Discussion The Dead Space Remake is a 10/10 masterpiece.

I just have to get this out there. I have played many games across many genres, including tons of horror games. Nothing holds a flame to Dead Space. The feeling I get when I play this game cannot be replicated anywhere else. I believe it is a masterpiece because it nails it in pretty much every category.

The sound design is top notch, it slowly makes you feel like you’re going insane, watching your back thinking there’s something watching you. The whispers/voices, and the industrial machinery giving it a cold, dark, metallic environment sanitized of any hope. Even some machinery sounding exactly like the screams of the necromorphs. The atmosphere is unbeatable, and the music that is sprinkled in sparingly is high quality, well thought out horror/sci-fi music.

The visual quality is amazing. Everything is a horror fan’s eye candy. The necromorphs are truly horrifying in appearance. The Ishimura has tons of variety in each setting, making something that sounds monotonous and repetitive on paper, feel refreshing and different. You really feel a sense of relief when you finish a chapter or get to a save station, or store to re-up your ammo.

The story and lore has vast depth, plot twists, solid character building. You feel like you really are Isaac Clarke, and that you have been inadvertently tasked with the near impossible. You can feel the tension and the intensity, where your only real option is to keep pushing forward, even if it may feel dreadful.

All in all, I personally can’t think of any complaints with the game, it’s just all around an incredible masterpiece to me. I’ve replayed it since I was a teenager so many times I’ve lost count, it’s almost like a comfort game to me at this point, and I’m considering going for a 100% completion for the remake. Anyways, I just wanted to get this out there as I feel a massive sense of passion and appreciation for this game, I love it so much.

I’ll admit I only watched dead space 3 and I really didn’t like it and I don’t consider it canon.

why was dead space severed only on consoles?

I don’t think anyone knows how disappointed I was when I finished the pc port of dead space 2 ready to load up the severed dlc only to find out it was a console exclusive dlc, i think it sucks because this dlc is basically locked behind the ps3 and 360 ports of the game unless i get the 360 backwards compatible version of ds 2 on Xbox one which means I would have to buy a whole Xbox and another copy of ds 2 and I have no hope that EA will ever put it on steam or make ds 2 remake seeing how little they care about dead space, the only dead space content we’ve gotten in years is a battlefield 6 collab which is cool I guess it’s better than nothing but man dead space deserves so much more love than EA gives it.

Discussion My “Eldritch particle” theory on the Markers.

I remember someone saying years ago describing a marker as “it’s like a brain that wants a body” then after a while I came up with this.

Imagine a race beings so advance that their tech was almost god-like but they were fragile and their mortality was short and their resources were running dry. So they created something similar to a particle collider but this one had the ability to cross dimensions and they discover something from an unknown reality let‘s call it the “Eldritch particle“ they studied it reverse engineered it and it gave them limitless energy and essentially became ‘Gods’.

But then things went wrong their curiosity got the better of them started hearing voices, cults were formed and the horror of this particle was using them to make ’it’ and the beings had no idea that they were being controlled by this thing and were means to an end to build a marker and the first brethren moon was made.

But there’s also another theory about the symbols being ‘alive’ but that’s something else entirely.

Discussion The creation of necromorphs, and how they were created.

Am I the only one here genuinely curious on how larger necromorphs were formed? From brutes to the hive mind.

Like how did the marker compiled all the bodies and turned them into necromorphs visually. Merging of bodies to form brutes, or the significantly larger bosses. What's the process? Apart from the infectors.

Is there a way to do this besides Steam Input for the Steam version? I am playing the games through Game Pass.

Dead Space 1 VS Dead Space Remastered Scariness

I’ve recently started replaying the dead space games, and I’m playing dead space remastered right now, I was surprised by how much it freaked me the fuck out. The way that necromorphs creep on you without nearly any queue of their presence leads to lots of terrible jumpscares while in combat, and the unpredictability of when they’ll pop out when just wandering around the ishimura leads to equally terrifying moments, its led me to slowly creep around areas that I’d otherwise run through, and given me a sense of dread that persists the entire time I’m playing.

I know from experience that the original dead space is terrifying in its own right, but do y’all think it’s scarier than the remake?

Discussion 12th play DS remake critiques from someone who looks at the details. (And wants more Dead Space in life.)

After completing this year's DS remake playthrough. A game that has become the definitive DS1 game for me. After playing it since launch. As it fits much better along side DS2. And is a great game for many reasons. But its not perfect and I wanted to discuss my thoughts on it (some points you might have heard multiple times). And see what other dedicated Dead Space fans feel about it. Here are my main criticisms:

- All the slashers in the remake don't charge at Isaac as much as they should. They still do it, but not enough. Like they did in the OG trilogy.

- While I appreciate the slashers having more ethnicities. I wish there were more female necromorphs. Especially with so many crew members being women. And I think the naked slasher could really use some hair and more blood. Like the OG version.

- I wish they kept in the OG armored slasher. That first appears on the mining deck. As this new version is wearing a USM Valor military RIG. Which doesn't appear for a couple chapters. And I like the old armored slasher look too.

- The Hunter is not as imposing as it is in the OG. One issue I think. Is its new walking animation. It makes the Hunter slouch and give a less intimidating posture. I also wish they kept its glowing eyes.

- I don't like the bright green color of the acidic bile that the Spitters and the Hivemind produce. It stands out too much from the rest of the game. A more darker mucusey green with some blood, maybe?

- Some criticisms I seen many times. That I completely agree with: Kendras reaction to the Necromorphs in chapter 1 was too calm. Dr. Mercers death was very underwhelming. Dr. Kyne as a whole was underwhelming. The ending jumpscare was underwhelming too.

- Hard and impossible mode are not difficult enough. The game should take inspiration from Dead Space 2 for its overall difficulty balance. Like ammo drop for more than weapons you use.

- The Necromorphs don't grab at Isaac enough. In my newest playthrough. I wasn't grabbed at once. In the OG games. It would occur several times. Which aligns with how you witness some characters die.

- Not really a must. By I miss Isaac having an Idle animation.

- Not a criticism but desires. I would have liked remake takes on the astronaut suit, the OG basic engineer suit, and the OG military suit. In some DLC packs. With maybe the Rivet Gun too.

Discussion It's wise to rectify: purchasing the physical edition of Dead Space Remake from Xbox Series X.

I can't deny it: when Electronic Arts announced the remake of Dead Space, my first thought was: "oh, here we go again, another unnecessary remake. The original version is still great, there is only 15 years gap, the remake can't afford any evident improvement". What wrong i was...

When i watched the first gameplays.. WHOA! What was that? The atmosphere had turned more oppressive, more depth, the lights and shadows had given a renovated and better touch. The main character talked, giving him more profundity, the weapons felt more overwhelming, etc.

Motive Studio reached what i though that was impossible: create a game that respects the original, improve and expand it. My sincere congratulations.

So yeah, it was time to make justice and buy this phenomenal remake.

Regards!

With only a DS2 remastered I'm happy

If they bring a remastered on PC with DLC included, multiplayer working and better textures I'm fine.

Don't need a DS2 remake, I prefer a DS4

Bug Is the remake incredibly buggy for anyone else?

Post image
21 Upvotes

Finally got around to playing the remake. Does anyone else feel that for a AAA game, there's a lot of bugs and quality of life issues that just bring down the experience? I'm still on my first playthrough (Chapter 11, about 10 hours in), but these are all the bugs I've encountered so far:

  • Persistent audio and visual bugs, stores will sometimes have this "neon fog" effect where they emit a blinding rainbow colored smoke
  • Isaac will sometimes load in and be invisible except for his gun
  • The ingame inventory menu won't appear when I press TAB, and switching guns doesn't bring up the weapon wheel
  • NPCs will sometimes be invisible (screenshot above, I don't even know who he killed because his victim never loaded in no matter how many times I reloaded the scene)
  • Adding on, NPCs when they're invisible will have no audio, Isaac was the only one talking in this scene
  • Sounds will be delayed, for example I will fire my gun or pick up an item and 3 seconds later the audio will finally catch up and play
  • Enemies will sometimes be invisible, if I'm lucky they pop back in, if I'm unlucky they stay invisible and kill me
  • Doors will sometimes get stuck loading and never open, trapping me inside until I restart

And then there's the weird quality of life issues and lack of polish:

  • The distance and angle you can open up lockers and chests isn't the same as the distance/angle you need to be in order to pick up the items inside. Every time there's a row of lockers, I can stand still to open them but I have to move right in front of each locker to pick up each item
  • Kinesis seems to prioritize grabbing items close to you rather than what you're aiming at, so I'll accidentally grab a bottle instead of an explosive, drop it, try to pick up the explosive but grab the bottle again, and repeat until I get run up on and stabbed
  • Once when I was missing two sections of health, I used quickheal and used up the large healthkit in my inventory instead of the small one
  • Sometimes when I'm in settings or in the in-game menu, I have to press ESC twice for the menu to respond
  • Lastly, the game is too DARK. Not scary dark, but more like the contrast is set too high. I've played other darkly lit horror games, and I've never seen it as bad as this. The other DS games are practically shining in comparison. A contrast setting would have been nice to adjust this, since I don't want to just turn up the brightness.

I know I'm a few years late to the party, and from what research I've seen, most people aren't having these issues, but damn these small annoyances have been adding up and bringing my enjoyment of the game down.

First time playing, do we get stronger?

First time ever opening the game in my life and instantly getting to work “aiming for limbs”. However not sure if this is a game I want to sink my teeth in to complete or not? Is this game like DOOM where we progressively get stronger and WE become the “villain” in terms of power & ability? Or are we always in that hunted feeling?
