Dexter turns 20: Michael C. Hall and company reflect on the shocking twists, infamous endings, and the killer Resurrection. MCH and his fellow OG Dexter stars discuss the Emmy-winning show’s surprising longevity; while Resurrection stars Uma Thurman, Krysten Ritter, Dan Stevens, and Brian Cox look ahead to the bloody good new season of the sequel series.

Major Spoiler for Lt. Quinn:

Working as a private investigator, Quinn ventures to NYC in search of answers about Angel’s death and Prater’s activities.

Major Spoiler for Charlie Brown:

Charlie seeks out Dexter, offering to facilitate his mission to take care of the remaining suspects in Prater’s files. And it’s possible that their business partnership turns into something more.

Spoiler for Dexter Resurrection Season 1

In Episode 9 of Dexter Resurrection, Charlie is able to track Dexter to a Restaurant while he's getting lunch with Harrison, allowing Prater to come confront (and not so subtly threaten) him. Dexter is able to give them the slip, but somehow Charlie is able to track Harrison to his job at the Empire Hotel. Not super surprising, Charlie is shown to be very competent.

However, after learning that Harrison has been interrogated by Charlie at work, Dexter enlists Blessing to give Harrison a ride from work and take him to Dexter's place since Prater and Charlie do not yet know where Dexter lives. Is it just me, or does that seem like a ridiculously bad idea? I get it works out, Dexter is able to get to Charlie first, he finds her mother, then threatens her in the back seat of her own car... but as he doesn't kill Charlie there, she's still capable of tailing Harrison when he leaves work. And unlike Dexter, who we already know is extremely good at both identifying a tail and throwing a tail (as he's done many times in the original series, Doakes gives him loads of practice) Blessing is not. Hell, Blessing is not expecting a tail and is literally driving Harrison to Dexter's home, a place Prater doesn't yet know about, and a good way to figure out who Dexter really is. I don't see the reason to loop in Blessing here. I don't see how this move was supposed to help the Charlie situation. If it was simply because it frees up Dexter to do other stuff, his confrontation with Charlie happens way before Harrison got off work so that doesn't seem to be it.

Look, obviously there's other things to overlook throughout the season. Dexter taking his own personal vehicle to Prater meetups after the first one (including leaving his car at the helipad at the end of episode 6, registered to Dexter Morgan). The season is a 9/10 to me. This doesn't detract from anything, I just like to try to make sure I'm at least keeping track of any little inconsistencies you know?

My wife has Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill.

I have Dexter.

But the show really is special to me. I moved into the first place my wife and I would rent four months before our wedding. For the first time ever I was living completely myself. No roommate, no pet.

I had heard about Dexter. The first season dropped the year I graduated High School. At the time I was a little weary of it, thinking it’d be too dark and weird.

And it is dark and weird. But the show has such a humor, wit and eventually, very conflicted heart that grows as Dexter does. (The books thus far are MUCH darker)

I think Dexter resonates so much for me because I can be a very inward person, and see the duality and contradictions in myself pretty clearly. There’s something comforting and almost commiserating about watching a character live that out.

I binged the entire first six seasons on my phone at night before bed. It was such a crazy first watch, and I look back fondly on those times as a lonely bachelor, like Dex himself. ;)

Micheal C Hall’s fitness level also motivated me to start working out regularly and I modeled some of my routine after his.

I’m pumped for Ressurection Season 2, having slept on season 1 for no apparent reason and just finished it a month ago.

Just came here to say that I have what is probably considered an ‘unusual’ comfort watch go-to. Though perhaps not among you all.

In the latest preview, AL seems to be highly suspicious of Dexter. And why would Dexter propose to meet in some "old body shop"?

What is your prediction on AL this season?

I feel like Lundy kinda did secretly. I got that vibe at times.

I know there probably isn’t but.. just was thinking on it..

This is unlikely to happen in the show, but Astor and Cody do have dark passengers in the books. To be clear, I mean what if Dexter found out that adult Astor and/or Cody had become serial killers that killed innocents?

This is a few years old now, but this will always be my favorite cosplay I've ever done. I even had blood spatter nails! This is actually the first year in a decade I had to skip the Dexter manicure for Halloween due to finances. FYI, this was done by a photographer friend before AI was a thing.

I heard they are bringing back the morning routine style intro of the original series and original sin for resurrection, and was really disappointed. I really loved the flash forwards followed by the episode title blending into the scene. It gave the sequels a such a unique style that I’m going to miss a lot.

I've always been a reader and I have been a Dexter fan since the beginning but I've never read the novels. Are they worth it? I've heard show Dexter and book Dexter are very different characters and while I live the creativity and concept of the books I've always gotten the impression that they aren't very well written. What do yall think?

Personally i think dexter being forced on the run and embracing who he is wouldnt be that bad. I also liked the idea of harrison killing him but not the way it was executed.

Anyone find it odd that Hannah didn’t ever bother to change her appearance? Change her hair colour, dress a different way etc. she had so much money she could have bought a whole new identity, she didn’t even try.

After finishing breaking bad i went on to find another high rated popular series, and that’s when i came across Dexter being mentioned numerous times. I’ve seen it multiple times through cover arts and DVDs in store. I’ve assumed he was a district attorney/lawyer/law enforcement career who just felt the need to be a vigilante out of HERO obligation but never knew how methodical he gets. Filler type of episodes that just basically brings a monster of the week every episode. Not really a plot development in a way and didn’t expect big bads. Love that aspect that leans into Dexter being a skilled hunter. So i picked it up after reading the synopsis, started the series when Netflix still had it not long before it was removed, and DROPPED it due to the creepiness it gave me in the beginning around 2/3 eps. It was the combination of the attitude & general atmosphere. I usually like the dark air shows, never gets to me, tough stomach for horror themes like that , carry with the “emptiness” quiet feeling it just felt like nothing but despair & i only chose to watch it at night , mixed with Dexter demeanor , the blood, flashbacks, and some other aspects i chose to let it go.

I came across a season 4 YouTube video about a year and some time after that, avoiding spoilers it was dexter thanksgiving dinner. Just off a blind watch assumption I expected the target to be the son from his mannerisms and because I DID NOT expect a devoted family man praying to be who he was. The choreography, acting , vibe, development was 10/10. Phenomenal. First Impressions was I loved the espionage/infiltration dexter used going by “Kyle” . I thought the target already knew who Dexter was by him saying “I should’ve took my chance when I had it” & basically avoided the table by trying to be a mentor figure to dexter. The sequence to the car ride & Ghost Harry showing up was unique and executed well. Dexters emotions in the car and his impulses/outburst was captivating. So it got me back into dexter and I’ve been reeled in ever since

I've just noticed as episode 1 has come into my queue, the first kill that Dexter does to the man from behind his driver's seat, he is using the same tool Ronald Schmidt does as the imposter Dark Passenger in Resurrection.

Just wondering as s1 ep 1 and 2 dropped at the same time

Awesome and friendly woman. Wife and Julie complimented each other's hair ahah.

Do you think it’ll be as a good as s1?

So I’ve watched all of the original show and New Blood. I thought New blood was fine. I haven’t seen original sin but have heard it’s good. I’m about to start resurrection for the first time.

The real reason I’m here: my fiancé wants to watch resurrection with me but he’s never seen anything in the Dexter universe.

I did a rewatch on my own months ago (of the original first few seasons) and thought that some of the dialogue and tropes in the original show were cheesier than I remember. I still love the show, but I’m wondering if he could just start with Resurrection?

Would he be missing out by not watching the first 8 seasons before starting it?

Has anyone started with resurrection and then treated the original as a backstory or prequel?

In Dexter season 8 episode 6, there's a scene where Dexter and Debra are eating a bad steak and eventually decide to order pizza instead. Debra says she wants pineapple on it, Dexter says not on his half. Just something I noticed during my rewatch.
