Been rewatching again and it just hit me how even the makeup on the background aliens and extras look really good. I have seen so many shows even modern ones where the makeup just is nowhere near the quality of this show.

The use of AI and special effects in the modern shows just doesn’t have the same appeal as old school practical effects makeup and masking. The thing that really stands out is this was a weekly show for years and the makeup artists were performing at this level under intense pressure to get so many actors ready for the roles even when they weren’t anything other then an extra in the background.

Golden age of Star Trek for sure.
