Announcement The purpose of this subreddit

Hello everyone! You may have noticed some major changes happening to this subreddit, and I'm happy to say that /r/DiagnoseMe is finally ready for business. However, I would like to clarify the true purpose of this subreddit;

First of all, this subreddit is NOT a replacement for a doctor. You should not, in any way, avoid seeing your doctor or alter the frequency of your doctor visits because of anything said in this subreddit. If there is a concern you would have previously gone to the doctor for, please do not hesitate. This subreddit is here for informal second opinions, minor problems that you wouldn't go to the doctor for anyway, and ease of mind.

The main thing to remember is to use common sense. If you are having severe pain after a surgery or something of the likes, please go to the doctor and do not post it on Reddit.

If you are not a doctor and are posting with information, please clarify that you are not a doctor (typing "Not a doctor," at the beginning of your comment is enough.)

Please take the time to read the sidebar before posting. Thank you, and welcome!

Skin and nails Someone help me with my weird toes

(If you're a bit squeamish in general, maybe sit this one out lol)

-

Ok, so, I have some very gross-looking feet, which is something that I've been told my whole life. I will not be showing you my feet. I do not want to show strangers on the internet my feet. I will, however, describe them.

You see, all the way since I was born, both of my second toenails have been yellow-brown and thick and dome-y and disgusting. They are impossible to cut, they grow sort of curled 'in' instead of straight 'up', if that makes sense? They seem to not grow parallel to my toe but are rather somewhat detached. They also grow kind of slowly and never cause me pain, and the only discomfort I experience from them is never, ever wanting to wear open-toed shoes.

If you're like me and love googling things, most of the things I've said so far line up perfectly with the very rare medical condition nonsyndromic congenital nail disorder 10. However, the problem is that nonsyndromic congenital nail disorder 10 affects all of your nails. Every fingernail and every toenail, while mine are isolated to both of the toes next to my big-toes. (The two nails match exactly, and I don't know if that's a coincidence, or what). Onychauxis is the overall term for the abnormal thickening of nails, but it is generally observed to happen as a result of direct trauma to the affected areas, aging, etc., however my parents swear up and down I popped out of the womb like this, and I know my condition has never worsened or improved throughout my life.

If anyone has any clue how my condition makes any sense at all, PLEASE tell me. There are only around fourteen medically examined cases of nonsyndromic congenital nail disorder 10, so I find it pretty unlikely that I'd be the first example of that happening to only two specific toenails??

This isn't even a problem for me, nor has it ever been, I just hate not knowing the weird rare thing that I have.

Required personal details I have to have that I don't think will be relevant, but must add anyway: age: 16, gender: male, 5'6" 125 lbs I think, US, scoliosis??, I've had this literally my whole life, every 'symptom' is what I've listed above.

Eye issue. No tears

Post image

Ok, so help! Has anyone experienced anything like this?

My daughter is now 19 months old and was born with no tears in her right eye. I took her to our GP when she was a few months old, and he suspected a blocked tear duct and referred us to an ophthalmologist.

We’ve now seen four ophthalmologists, and we’re still no closer to answers.

Here’s our journey so far:
Ophthalmologist #1: Said it was a blocked tear duct and wanted to perform a procedure under general anaesthetic to unblock it when she was 12 months old. He didn’t examine her eye or listen to my concerns. He advised using antibiotic drops if it appeared infected.

Ophthalmologist #2: We ended up in ED one day because the inflammation became so severe that I knew something wasn’t right. They recommended a second opinion. This ophthalmologist said it definitely wasn’t a blocked tear duct and that the red areas appeared to follow the path of the trigeminal nerve. He recommended seeing another specialist because he wasn’t familiar with the condition.

Ophthalmologist #3: Suspected congenital corneal anaesthesia (CCA) and referred us to another specialist.

Ophthalmologist #4: Performed tests in the room, arranged an MRI (which came back normal) and examined her eye under a microscope. Ulcers were found on the cornea, thought to be due to dryness, and she was treated with Chlorsig and steroid drops.
Unfortunately, this last specialist hasn’t been able to give us clear answers about what the next step is, despite us trying to find out. We’re essentially stuck, not knowing where to go from here or how to get a diagnosis.

Her symptoms:
● She has never produced tears from her right eye.
● Redness and inflammation come and go, always affecting the same areas on the right side.
● I’ve noticed the redness flares when something gets in her eye.
● After flushing the eye and using lubricating drops, the redness settles.
● She has developed corneal ulcers, which were thought to be caused by dryness.

She’s now 19 months old, and the underlying problem hasn’t changed.
I’m currently using lubricating drops hourly, and thankfully the redness is much less frequent. The photo shows a previous flare when she was only using Chlorsig, before we started hourly lubrication.

My questions are:
● Has anyone’s child had congenital corneal anaesthesia (CCA), or something similar?
● Can CCA be present despite a normal MRI?
● Could another condition cause an absence of tears from birth, recurrent inflammation and corneal ulcers?
● Has anyone been through a similar diagnostic journey and eventually found answers?
● Can anyone recommend a specialist who has experience with these conditions, particularly in children?
In Aus. We feel like we’ve hit a dead end. One specialist wanted to operate on a presumed blocked tear duct, another said it definitely wasn’t a blocked duct, and a third suspected a rare condition. Now we have a child with ongoing symptoms and a history of corneal ulcers, but no clear diagnosis or plan for what happens next.
We’re not looking for a diagnosis from the internet. We just want to hear from anyone who has experienced something similar or can point us in the right direction.
We just want answers and to make sure we’re doing everything possible to protect her eye and vision.

Teenage Health Memory issues

• Upvotes

I am 18 and over the past year I have noticed my memory getting very foggy. It could be a few things. To preface I will be going to a doctor but for now I need to soothe my nerves. About little under a year ago I slowly went off some adhd meds, anxiety meds, and my birth control for my periods. Also around 4 years ago I was diagnosed with anemia. Today I watched a movie and wanted to tell my friend the plot but got all mixed up and fuzzy and it hit me that my memory sucks and I panicked. Any suggestions?

Bones, joints, and muscles I really need some assurance or insight here. I need real unbiased answers. I have severe health anxiety and am being treated. Do my legs look atrophied? Specifically the lower leg on my right side. I have marked before and after pics of what is old and new. The ones with a ⭐️ are from today. 30yoM

The main blister patch is the same one taken over a 2 day period. I went to urgent care and they did a swab but no results yet. They gave me Valacyclovir for herpes upon visual inspection. I was with a new woman oct 2-8.

Skin and nails Anyone Had Something Similar?

Post image
• Upvotes

I have a GP appointment booked for next week because my partner wanted it checked. For reference I've had this on my leg for I think about two years now but it started as like a sliver, very skin coloured, more invisible.

He noticed that it looks more visible recently. And it does look ever so slightly raised. I have realised it is not as skin coloured anymore, more tan looking.

I don't expose my legs to the sun so I'm curious what exactly it could be and why it's potentially changing now. Has anyone else had this on their legs?

I’ve had this wart/callus growing on the bottom of my left heel for a few months and it doesn’t want to go away. I thought I’d just leave it at first but it’s a little sore when pressure is applied. Does anyone know what it is and whether I should see someone about it?

Skin and nails 22F, random few weeks old rash on chest that looks like like cuts, doesn’t hurt or itch

Looking for help identifying a rash or skin marks that look almost like dots and cuts or scratches? A few weeks ago, I noticed these strange marks appearing on my skin out of nowhere. My sister pointed them out to me and by then they were all over my chest. They have this reddish darker brown color but I haven’t scratched or injured myself to cause all of them. They don’t itch, hurtor burn. Its why I didn’t notice until someone else pointed them out. They’ve stayed pretty much the same since I first noticed them, with no noticeable improvement or changes.

I’m not sure what’s causing them or whether it’s even

General Should I go see a doctor for this? Spoiler

Post image

I’m 17f and my cat bit me 8 days ago on my calf, and this is how it looks today. It doesn’t feel painful unless I put pressure on the wounded area and it does feel a bit “tight”(? idk the right word, like solid or almost like when a muscle is knotted). There’s no pus or anything either. I don’t know if all the bruising everywhere is normal or if I should potentially go see a doctor. Thank you so much!

(Also, please don’t tell me anything is wrong with my cat, she is not usually aggressive and doesn’t bite often)

Painful armpit lump, CRP 71, and redness all over my body. I'm really scared.

Hi everyone, I'm 25F and honestly terrified right now.

About a week ago, after shaving my armpit, I developed a hard, extremely painful lump under the skin. The pain became sharp and stabbing, even when resting.

I went to the hospital, where an ultrasound showed an enlarged lymph node. My CRP was initially 33, but it has now increased to **71**.

I've also developed widespread redness on my stomach, back, and legs. My doctor thinks it's a systemic reaction to the infection and suspects the lump may have developed pus.

I've started taking Amoxiclav, and I'm supposed to have a procedure tomorrow to drain or remove the infected area.

**Has anyone experienced anything similar, especially the high CRP and redness all over the body? Did you recover completely?**

I'm already receiving medical care, but I'm extremely anxious and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar. ❤️

There’s this bruise that appeared on my arm a couple of days ago, but I definitely didn’t bump it, and it isn’t sore in the normal bruise way. There’s kind of a hard little bump in the center when I run my hand over it? My arm has started to feel kind of feverish today specifically. It just gets bigger every day. Does anybody know what this is and Is it worth getting checked out?

Cancer Scaly, slightly raised mole?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’ve had this mole for a while and haven’t noticed significant changes in the time I’ve been watching it (about a year), but I don’t remember always having it. It looks different than other moles on my arm. I have Kaiser and don’t think I can just request a derm appointment, I’d have to go through my PCP first but I’ve never gotten a full body skin check as a lifetime outdoor swimmer.

Skin and nails What is this small pink rash near my thumb?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

The palm of my hand near my lower thumb has been itching for about 16 hours. There's a small pink rash and it's itchy and a little painful when I press on it. It feels a little warm too. I don't remember getting any bites or wounds.
