FAQs:

State of the Game:

GW has been in “Maintenance Mode” (no scheduled updates/development) since May 2013. On 3rd December 2025 ArenaNet "re-launched" GW as GW Reforged. This has breathed some new life into the game and an external company 2weeks has supported development. They are continuing to look at the game to see if it is viable to make improvements/updates. In-game there is bump in player activity. There has always been a good player base for daily Zaishen Quests and Farming as well as in Guild and Alliance communities. You can checkout the What’s New in Guild Wars and Game updates from the Wiki for the changes to the game.

We’re lucky that since 2024 GW Game Director, DrStephenCW is allocating 80% of their time to work directly on GW. Along with support from other ArenaNet staff for various updates, this has included the 20th Anniversary Game Update and Guild Wars Reforged. ArenaNet are now also supported by 2weeks game studio.

PvP still has some activity through player organised events and mAT, however all modes can often see a large amount of botting impacting general gameplay. You can find more on recent PvP threads using Flair:PvP in the search to find posts.

Purchasing Help:

As of 3rd December 2025 Guild Wars is now branded Guild Wars Reforged. This re-release version of the game is available in the GW Store and Steam.

This change has removed the Anniversary Masterpiece Collection and all individual Campaign editions from the GW/Steam Stores. Any purchases made prior to 3rd December retain their game-keys and can be used on email/ArenaNet based accounts.

ArenaNet have had to make a purchasing guide/flow-chart due to the changes in account management: * Purchases on Steam no longer provide game-keys and instead are to be tied directly to your Steam Login/Account. This is in order to be able to link GW accounts through Steam to GW2 accounts through Steam. * Purchases in GW Store provide keys to create a new account using email/ArenaNet account.

As of 3rd Dec 2025 ArenaNet have also changed/reduced prices for all the add-ons and re-branded Eye of the North and Bonus Mission Pack as DLC. Neither DLC are included in the Reforged edition of the game. The Game of the Year upgrade and Bonus Weapons are no longer available and are also not included in the Reforged edition of the game. The Igneous Summoning Stone item is available through purchasing the Eye of the North DLC.

  • Guild Wars Reforged includes Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall. Eye of the North DLC has to be purchased separately.
  • Guild Wars Reforged does NOT include the GOTY content and it is no longer available in the GW Store.
  • Account upgrades such as Xunlai Storage Panes, Mercenaries, Costumes are currently only available through the GW store.

Common Technical Support Questions

  • Mac (Apple Silicon) users: Use the subreddit search with the term "Mac" this will give lots of posts about users asking/getting help with running GW on Mac systems.
  • Graphics error with models stretching off far into the sky or ground: Update/roll-back your Graphics driver. It is likely a Windows update deployed a buggy driver version.

Guild Recruitment and Looking for Guilds

We now have a Weekly Thread on a Wednesday for Guild/Alliance Recruitment and Guild Requests. Please only use this Weekly post to advertise your Guild or seek a new Guild. You can also use the Flair search “Guild recruitment/request” to find previous recruitment posts.

Thanks all and happy adventures in GW!

If you have feedback/suggestions to this new introduction post please reply below. If you’d like to get in contact with the Moderators please use the ModMail.

This content is subject to change and some may get moved into the subreddit Wiki as things develop.

Melandru’s Accord GWAMM + Obby Armor

Hit GWAMM on my Melandru’s Accord Ranger today and planned it out so I could get Obby Armor on the same day!

Started out with Dhuum’s Covenant and made it through the Guardian and Survivor title tracks before eventually losing it. :( I was devastated, but kept the character going as Melandru’s Accord and loved how freeing it was to no longer have to worry about dying. I could finally start focusing on dungeons, speed clears, and other more difficult content I was too afraid to touch prior.

I’ve had most of my luck farming items from SoO and Tunnels. Haven’t been as lucky with the others yet. Some notable drops along the way:

Eternal Blade
Eternal Flatbow
2 Bone Dragon Staffs
Glacial Blades

Overall, this has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had playing GW1. Grinding everything out and having to work for absolutely everything made the game feel fresh again. Even the smallest drops felt worthwhile, which is something I hadn’t experienced in GW in a long time.

Don’t think I’ll ever be fully “done” with this character, but it definitely feels like a moment of completion forsure.

MADC Paragon - 31 Titles GWAMM - Non-Reforged

Post image
62 Upvotes

This is the most satisfying PvE accomplishment I've done. I highly recommend anyone going on the MADC journey to stick to completing GWAMM with your own sweat and blood or with any other MADC at the same point as you. The journey really made this something special. Never really cared for the Destroyer Spear, but, loved that I was able to just play the game and craft it myself.

Big shout out to the Ironman community for getting enough interest for devs to implement MADC. Props to the MADC GWAMM Paragon from yesterday with all the high farmed gear. I don't know if I have the patience to farm chaos gloves/fow armor, but that would certainly be my next goal if I continue.

I was adamant about completing this in an old school setting. Looking forward to finally exploring Reforged content.

How did I get 31 max titles? I have no idea. I assume a bug of some sort.

200+ Hours of Melandru's Accord / Dhuum's Convenant - My tips

This might be the wrong time to post this, with everyone getting GWAMM on their MelDhuum characters, but here's my take.

I'm still miles away, but I've learned a lot. In my experience, these are the best ways to go:

1. Campaign Choice

  • Prophecies: pre-searing is welcoming and busy, the new dungeon is great for leveling and you can get Legendary Defender of Ascalon on the way. This is where I started.
  • Nightfall: This is the easiest start. Heroes right away, and they keep you alive.
  • Factions: only if you really want a Ritualist or Assassin. Spirit Rift and Lightning Orb can take half your health in a second. I lost a Ritualist there early on.

2. Profession

I usually work from this idea: put something between you and the damage (minions, spirits or a pet) and be effective from range.

  • Best picks imo: Necromancer, Ritualist, Ranger, Paragon
  • Viable: Mesmer (needs skill to pull off), Warrior (has to be up front)
  • Lots of survivability, but slower or riskier: Monk, Dervish
  • Wouldn't recommend: Assassin and Elementalist

3. Habits that keep you alive

  • Be patient. Saving a minute can cost you hours if you die.
  • Pull single enemies with a longbow.
  • Take Ranger as your secondary early: even with 0 Beast Mastery, a pet is an extra body. Use "attack my target" so it goes in first.
  • Flag a Warrior hero in first, let him take aggro, then join.
  • Get an ID Kit and an Expert Salvage Kit ASAP. Salvaging is your only source of materials.
  • There's no bank on Melandru's Accord, so manage your inventory hard. Keep what your armor needs (Tanned Hide Squares for my Necro), sell what it doesn't and sell easy-to-replace mats like Glittering Dust or Bones when space is tight.

4. Hero unlock order

  • Get Devona in pre-searing then Ghost of Althea shortly after in post-searing.
  • Do the first Eye of the North chapter as soon as you're level 10. Vekk and Ogden are level 20 from the start. I did it after the Sunspears quest in Kryta and I really regret that. That quest is rough with henchmen.
  • "All for One and One for Justice" at the Lion's Arch docks gives you Olias, who comes with Animate Bone Minions. That means bodies between you and the enemy, even if you're not a Necro.
  • Put healers on Avoid Combat, damage heroes on Fight, and your tank on Guard or Fight.

5. Hard mode

Pick up the daily Zaishen Mission quest at Embark Beach and join the groups doing it. Tell them you're on Dhuum's Covenant and can't die. Out of roughly 30 missions, only 2 or 3 people didn't want to play with me. Just leave and find another group. Players are much better than heroes, and they often pop cons for the whole party.

6. Eye of the North PvE skills

  • "You Move Like a Dwarf!"
  • Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support
  • "Finish Him!"

Combined with Assassin's Promise, you can keep a target shut down almost permanently.

7. Rubies and Sapphires without a material trader

A tip from someone in an Ironman Discord: run Bloodstone Caves with Light of Deldrimor. Hidden treasures on level 3 and beyond have a much better chance at rare mats. Normal Mode is fine, since Hard Mode doesn't improve the drops, and you get Dwarven rep along the way. Be ready to grind it a few times, though.

So far I have Survivor, Legendary Defender of Ascalon and Guardian of Elona maxed.

So, still a long way to go. But I'm close to maxing about 3-4 titles now!

Returning player

I played a ton back in the day but never quite got to the place to be able to do much more than basic title hunting. After returning to reforged, I have more time to be able to try farming but have no clue where to start.

What are the best/most time efficient farms? I have access to every profession. Not looking for crazy money, just something I can do on the side to help outfit my characters and heroes and have money to help friends who are just picking up the game.

Is discordway better than mesmerway for assassin's promise necro nuker?

Hello, I'm a new player trying to figure out how to build my team.

I know the meta is mesmerway but I heard you shouldn't call out target and just let the mesmers do what they want for best result.

Is discordway what people use if they want to play an AP nuker?

What does your early Melandrus Accord build look like?

Tell me about your early builds for playing MA (player and/or hero) as well as the campaign you started in.

Have you found any skills that aren't meta, but are better than you thought?

I started in Factions on a Ritualist. As soon as I got to Kaineng City I went to EotN to unlock heroes. I ended up running a Mo/E smother with Double Dragon that worked way better than expected!

Recovered account / stolen goods

Just curious how many people came back to the game after a long hiatus to find they were missing many of their favorite items.

It had been SO long since I had played.. l was so focused on all the nostalgia that I realized my favorite items were gone. Took a day of reintroducing myself to catalog.

R12 chaos axe, r11 voltaic spear, my chaos gloves were gone, and a r13 obby edge 😭

I also believe I had a frog wand and some skeleton staff

Took me a whole day to realize all my loot was gone 😂

Is the Forsaken Tunnels farming method viable for a Warrior / Ranger combo?

As per the title. I have been occasionally playing through Pre Searing in order to get the LDoA title, no rushing and taking it slowly. Although I'm not stressing over doing so in record time, I wanted to avoid the Farmer Hamnet's method due to it taking way longer to reach level twenty.

The main problem I'm facing (while doing the whole "taunt the charr and bug them close to the entrance") is that I don't have enough damage to kill anyone as long as there is a Martyr in the pack, even after dumping all points in Marksmanship, using the preparations for bonus damage and them using Frenzy (oh, and I have a decent enough longbow with nice damage modifiers). When I tried doing this method in the past with an Elementalist, it was way easier, which is to be expected.

My question is if there is really no way to do this method with this particular combination or if I'm messing something up? If there's no way to reach twenty through this strategy, is there another option as long as there is no Farmer Hamnet, or am I pretty much forced to do it?

Thanks!

Ok you must answer honestly in the comments. How many times have you clicked on the storage crate with your Melandru characters? Because I've only done it 1000 times by now 😅

Challenge complete - on to new adventures!

Post image
238 Upvotes

After 305 hours and 27 Million XP, I can finally retire my MADC Paragon (for now...). The Halloween event gave enough ToT bags to max the consumables titles and to finally achieve the ultimate MADC goal: GWAMM. GZ to my fellow Melandru and MADC skele-farmers in ToA who were also able to get GWAMM this week!

A couple of personal challenges that were completed along the way:

  • Fow and Vaabian Armor + Chaos Gloves
  • Blindfold
  • Some nice drops: Voltaic spear, Obsidian Edge, froggy
  • All Heroes
  • Almost all minipet quests (missing UW HM), HM titan quests, and Beyond content
  • Black Moa chick
  • All Skills

Not sure what to do next, now that the journey is over... maybe make another MADC character eventually. If I decide to continue this character at some point, it would be nice to farm some high-end chests for a rare skin or minipet, fill the HoM as much as possible, grind for an envoy weapon, or do all quests.

It's been a lot of fun playing these new game modes. If ever the developers consider adjusting the game modes further, I think it would be great to somehow include an option to only play with other players of the same game mode (or even solo?), create a character-version of account-wide titles (wisdom, treasure, lucky, etc.), or an "vanilla" experience without PvE titles and consumables.

Big thanks to my guild (NNG), ally, the embark crew, and others that I got to play with!

Assassin dagger spam daggers.

I am looking to upgrade my daggers and was wondering what was better for general WoTA dagger spam, Of the Necro or Of the Ranger? Also, is weakness the only -attributes I should factor into my new dagger purchase? I know the build runs 16 Dagger Mastery, but the difference in price of Q13 and Q9 Glacial Blades is rather steep. Thanks in advance.

This isn't a post asking for help but a post shedding light on the activities zendesk employees are doing behind the scenes.

New/returning player My inventory keeps filling up and it's very frustrating

I liked this game the first day that I played it, but today I played and got so frustrated I had to stop because I have no inventory space. There's so many quests and they give you items to take to other people and then they reward you with more items. I've all these items like skeletal limbs, spider legs, lodestones, etc. that I was going to sell, but I found out you can give them to this guy called Nick and he'll rewarrd you, but I just missed Skeletal Limbs, which was yesterday so, now I have to wait again until god knows when to be able to turn in these limbs. Spider Legs was also a day before that. There isn't even any storage in pre-searing ascalon, so no help there. Oh, and the wiki just has to be down right now too so, I'm having a hard time looking stuff up to understand stuff about the game and help out. It went down the day I started playing last week. Very bad timing.
