t realize early voting locations were open on the weekends. Does anyone know if any of them will be open tomorrow? If none are, then I should have time before work on 10/30 to early vote (or maybe I’ll just wake up extra early one day next week and go before heading into work).

Gwinnett county charging 277k for public documents.

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

I am a student journalist, I have been researching Gwinnett, and Forsyth counties flock audits. In the image you will notice I only asked for one singular month of data. Keep in mind the data that I am asking for is a simple export to a csv file already built into the flock system. Forsyth charged me only 16 dollars for 3 months worth of data. What is Gwinnett hiding?

EDIT: I forgot to include that per : O.C.G.A. § 50-18-71(c)(1)
An agency has to use the most economically efficiently way to retrieve these documents, this includes

“shall not exceed the prorated hourly salary of the lowest paid full-time employee who, in the reasonable discretion of the custodian of the records, has the necessary skill and training to perform the request; provided, however, that no charge shall be made for the first quarter hour.”

So the lowest paid able bodied person to retrieve these documents gets paid 105k a year?

Hey Gwinnett residents, what makes it worth it to visit downtown/midtown over staying inside Gwinnett?

I live in Gwinnett County, roughly 25–30 minutes from Downtown Atlanta, although traffic can easily turn that into a 40–45 minute drive.

Lately, I’ve been wanting to spend more of my free time in the city rather than sticking to the usual places around Gwinnett. I’m naturally drawn to urban environments, walkability, public transit, and just the general atmosphere of being surrounded by people and activity.

There’s nothing necessarily wrong with Gwinnett, but I feel like I’m missing out on a different kind of lifestyle by spending most of my time in the suburbs.
For those of you who live in Gwinnett or the surrounding suburbs but regularly head into Downtown, Midtown, or other Atlanta neighborhoods for leisure, what makes the trip worthwhile?

I’m especially curious about things you enjoy doing in the city that you can’t really experience in Gwinnett. It doesn’t necessarily have to involve spending money, going to bars, or attending events. Even just walking around, exploring neighborhoods, or enjoying the atmosphere counts.

I’m basically looking for reasons to make the city a more regular part of my life rather than somewhere I only visit for special occasions.

Cool Shit I made a post a couple days ago looking for my tribe…

Some of you may remember my post looking for like-minded people to hang out with. If you don’t, I ended up finding quite a few people who were surprised that I’m 38 and don’t have kids.
So, I decided to create my own Reddit community for adults without children who live in or around Gwinnett County, Georgia!

The goal is simple: to help childfree adults connect, make new friends, find people with similar interests, and plan local meetups. Whether you’re looking for people to grab dinner with, explore new places, enjoy hobbies, or just hang out, this group is for you!

If you’re 18+, live in the area, and don’t have children, come join us! Let’s build a local community and make some new friends. 😊

The group is called ChildfreeGwinnett

Here’s the link https://www.reddit.com/r/ChildfreeGwinnett/s/eMuakSFFA

Anyone around Gwinnett looking to meet new people and make some local friends?

I feel like there are probably a lot of people around Gwinnett who'd like to meet new people, make friends, or just find more things to do around the area.

Whether you've lived here your whole life, recently moved here, or just want to expand your social circle, it can be surprisingly difficult to meet people outside of work and your usual routine.

There's a local Discord community where people from Gwinnett and surrounding areas can chat, share local events, find people with similar interests, plan hangouts, or just get to know each other.

Nothing formal, just a laid-back space to connect with other locals and hopefully make some genuine friendships.

If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, feel free to join! and pass this link along to others you see posting about meet-ups, seeking friends and hobbies.

https://discord.gg/NuW6x5CjY8 - It's called ATL Social Circle
