How much personalization is actually useful in an EdTech product?
Personalized learning sounds great.
Different students learn at different speeds, struggle with different concepts, and need different types of support.
But personalization also introduces a difficult question.
If every student follows a different path, how do teachers know whether everyone is reaching the same learning objectives?
And how do you compare progress fairly?
I'm curious how EdTech founders and developers approach this.
Do you personalize the learning path, the difficulty of the content, or just the recommendations?
Where have you found that personalization helps, and where does it make things unnecessarily complicated?

Criteria for Educational Apps
Hello everyone, I am currently taking a year off from teaching to work on a masters. An assignment I have is basically to review an educational app or site. I've got a few apps in mind and was wondering about criteria. What factors should I judge them on?
So far, I'm thinking ease of use for teacher and student, versatility, "meaningfulness" (is it more than just a gimmick?), how well it integrates into a lesson. Maybe cost could be one?
This is normally something I would ask around with my colleagues, but as I said I don't have any right now.
BTW, If anyone really thinks this post would constitute issues of academic dishonesty, please speak up and I will take it down. I'm not trying to take any ideas, just brainstorm.

Does individualised learning fail because we don't know enough about students, or because students don't act on what we know?

EdTech founders: Are we measuring learning or just activity?
An EdTech platform can have impressive numbers.
10,000 daily active users. Thousands of lessons completed. High engagement. Great course completion rates.
But none of those numbers necessarily tell you whether students are actually learning.
From a product engineering perspective, I think this is an interesting challenge.
It's relatively straightforward to track logins, clicks, video watch time, and quiz attempts.
It's much harder to measure whether someone understands a concept, retains it, and can apply it later.
I'd be more interested in tracking improvement between assessments, repeated mistakes, and whether students can solve unfamiliar problems after completing a lesson.
Of course, even those metrics need careful interpretation.
For people building EdTech products, how are you measuring actual learning outcomes?
Have you found anything more useful than completion rates and engagement dashboards?

Online Learning Platforms with little to no AI usage
I am a college math instructor currently using Pearson MyLab as my online platform for assignments and resources. I've noticed a strong correlation between the introduction of AI tools and the decline of the platform's functionality. I would prefer to commit to a educational platform that has little to no AI functionality, for the good of my students. Please let me know what has worked for you, and I will look into it and see if I can request the resource for next semester.

Maker Faire Orlando
I'm a former Ed Tech teacher and my crazy DIY home built project I call "Float-O-Matic" was accepted at Maker Faire Orlando (November 7-8). I could use a break mid day on Sat and Sun so I can eat lunch and hit the bathroom. Anyone want to help as a volunteer for an hour one of those days? I can provide you with a free weekend pass. No special skills needed at my booth. It's just a fun hands-on science / tech learning project that requires very little if any guidance for participants. I just can't leave the booth unattended.

Five Ways Higher Ed Leaders Can Center Human Work In AI Adoption
What do you guys think? I personally think that this is an effective way to ensure that AI can be used responsibly if faculty choose to use it in their teaching/research.

What does “AI readiness for teachers” actually mean in practice?
Everyone now claims to make teachers “AI ready,” and I can’t pin down what it means.
My working definition: a teacher is AI ready when they can use AI tools in their own planning, notice when the output is wrong, and set clear rules for how students use it. Knowing which tools exist isn’t enough. I also suspect that kind of readiness comes from weeks of using the tools on real lessons, not from a single demo session.
For those of you who teach, coach teachers, or work in instructional design: if you had to observe one lesson and decide whether a teacher is AI ready, what specific behaviours would you look for? And what would be a clear red flag?

AI Screening
Hi all,
Understand I am a 35 year vet of the tech sector, struggling to land a role in a job market almost all seasoned professionals, even recruiters, agree, "...never seen anything like this before."
I am encouraged by the fact edtech seems to see something in my resume submision. Three different companies seem to be nibbling. Two have requested AI screenings. The third, I was notified by LinkedIn the company had viewed my resume, so I located the recruiter based on the company's people page and dropped him a note.
AI screenings are the new element of this for me. While I am an AI user (Copilot, Claude, Gemini & chatgpt), there are some aspects I find rather annoying and some capabilities lacking.
Example: Claude exists on both my phone & desktop, it generates something for me (say a text file), but if I switch to a different device, it can't seem to wrap its brain around that download in the chat from the other device. It apparently has a Snapchat-like expiration. Seems a bit shortsighted that productivity is tied to a single device, and the use case of mobility overlooked, or is severely limited.
I'm also seeing 50% of candidates are ghosted after the AI screening. To me, that sounds more like data harvesting - building a roster of potentials.
Has anyone here actually made it past one of these screenings to get to an offer?

Is there’s any teachers who switched into edtech jobs?
I am a newly graduated undergraduate with a degree in teaching a foreign language. I am also doing my masters in School counseling currently. However, I just wonder if there’s any opportunities in the field of Ed Tech for someone like me. I am also open to take some courses or certificate needed to be in a edtech position. I’m trying Katherine more information knowing the jobs that I can do before I finally deciding because I know a public school teacher does not have a high pay rate and it is very demanding.

Creating An Animated GIF?
I created a slideshow (only 4 slides) that teaches how to use this annotating strategy but can't figure out how to export the slideshow so that it's a gif. I know I can make it into a video but was wondering if there is a way to create a gif instead.

Help Pease - TV/Screen Sharing for Information
Hi there!
This question is in the sphere of education and technology, but not so much with student resources (Khanmigo, Chromebooks, Lexia) or admin forward (Securly, FACTS) but more about some tangible items.
We have three TVs in our hallways that we use as, essentially, information beacons for the students. Schedule udpates, upcoming events, etc. This past summer our IT department "updated" our TVs. We now have some Insignia 55" Class F50 Series. But... somehow, someway, our IT department has been unable to find the time or ability to get the ready for our use.
It's been excuses (cable guy made a mistake, maintenance guy made a mistake, parts have been delayed) or adding in new layers of tech (Mersive.. but without any training) and we are stuck with blank screens.
I've tried to do some workarounds - Chromecast couldn't get connected to the internet. Microsoft WiDi was a bit better but could connect from my own Surface Pro to the screen.
I am wondering if it's time to just prop up a shelf with a Chromebook that is directly connected via HDMI and just have our slides playing on repeat, or if there is something outthere can give us some temporary use until IT is able to successful to get their ducks in a row and get this working. Right now they estimated a Thanksgiving or December timeline to get the TVs working.
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

13yo can not do homework without ChatGPT anymore
My son gets answers quickly, says he understands, turns in the work, and gets decent grades. Then the next assignment comes around and he can’t do it without ChatGPT because he never really worked through the previous material himself.
i am not anti AAI either. It is the dependency that worries me, and I do not think a 13 yearo ld will always recognize the difference on his own. Anyone else dealing with this?
