I live in the Vineyard area, and am seeking to turn the “empty” field under the power lines across from the new Pat O’Brien Community Center into a community garden (as well as adding more pickleball courts).
Green - Pickleball Courts
Purple - Community Garden
With both personal boxes like Elk Grove’s Community Garden, a native pollinator garden and restoration site, as well as a “three sisters” style food forest on site, somewhat like the Three Sisters Garden or NorCal Resist’s Seeds of Solidarity Farm, to help feed our community.
Maybe to coincide with something like a “Farm-to-Fork Friday” family-friendly food truck event, to go with the selling/handing out of free food, compost, seeds, community, etc. Because why not 🤷♀️ I got nothing else to do, and think this would be a real gem for our community.
But haven’t heard anything back after emailing the Southgate Recreation Board of Supervisors 3 weeks ago, and don’t want to sit on what I think would be a good idea. So who else do I have to contact about making this happen? SMUD? Patrick Kennedy? Benjamin Netanyahu?
I’m not quite sure Southgate even owns this land, and/or if it’s part of Churchill Downs Community Park, but I believe it was part of a future expansion of the park, so I wanted to give them the first crack at it - but they don’t seem to be interested - and I still most definitely am.
So, if anyone could give me advice or help me make this happen, please do! Thank you for your time and consideration. My wallet, stomach, and carbon consciousness thank you 🙏
