Announcement Approved Vendor applications are open until October 30th 23:59 PT.

To be an approved vendor, please review the following rules to follow and how to apply.

These rules were made based on community input, and are meant to keep the subreddit as a fun place to browse without it seeming like a shop storefront.

RULES

  1. Only 1 sales post every 3 days.
  2. Can only be for singles or pairs.
  3. Stone(s) must be identified in the title.
  4. Post titles, videos, etc should not be overly commercial/salesy (minimal logos, no salesperson language, etc)
  5. Must include payment and return policies somewhere (on the post caption or a reply)
  6. All other posts must be for unavailable/not for sale stones (and these posts need to be marked as such).

HOW TO APPLY

Vendors must show they are an actual business, can take good photos/videos, and have an established track record selling gems to satisfied customers.

Send a message using reddit MODMAIL with the following information:

  1. Business name (include address & contact info if you have a physical location)
  2. How you accept payment (you MUST accept a form of payment that leaves the buyer the opportunity to pursue a dispute)
  3. Your return policy (you MUST have a return policy)
  4. Website or social media presence that shows the quality of photos/videos that you post.
  5. Where we can best evaluate your business's track record of sales. This can include website reviews, social media followers, and/or a physical location.

If you are a new business with only a handful of reviews/followers, regrettably that will likely not be enough of an established presence to be approved.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. The moderators will review your application, and will reply to your message with questions or whether you have been approved.
  2. In cases where you link an outside website or social media account, you may be messaged to verify that you’re the person/business applying.
  3. We will post an announcement when we have finished reviewing all applications. Please do NOT message the moderators about the status of your application until after this announcement.

If you have any questions, feel welcome to reply to this post or send them via MODMAIL.

My first natural gemstone! Its a pink sapphire. 1.68ct. Idk much about this stuff and am learning as I go. I think I did a pretty good job at choosing a stone. Just thought I'd share it here for all the gemstone lovers. I love it 🥰

Eye candy Synthetic Emerald ring. It doesn’t require two $500 oilings per year, didn’t cost 4.5 million, and isn’t a structural liability. Of all Manmade gems, Emerald is perhaps the most practical to own

Eye candy A few angles of this 13.55 ct faceted rainbow moonstone

Wanted to share this one because of how differently it photographs with a slight change in angle. Some shots catch strong purple and pink, while others show more turquoise and pale blue.

It’s appraisal states this specimen is:

A Madagascar rainbow moonstone with a white body colour, rainbow adularescence, eye-clean clarity, and a very good cut. Its approximate weight is 13.55 ct, measuring 18.85 × 12.40 × 7.80 mm.

I like how the elongated cushion shape frames the shifting colours. Included several angles so you can see the differences across the stone. Absolutely wonderful piece of this ever expansive planet.

Anyone else here collect faceted moonstones? If you do, what do you think this would be worth?

Thanks, everyone!

Question Is it worth sending my sapphire to a Chinese Vendor for setting?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi all,
Has anyone got experience sending loose gems to Chinese jewellers? I have had a great experience with Tianyu jewellers, but this stone is currently in Thailand and I was wondering if it’s risky sending it from Thailand to China. I only bought the sapphire for 200usd so it’s not particularly expensive.

I got my alexandrite back from gia. Trying to figure out if I should keep it or sell. What would be a realistic value if I were to sell it now vs keeping it for longer

Question What causes this dark 'X'?

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Can someone please educate me and explain me what the dark lines are that cross each other to form an X? They stay in exactly the same place, remain the same colour, do not change in brightness and do not disappear/reappear. They do, however, become brownish reddish orange near the top of the cabochon. Are these mineral inclusions? Internal fractures? Something else?
