When I came out as trans masc, a lot of my butch friends assumed I was butch because I wasn’t a man, I was a lesbian, and I was presenting masc. it didn’t feel right, but also “trans masc” or “masc” didn’t feel entirely right either.
Over the two years of being on t and getting top surgery, I’ve really come to embrace that I like girly things, I like being a femme, but on my day to day I dress more masculine with some femme flair. Sometimes I’ll put on a wig, heels, and makeup for special events.
I often call myself femme, because I am in a butch/femme dynamic and femme does feel the most right term for me. But something I love about the word butch is the connotation that comes with it. It’s masculinity but it’s not being a man, rooted in lesbianism, and many would say is woman-adjacent.
I wish I had something like that as a femme trans masc (because “femme trans masc” is a mouthful, and “femme” while accurate feels lacking, and I don’t want to be seen as just a ~woman~)
Idk, does anyone else feel like this? It’s such a small subset of trans mascness, that I feel so alone in it sometimes. But I often feel like a girl on the inside, even if I have short hair, no tits, take t, and wear masc clothing day to day.
(Also want to preface that you don’t need to be trans masc to be butch, I just know a lot of butches who are also trans 😅)
