I got a note on some paperwork that was dropped off today
I think someone was idly writing and didn’t realize that I needed to take this copy 🤭

The National Archives is looking for volunteers who can help transcribe and organize its many handwritten records: The goal of the Citizen Archivist program is to help “unlock history” by making digital documents more accessible.
Been doing this for a month and it’s fascinating! You click on a topic that interests you and it takes you right to those historical records in the Catalog. Tagging and transcribing makes these records more accessible to everyone. New missions are added and updated regularly, so check back often to see what’s new.

I found this ring at an estate sale and it could be upside down, but I think this is the right way. First letter appears to be an L, the second letter I am unsure of…any thoughts?
EDIT: it would seem that the LGs have it! Further online sleuthing shows the previous homeowners’ initials as JFHG and JG, but JFHG father’s initials were LG.
I promise I know how to read cursive and my partner can too, but we have never seen a capital G written this way. Thanks for your help everyone :)

Been using cursive since I was in high school, since it's faster and easier and the fact that I suck at writing the "normal" way (It takes way longer for me lol). Years passed, I feel like my cursive looks taller and thinner than normal and had improvised shortcuts on some of the letters I write. Do you guys have any tips for making it look neater and more consistent? Or should I just go back to practicing the basics, or are there other techniques that could help?

I know this is sorta long but if anyone would take the time to decipher what this diary entry from President James Garfield says that’d be much appreciated ! I love learning about the man but suck at reading cursive…

Trying to decipher this section of an ancestors document from 1876. Likely medical language, I’m especially stuck on the first word and the word after 3 days.
The end 100% says 14th May 1876. Pretty sure that could be sore throat on the first and second line as well?
Thank you!

Hello, this is from a German Feldpost letter dated 1941. I believe the surname is Gras, but I'm not certain of the first name? It's addressed to Frau...
Thanks in advance.

This is from the TV Show "Light as a Feather". Its a prediction of how a character is supposed to die. Now... do I not know how to read cursive OR is this purposefully illegible?
