Many of you likely noticed that user-assigned flairs have been disabled in this subreddit. This action has been undone, and users are once more able to assign their own flairs - I honestly do not know why they were disabled or who did it.
In attempt to rectify this mistake, I am posting our first flair request thread in over 5 years! Time sure does fly.
In this thread, by commenting your birth-year, you will be automatically flaired -- it's that simple.
Approved birth-years for this thread include 1995-2012.
If there are any issues with your flair, please reach out to the moderators via modmail.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU COMMENT YOUR BIRTH-YEAR ONLY. COMMENTS INCLUDING ANY OTHER CONTENT WILL BE REMOVED.

Mod Post Just a reminder, gender war posts are banned.
It’s been over a year since we banned gender war posts, and after monitoring the community, we’ve decided to keep the ban in place, as these discussions continue to be just as toxic as they were a year ago.
For clarity, “gender war” content includes discussions such as male loneliness, Gen Z men approaching Gen Z women, incels, femcels, alpha males, Andrew Tate, red pill, black pill, purple pill content, men’s height discourse, age-gap dating, and broader “looks-based” or hierarchy discussions about dating, looks maxing or ranking people by attractiveness or dating value.
This also includes broader dating ideology content that frames relationships in an adversarial, or fatalistic way.
For example: men vs women narratives, claims that one gender is universally responsible for dating issues, or that dating is inherently doomed for a specific group. Generalizations that treat either gender as a monolith are not allowed.
Memes about these topics, posts complaining about dating, and rage-bait content taken from other platforms such as screenshots from TikTok or Twitter that exist primarily to provoke gender-based arguments.
This is not a dating-focused subreddit. If you want to vent or discuss Gen Z dating issues more broadly, please use communities such as [r/dating_advice](r/dating_advice) or [r/dating](r/dating).
That said, posts about dating are still allowed as long as they are made in good faith. If comment sections become hostile or devolve into rule-breaking behavior, posts may be locked or removed at moderator discretion.
Please respect and follow this rule moving forward.

Discussion What are y’all’s opinions on the beef between French and Japan on Twitter?
Apparently, all of this started Simply because some French protesters were cosplaying as their favorite anime characters.
Also, some of them were black and brown, so the Japanese Twitter didn’t like that and proceeded to call them racial slurs.
Then Twitter French saw that and went hard on them especially with the slander memes.
Honestly, what do y’all think of this?

Discussion ~50% of adults under 30 lived or lives with parents in the U.S. (2025 data)
This might be slightly old news but when I read this directly from the Federal Reserves annual report I was shocked….. what do you mean the greatest country on earth has 50% of its young population living at home? Sure some choose to that or have valid reasons to be at home, but I would argue a large majority probably want the “American dream” of owning a home or even a town home. Are the young people just doomed to live with parents during/after college forever?
Not to mention the significant impacts this has on a young persons mental, confidence, emotional health, dating ability, etc….. the trend is still moving upwards and I can’t imagine this ends well

Advice How can I find happiness in life without dating or relationships?
I'm a 24-year-old guy, and I've pretty much come to terms with the fact that I'm too short (5'8 in Germany) and unattractive to find a girlfriend or lose my virginity. Being a virgin at my age already feels like another reason why women wouldn't be interested in me.
Instead of constantly hoping that things will change, I want to focus on finding happiness and fulfillment outside of romantic relationships and sex.
For those who have accepted being single long-term, what makes your life worth living? What goals, hobbies, or experiences give you a sense of purpose and happiness without needing a partner?

Rant Does anyone else feel like we're being told to prepare for a future that nobody can actually guarantee anymore?
I'm 25, and lately I've been questioning the entire education-to-employment pipeline.
We're told to study hard, get a degree, build a career, earn money, become independent and eventually settle down. That's supposed to be the formula for a decent life. But how much of that formula actually holds up anymore?
I spent around two years studying B.Tech before leaving, and I've spent the last four years pursuing humanities. Having experienced both technical education and the humanities, I've realised that getting a degree and actually being prepared for the world of work are two very different things.
The job market is becoming increasingly competitive, entry-level opportunities can be difficult to find, and AI is changing the way people work. Meanwhile, the cost of living keeps putting pressure on people to earn more just to maintain a reasonable standard of living.
And we're still expected to make career-defining decisions when we're barely adults. Choose the right degree at 18, somehow know what you're good at, acquire the right skills, get relevant experience without anyone wanting to hire you without experience, and become financially independent as soon as possible.
What happens if you don't figure it out early? What happens if your degree doesn't lead where you expected, your interests change, or you simply don't want to spend your entire life competing for jobs?
I'm not saying previous generations had it easy, or that everyone today is doomed. I just think there's a growing disconnect between what we're told education and employment will provide and what people actually experience.
The conventional path seems to assume that if you follow all the steps, you'll eventually be rewarded. But there's no guarantee that the reward will be a stable job, financial security or even work that you find tolerable.
And personally, I'm increasingly questioning whether I even want the life we're all supposed to be working towards. I want financial independence, but I don't particularly want my entire identity to revolve around a job, my salary, consumerism or social status.
Are other people in Gen Z feeling this disconnect, or am I overthinking it?
How are you approaching education, work and adulthood when the supposedly safe route doesn't feel particularly safe anymore?
Co-written with the assistance of an LLM.

Political Voting Matters!!
Serbia and Brazil just proved that!
If our vote didn’t matter, why would politicians spend so much money trying to convince us it didn’t?
Vote!

Discussion Did anyone play Webkinz growing up?
I remember I used to get so excited to go to Five Below and buy a Webkinz plush for a new code. That, and the hair salon world was one of my favorite places since I liked being the receptionist.

Discussion Is it me or most Gen Z women actually prefer to date older than stick to Gen Z men?
I find that most of my friends, (including myself) date older guys and prefer to date older guys? Gen Z women seem to be very disconnected from Gen Z men. I’m not sure if this is something I’m only seeing in my friend group or is far more common everywhere?

Discussion We might have a lot in common with Japanese GenX
Japanese GenX grew up during the economic bubble between 1980 and 1990. In 1988, japans GDP grew 6.7%. Back then, they knew a world where:
A) it’s super easy to get a job. Companies would come to universities in limousines and beg you to join them. They offer you “lifetime employment” - which meant you couldn’t get fired very easily. You practically just needed to have a degree and know how to breathe
B) It is shameful to work “low status jobs” like fast food or gig work. People who do that were looked down upon for not trying better, because they assume the opportunities are everywhere.
C) Japan was assumed to be a fundamentally superior culture to the west, and they were gonna surpass the US soon as the world’s top economy
Then boom - the bubble burst, right as GenX was graduating from university. All the companies were so levered up that they now have employees they can’t fire, debt that will not be paid off until they expire in 35 years (round about now actually) and no revenue. The economy is frozen. Fuckin nobody is hiring.
Japanese GenX were forced to pick up the gig jobs that they were taught were looked down upon en Masse, many who thought they had higher potential couldn’t bear the shame and retreated into their bedrooms, becoming what is now known as “Hikikomori”. Many are today in their 50-60s, still stuck in that bedroom, living off of their elderly parents’ pensions.
Welcome to the future mfs

Discussion Why do people say Gen Zers are soft because they never experienced struggle when older generations put y'all in conditions to where you don't have to struggle as much a previous generations?
Like are people that stupid? Why are we romanticizing struggle and want people to be "hard" all the time, yet still want younger folks to have better lives to where they don't have to struggle? You can't have it both ways
Either make younger folks have the same trauma as you so they can finally be "hard" in your eyes. Or Give them a better life so they don't have to struggle as much
You can't give them one and then get mad that the other doesn't exist. It's just human nature
And the worst part is y'all Gen Zers are gonna eventually do it to Gen Alpha, even though you guys don't like it when it happens to you. I swear the cycle of humanity is a joke

Discussion Opinion on parents destroying their children's electronics?
What is your honest opinion on Parents destroying their children's electronics as punishment?
I'm not a parent myself, but I think that kind of thing is abusive.
Money was paid for it.
And it teaches them nothing but bad lessons.
I know most of those videos of Parents destroying their kids' electronics are faked for views, but even then, I think that's harmful. Money Is still wasted regardless of whether it's real or not.

Advice Are you allowed to approach women in public?
Tried every possible bit of dating advice for meeting people. I have tried apps, volunteering, group sports, and speed dating. I enjoy volunteering and sports even if I haven’t met anyone to date and have made male and female friends through those and continue to do them regardless of their “value in dating”. I am thinking of approaching women I find cute in public but keep getting conflicting advice so I’m lost on what to do. Many on reddit say to NEVER approach women as it is weird and creepy but idk how else to meet people. Is there a way to respectfully approach someone I like when I am out running or at the coffee shop? What could I say to them?

Political Voted… Feeling Guilty
Hello, I’ve never posted here before, but I just wanted to get something off my chest.
I am an American. I’ve lived in MD for the past year and a half but am registered to vote in MD NC and SC. I voted in MD this week but I feel guilty. I feel like I should have done a mail-in ballot for SC instead. I’ve moved around a lot and have voted in SC and NC but I feel like I should have voted for SC. Even though I don’t live there anymore my parents and brother live there. I feel stupid for feeling guilty about this but at the same time it’s eating at me. I’m afraid I “wasted” my vote on a blue state when I could have used it for a red state. I got very busy and wasn’t able to do a mail-in ballot. I don’t consider myself a South Carolinian since I moved there from NJ as a teenager but I’m anxious that my not voting in SC could affect the outcome.
What do I do?

Meme Bro we are NOT going to glaze your ass while applying for jobs.
AND it's always for entry level work as well, like retailing, fast food, and bussing, like bruh, what are we supposed to say; "So I can contribute to this community and give others an opportunity to rise?"
What we actually want to say is "So I can get experience to get a better job" and "So I can earn money", but we know employers don't like being straight to the point or "desanitized" when asking these types of personal questions.

Discussion Do you also believe that aliens used to deliver pizzas to ghosts in ancient Egypt?
Okay, so today, while having a pizza party with my friends, I stumbled upon a mind-boggling possibility.
After taking their first bites, one of my friends said, “Pizzas are so damn marvellous that they touch my soul whenever I eat them,” while the other replied, “Yeah, sometimes they just feel out of this world.”
Their statements sent my mind racing,I figured out pizzas could be evidence of a connection between the human soul and the mysteries of the universe.
The pyramids have long inspired theories about extraterrestrial encounters/alien visitations and legends like supernatural wardens/mummy’s curse
According to archaeologists, ancient Egyptians believed that after death, the soul leaves the physical body and return to it for resting, hence they are mummified. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t want snacks while resting? And since humans couldn’t provide them, perhaps they contacted aliens to deliver some snacks instead.
Interestingly, Italy, the birthplace of pizza, is also home to the mysterious Val Camonica rock engravings, some of which are believed to resemble ancient astronauts, i.e., aliens.
This raises the possibility that aliens once travelled to Italy to prepare the pizzas, or at least collect the ingredients, before delivering them to the souls resting inside Egyptian pyramids.
This would also mean that pizzas were an alien invention to satisfy human souls that humanity eventually learned to prepare.
Perhaps every slice carries a secret history that the universe has yet to reveal. What do you think?

Rant Friends...
The friends I have in this new college are the exact definition of 'boring' and 'basic'
None can hold a convo in English, none of them draws, none of them are interested in video games, its like they're a bunch of NPC's and you'd think maybe they'd have a certain dressing style to them but hell nah, they dont know what street wear is, what goth is, what alt is, its like talking to a brick wall
Im so done with these people, I just want people whom I can talk to about my preferences, share common stuff together and chill! These folks are driving me crazy oh my god!
