I'm planning to start a YouTube/TikTok channel, mainly focusing on informational videos. But that's not really the point of this post.

I'm curious about how you all integrate AI into your video editing workflows to handle the heavy lifting. What AI tools do you use, and how much of your editing process have you managed to automate?

I'm still pretty new to Final Cut Pro. The last time I used it was for a student project almost 10 years ago! So I'd like to take this opportunity to pick up on my video editing skills and learn how people use FCP these days, especially with all the AI tools now available.

I'd love to hear about your workflows, favorite tools, and any tips you might have for someone getting back into FCP!

I edit in Final Cut on a M4 MacBook Pro, mainly for Instagram, YouTube and other social platforms. I recently got an ASUS ProArt PA32UCDM, and even with it fully calibrated for Rec. 709, what I’m seeing on the monitor doesn’t really match how my videos look on my iPhone.

When I switch the monitor to its P3 preset, it looks much closer to my phone. I’m talking about the monitor setting here, but it’s made me wonder whether I should be editing and monitoring in P3 instead. Does anyone use P3 for this kind of work?

Pretty much everything I’ve read says to use Rec. 709. I’m trying to understand why that’s the right choice when it looks different on the device I’m checking the finished videos on. Obviously everyone’s screen is different, but most of my content is being watched on phones rather than TVs.

What monitor preset, macOS colour profile and Final Cut project settings are you using? Am I missing something in the colour-management setup rather than needing to change colour spaces?

A little help with footage

For testing and new website examples, I'm looking for original 720p or 1080p footage that you'd be happy for me to use in public before-and-after comparisons on the website and in promotional material.

Stock footage hasn't been a great fit. Most of it is already very clean or over-sharpened, and the 720p downloads are usually downsampled from higher resolutions. I'd like to work with the actual limitations of the original recording.

What would be useful?

• Nicely composed shots with fine detail or movement.
• Natural low-light noise, especially with some texture worth preserving.
• Older travel clips, wildlife, people, or everyday scenes. Clean footage is welcome too.

5–20 seconds is enough. Original camera files before processing in post would be ideal, rather than YouTube downloads or re-encoded previews.

It might be a basic question but I can't find many simple things regarding how Apple Motion and FCP work together without spending hours online.
I want to know what ways do we have to change the duration of a 'Build In' and 'Build Out' animation in FCP, irrespective of the total length of the title. For example, the 'Overshoot' behavior in the screenshot below. Similarly, how can we do it for the simple keyframe animations?
I have these Build In and Build Out markers but they only provide checkboxes to turn them ON/OFF.

I have this beautiful shot taken with my iPhone and using Final Cut Camera but because I have the slighly older titanium iPhone Pro, it suffers easily from overheating which sometimes causes bad frame drops as you can see here.

This video clip export actually has "machine learning" used for the "rate conform". I have tried using optical flow and it also still creates a pretty jump result.

Is there some other FCP tool that can handle this?

I've recently started learning video editing and decided to go with Final Cut Pro.

So far, I'm really enjoying the software, especially how smooth and well-optimized it is on Mac.

However, I've noticed that the built-in library of titles, animations, transitions and effects feels a bit limited and somewhat outdated.

I'm wondering how other Final Cut Pro users deal with this. Do you mainly rely on third-party plugins and templates, or are there some great built-in features I might be missing?

I'd love to hear your recommendations for plugins, effects, titles, transitions, or any useful resources, ideally without having to spend a fortune.

Since I'm still a beginner, I'd also appreciate any general advice or tips you wish you'd known when you first started using Final Cut Pro.

One q: when would I ever use an upscaling plugin like Fidelity Fuze? I dont shoot in 8k so maybe its moot but I dont quite get it. Could you use something like that to boost 4k footage so you can do more punchins?

So, I updated to Final Cut Pro 12.4 today and I realized that rendering during playback, which I had it enabled using CommandPost for more than a year now, isn't enabled anymore.

Re enabling it on CommandPost won't fix the issue. Searched the FCP preference file with ChatGPT and it found out the string which enables rendering during playback isn't there anymore.

Is CommandPost team aware of this issue? Can we enable rendering during playback using another method? Because without it FCP is painful to use... You have to wait and even not dare to scrub in the timeline so all the rendering and even optical flow and stabilizations would complete.

Hey everyone! I recently shot a concert in 4K 60fps, and I’m trying to slow down some clips to 25% speed in Final Cut Pro using Best (Machine Learning) optical flow.
The problem is that whenever there are flashing stage lights, the footage starts flickering and glitching during slow motion. The frames seem to jump or stutter, almost as if the optical flow can’t properly analyze the rapidly changing lights.

The footage looks fine at normal speed, but the issue becomes really noticeable once I slow it down. I’ve tried using Fast (Floor), but the motion doesn’t look as smooth.

Has anyone experienced this issue with concert footage? Is there a way to fix it in post?

I know this might sound stupid just wondering how long will it take for 10 .mov’s videos 35 to 40 gb will actually take to upload to YouTube with 250 Mbps upload speeds?

I‘m new-ish to video editing. I’ve used DaVinci Resolve, but am considering shifting to FCP. My project: I have 62 seconds of silent film at 16 fps. I want to wrap a mini-documentary with talking heads around it at, say, 24 fps.

Can I glue all this together in FCP, retaining best quality for the silent film, and then host the result on YouTube?

I’m thinking that I need to set a custom frame rate of 48 fps in FCP and then import my 16 and 24 fps content, edit, and finally output everything at 48 fps for upload to YouTube.

Am I remotely on the right track?

The student bundle is gone now, so I can't purchase it, and since I'm not a student, I can't use the subscription at the student price.

So I tried looking into joining Creator Studio Family Sharing, but nobody around me uses it... and there aren't any sharing sites or anything.

My partner recently switched from DaVinci Resolve to Final Cut Pro, and she’s finding the color grading tools pretty frustrating, especially the tiny controls in the top-right corner. On a 32-inch monitor, it’s really not ideal.

I remember reading somewhere that there are plugins that can basically replace Final Cut Pro’s built-in color grading interface.

We came across CineDream, which looks pretty interesting, but the pricing is a bit ridiculous: €100 a year or €250 for a perpetual license, which doesn’t even include lifetime updates.

So I was wondering if you guys know of any good alternatives. I’m not necessarily expecting something as powerful as Resolve, but anything that’s more capable and, especially, more user-friendly than Final Cut Pro’s native tools would be a big improvement.

MotionVFX has removed the “mmessage 2” collection from its Design Studio catalog.

My assumption is that they removed it for copyright reasons, because I don’t think it’s plausible, if they integrated the various plugins into FCP, have brand logos and copied interfaces of software from other companies, What “mmessage 2” had inside (discord, gpt chat...)

I think we are really close to something new.

I’m pretty sure they’ll reveal something in the next event, with the presentation of the new Macs.

In addition, for days the plugins in Design Studio have been undergoing heavy updates (150+ resources) every day.

Found this youtube video and it claims I can use the RED installer to import NRAW files and not just RED ones. However after installing it, importing NEV files is still greyed out. Anyone using this with success?

Hi, i’m decently new to final cut so bare with me but I started editing on it a few months ago and i’ve run into a problem that I haven’t been able to fix it all. While working on a large project i’ve run into an issue where I can’t even open it without an endless spinning loading mouse.

It all started when I was low on storage working on the project, it would repeatedly lag out as expected so I cleared a large amount of storage on my macbook pro. Despite clearing out enough storage it actually got worse and now I can’t even click on the project without having to force quit. I’m using the free trial so I can’t delete and reinstall the app but i’ve tried plenty of things like restarting preferences, deleting catches, loading old saves, creating snapshots ect. Somebody mentioned that my clips being on my SD card could be causing issues, but whether it’s connected or disconnected, it still happens. I’d love somebody who is more experienced to point me in the right direction because after an entire day of trying to fix it I’m lost. It could be an easy fix that I just don’t know about, Thank you!!

Editing an audio-only interview in Final Cut because it's available and I've used it a bunch. I have a very loud laugh and the gain was up too high on the mic so every time i laugh the sound blows out and it's really hard to listen to, like, uncomfortable. I've used keyframes and brought the sound down a bunch in those instances but still just sounds like crap. Any ideas besides do better next time?

My father has an M4 Mac mini running Sequoia 15.8.1, which he uses for various audio applications. A couple of months ago, I asked him to download the one-month trial version of Final Cut Pro X (part of the "Creator" bundle) so I could test it out; it was version 12.3, and it worked perfectly.
Yesterday, I decided to purchase an annual subscription using my university student discount. I logged into the Apple Store with my credentials, but when I tried to complete the purchase for the annual student plan, the system wouldn't let me proceed.
I spent over an hour on the phone with customer service, and after countless troubleshooting steps—including a screen-sharing session—they informed me that I couldn't complete the purchase because the latest version of Final Cut Pro is 12.4, which requires a newer version of macOS (macOS 26), meaning I would have to update the operating system. This is impossible for me, as the audio apps my father uses would stop working if I updated. I explained that version 12.3 is still installed on the Mac mini and was working perfectly just last month, but it made no difference—there was simply no way to move forward. The ridiculous part is that my father purchased a standard (non-student) one-month subscription, and everything works perfectly.
I find this to be quite strange….
