Image post are temporarily disabled

Hey everyone!! We temporarily disabled image posts because we noticed an increase in low-effort image only posts and memes in the community.

We really appreciate how active everyone has been but we also want to encourage more meaningful discussions, study tips, study related questions and other contents that can actually help everyone in this community. For now, we’re disabling image posts to help shift the focus back toward those kinds of discussions

This is not a permanent decision. We’ll keep this change for now and discuss it further over next week. After that, we’ll review the community’s feedback and decide whether image posts should be brought back or if any changes are needed.

Thanks for understanding! Feel free to send us a modmail if you have any suggestions on how we can improve the sub. Your feedback is always welcome.

Accountability Daily Accountability Thread - June 17, 2025

Hi everyone! This is the Accountability Thread where people can list what they need or want to accomplish today and have everyone else help keep you accountable to do them. So, in general, a post will look like this:

Things I have to get done today:

1: Post Accountability Thread

If I had more to do that I had not completed I would list them and update this when these things were complete.

Also, if I saw someone doing something that I happen to be well-educated or have some sort of expertise in I can offer support or help on the topic/task.

The thread is a versatile one, use it in a way that helps you and others stay on task!

Happy studying!

Question How is your studying performance on 6 hours of sleep and less?

Apart from what study says:
How well you think you do during and after study on 6 hours of sleep or less.

- Are you able to recall what you have studied the next day?
- Are you able to study productivly on 6 hours of sleep and less?
- For those who take:caffeine: Do you think it helps you with memory retention/productivity?

(Please answer based on your own experience rather than what study says)

Resources I built a planner because Canvas and Classroom don't cover everything. What would you want in one?

I kept losing track of things because Canvas and Google Classroom each only show part of my workload, and the planner apps I tried were either ugly or missing something.

So I built one that holds assignments, exams, reminders, a weekly class schedule and notes in one place: https://planiverse.org

I'm curious how people here actually keep track of deadlines. What's the one feature a planner needs for you to keep using it?

Question For those of you in engineering what is your study routine like what methods have you found most effective?

• Upvotes

How many hours do you study, how is that broken down between subjects,

What study methods have you found to be the most effective for each subject

And how often do you practice active recall and reread your notes?

Accountability I stopped re-reading my lecture slides and started listening to them instead. It accidentally fixed how I study

Re-reading slides never worked for me. My eyes go through the words and nothing goes in.

So I made myself a little page that reads my course PDFs out loud. The free apps I tried wanted an account or cut me off after a few minutes, so I just built my own.

A few things surprised me:

- I notice way faster when I don't understand something. When I read, I just skip over it. When I hear it, it's obvious.

- Dead time became review time. I can listen while doing something else.

- Skipping the useless parts matters. I mark the title slides and references so it doesn't read them.

It doesn't replace active recall. I listen first, then do practice questions.

Anyone else study by listening? Does it actually stick for you, or am I fooling myself?

Resources What Resources do you use for history class studying?

What are some tips /resources you have that helped you with history classes ? I’m in world civilizations 2 and they use the mcgraw hill for textbooks and it’s dog shit . I can never easily find anything to read more about something I’m writing about but I don’t want to rely too heavily on just an internet search.
I love history but I’m just struggling to make connections with all the information being thrown at me with little context, my prof gives us reading power points instead of only reading from the textbook itself and the textbook readings are also lacking in some context that would be helpful. Thanks !

Question What's the minimum amount of sleep I can live on for a week?

I am having 23 exams in 30 days, and I have 6 left. They're back to back from this Wednesday to next Tuesday, with the only break on Sunday. They're 2.5 hour long finals, and from 3 PM to 5:30 PM. I feel massively underprepared. How much sleep can I live on? I'm a third year undergrad majoring in Physics and minoring in Maths (11 courses total, finals of 6 remaining).

Question I tried almost everything and I can't focus

I tried like so many things to help me in studying- like putting devices in an another room, turning on study audio pomodoro method, 8d audio, healthy brain foods and etc. and I cannot focus on any task except for some times where I have a boost and finish things quick. And i dont think its ADHD because so many times when i am rushing to finish things like 30 minutes be4 the deadline i can not focus and my work is usually barely touched/finished. Why do I procrastinate too much?!?! and usually there are distractions everywhere 😭( btw im a G6 help me 🥀)

Question How to study for physiology exam that is in 9 days?

Hello, I usually study the night before, but I really need to do good on my next exam so I want to study before.

All of the content that will be on the exam has been covered. I have access to all the slides, the lectures and transcripts, and the textbook. I also took my own notes.

I was planning on making anki flash cards while going over the lecture videos and transcript, and study that every day. But anything else I should do? maybe watch youtube videos breaking down things I dont fully understand?

Question How do I actually keep myself motivated when Ive never had to even really study before?

Please dont take this as me being all high and mighty and oh wow look at me I never had to study, but it is true. I live in ireland and am in 6th year, where at the end you take big exams (the leaving cert) which basically decide if you get into a course or not.

So these exams are a ways away yet, in june, but there is soo much material it is recommended to have already started studying by now. but in every test I have ever had, tbh I have never had to try that hard and i get a really good score, so i have never had to get a proper long plan together and I am afraid that even if I do - a part of me will think its pointless as I could get the results without putting in much work.

I really, really dont want to fall into this trap so I was wondering if anyone had any advice, thanks!

Question What makes people ace their exams that I’m missing?

During my bachelor’s, I struggled to do well in what I was studying. Some classmates seemed to have found their method and got good grades, while I kept studying without much progress. I’d be curious how it went for you! Last time you got stuck on something you were studying, what did you do? and if your way of studying ever changed, what triggered it?

Question How to study from textbooks

I need to figure out how to properly study from textbooks. I’ve seen a lot of videos talking about textbooks, and it seems like everyone has a different answer.

I find that I enjoy reading and I generally remember a lot of what I read. I took a high school AP history class where I read and took notes on the entire textbooks and read through each chapter. I aced the class and did very well, but then I just honestly used AI for everything else during my time in HS. I did well when I studied the textbook, but I am not faced with multiple classes and I’m not really sure how to go about studying on my own.

I’m taking stem classes next semester, and methods like the SQR3 seem too time consuming. Other people say to read the intro, conclusion, headings, and then read all the way through and take notes. Others say to just skim the book, or read the first and last sentence of every paragraph. I do not know lmao. But my goal is this: do extremely well on the test, but also really learn the material. I just enjoy learning, and would feel like I’m sorta cheating or missing out on valuable information otherwise? I feel a bit paralyzed because I just don’t know which method is “right” or “better.” Anki is cool, but am I supposed to create flashcards for ALL my classes? I think I could do this for 1-2 classes, but NO WAY I could the full method for classes like chem, bio, ochem, biochem, physics, calc, etc. like maybe one at a time. But I need to do really well in these classes too, and just learn this shit.

My goals: do really well on tests, but also REALLY learn this material.

Giving Advice Studying anatomy with Adhd

Hello!!

Im a paramedic student and while im doing good in all my other classes Anatomy & Physiology is my worse class. I need a 60% to pass and i keep getting 58% which is so close but so far 😭.

I haven’t really studied before because i never really needed to throughout my law degree but medical stuff is a whole different ball game.

I haven’t ADHD and i honestly find it hard to study and keep things like in my brain. Anyone here with ADHD have a good way to study or a good way to study Anatomy is general?

Question How do they always manage to pass?

I need help, I'm failing all my classes and I don't know what to do. I live two hours away from my school, and the commute there and back makes me constantly tired. Even though I always study, it ends up being a failure like this one. Since this isn't my home country, they put me 4 grades back because of the language. Even so, I feel like this is impossible. I don't know if anyone has any advice for me. I don't want to quit school, but I think this is overwhelming me

Question Struggling with Biology 1620. Need studying tips!

I am in a biology course right now which has been extremely difficult for me. Normally I am a pretty good test taker, which led me to under-prepare for the first exam. I got 63% on it. So I (tried to) over prepare for the next exam. I spent hours making flash cards out of the professor’s slideshows and reviewed them once a day leading up to the test. I listened to the lecture recordings twice over each. And still, when I took the test, I got 58%.

I’m spending even more time studying this time around, and have been making Kahoots for myself. I’m terrified that I’ll get an awful score again and tank my GPA, not to mention the possibility of failing the class. I’d really like to get over 80% on the next test, minimum, but it’s covering even more information than the previous two.

Any advice? What can I do to learn a large amount of very specific information about plants and mushrooms?

I have about two weeks before the next test.

Question How do you study over time (no cramming)?

So I got a low B on my exam today—I’m in humanities so this is bad. All because I crammed the night before, I realized after getting that grade that I need to stop cramming the night before a test, but the thing is I don’t know how to study over time. Like do I study for 10 min a day per subject, do I study 30 min? If so how do I even study? Do I read and reread notes again? Do I annotate my notes everyday? Do I read notes after class everyday? Do I study every single day or 3-5 times a week? Do I designate a certain timeframe to study everyday? What if I forget the things I’ve studied overtime? How do I even know what subject to study each day if the material is so dense? How do I even study cause all I know how to do is cram the night before the exam.

Question 12th PCM student 11th wasted, only prepared for boards level What should I do?

Hi everyone, I'm in 12th (PCM, CBSE). I wasted my 11th on JEE prep nd didn't studied 11th , then focused on boards at the start of 12th. Honestly, I've only prepared for boards. I've studied only a few 11th topics, and those too at basic NCERT level and current completing my 12th syllabus pcm with boards lvl prep with cbse pyq..I've studying from board's Batch.

I don't know which engineering entrance exams I should give (JEE Main, BITSAT, VITEEE, COMEDK, MET, state CET), and I'm confused about how to prepare from here and what to do??

Given my situation, what should I do? Which exams are realistic for me, and how should I plan or study ? Any advice from seniors or people who've been in the same spot would really help. Thank you!

Question Why are people creating study groups when there are many places online to find one? Why do people even like study groups?

This also applies for people searching for an accountability pal.

I always see posts about people creating study groups, why is everyone creating one when there are soo many existing ones? Are the existing ones bad? Are the websites or apps not good?

Even searching for study groups is hard because there is just too many to choose from.

I understand body doubling, but it gets quite overwhelming when there is so many to choose from. Why not go to one place to find your ideal one, wouldn’t that be more convenient? Also with the many apps and websites, surely there are so many additional features that make the study groups fun and interactive, I must be missing something.

Or does everyone just have FOMO?
What do you guys like about study groups soo much to create/join soo many? Arnt there enough groups, apps and websites to choose from?

I was just wondering because I’ve been in an in person one before but not too sure about an online one.
