From https://www.nerdwallet.com/travel/news/bilt-improves-bilt-cash:

  • 4% Bilt Cash on card spend is going away unless you opt-out to the change by your cardholder anniversary, leaving only the "up to 1.25x" option. (Bilt Cash as a whole is not going away)
  • Bilt Cash will last longer. Moving to 12-month expiry, replacing Dec. 31 expiration with $100 rollover. You'll find your Bilt Cash expiration date in the app.
  • Hotel credits issued as Bilt Cash. In 2027, hotel credits will be issued as Bilt Cash on your cardholder anniversary (replacing Jan 1).
  • Product changes are finally available, both card upgrades and downgrades. Upgrade in the Bilt app or downgrade by calling customer service.
  • Points redemptions on Home Away from Home, along with FHR-like benefits on 2-night stays, are coming for Bilt Gold and Platinum members. Could be a solid deal @ 1.25 cpp through the portal.
  • Elite members get new perks. New status match for Hertz and Sixt.
  • Daily Rewards is launching. Each qualifying housing payment and neighborhood activities will unlock rewards and chances to win larger prizes.

Discussion / Conversation You can construct the perfect credit card downside the AF is 1000 would you do it

• Upvotes

If yes, what would the perfect credit card look like - especially to justify the annual fee of 1,000 dollars.
Bonus you can pick the transfer partners and credits.

(this is not affiliated with anything - I just have no one in my circle who care about credit cards)

Discussion / Conversation Balance Transfer gone horribly wrong - need advice!

• Upvotes

I recently took advantage of a balance transfer from my Citi to US B to help pay down $5000 while recovering from surgery (workers comp kicked in really late so things needed to go on a cc). Somehow the wrong account number (my wife's cc that is undergoing Chapter 13 for the past 2 years) was added and no one can understand why. Both banks are refusing to fix it and had my wife contact the debt collection agency in charge, which we all know that outcome- they are refusing to pay her even though the check was addressed to me, who is not part of the Chapter 13. Before anyone starts on chapter 13, it was due to a terrible health issue that accrued a massive amount of debt and was not any of our faults. Let's please focus on the issue at hand.

Does anyone know what lawyers to contact or have any other suggestions? It's really not fair since the error was not entered by me while applying for the transfer but honestly, even if it was, there should be protocols in place to help fix the issue.

Any advice would be great. Thank you in advance.

Data Point Wells Fargo Autograph Journey Approval

Wanted to share my data point as reading others helped me.

I applied at 0/6 0/12 4/24. Wanted to wait until I was 3/24, but alas. Was not pre-qualified but I went ahead and applied. Received "need more time" response.

They pulled Experian only.

About 4 business days later I received a letter asking for income verification through paystubs. I sent those in and 2 business days letter received an email approving me..

I had no previous relationship, but strong credit scores and decent income. I was worried about the 4/24 as I was denied back in July by Amex for too many revolving accounts in the past 24 months and I know Wells Fargo can be strict. So glad to get this card!

Discussion / Conversation Double checking the math on 6% bofa online shopping promo vs a flat 250 bonus card (plus an eligibility question)

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Just trying to map out my next card application strategy and wanted to double-check my first-year math before I pull the trigger. I consider myself a pretty medium spender who likes chasing solid sign-up bonuses, but I prefer to stay away from massive minimum spend requirements or high annual fees.

Right now, I am trying to decide between two routes for a year-one optimization play which are (1) the BofA Customized Cash Rewards intro offer that doubles online shopping to 6% for the first year with a 200 dollar bonus, or (2) grabbing a completely different card that gives a flat 250 dollar cash bonus up front while keeping me at 3% back on online purchases.

Both cards have that quarterly cap of 2500 dollars on elevated categories (10k max per year before it drops down to 1%).

Doing a quick calculation on the first-year value to figure out where the break-even sits: if X is the annual online spend, setting the two equal looks like 200 + 0.06X = 250 + 0.03X, which simplifies to 0.03X = 50, so X = 1666.67 dollars.

So it looks like 1666.67 dollars in first-year online spend is the break-even point. If I spend more than that annually, the 6% promo with the lower 200 dollar bonus wins out. If I spend less, the flat 250 bonus card wins.

To completely max out the 10k annual category cap, it would require hitting exactly 2500 dollars a quarter, which breaks down to about 833 dollars a month in purely online shopping spend. Honestly, that monthly number seems pretty unrealistic to me for normal, everyday usage unless you are constantly buying a bunch of computer stuff online or dropping cash on huge retail upgrades. But if I did somehow max it out, the 6% promo nets 800 dollars total vs 550 on the other card, giving an extra 250 dollars in clean profit. Does that logic check out, or am I overlooking a hidden variable in how BofA structures or counts these category multipliers during year one?

The big catch I just thought of is that I actually already have a bofa customized cash card that was originally a secured card, but it graduated/upgraded to a regular unsecured customized cash card a few years ago. I am not sure if I should try going for an affinity version of the card or stick to the regular vanilla application because I am confused about my actual eligibility for the CCR bonus. I had the secured version before the upgrade years ago, but when I called customer service, their system just shows my account as a normal customized cash application and they seemingly have zero memory or record of it ever being a secured version beforehand. Does having this graduated account completely disqualify me from getting approved for a new separate customized cash card or make me ineligible for the intro sign-up bonus?

Another x-factor I just noticed while browsing is that the Rakuten portal actually has extra stackable cash back bonuses right now if you apply for personal BofA cards through them. For example, they are showing 200 dollars cash back for the Customized Cash and Travel Rewards cards, 150 dollars for the Unlimited Cash Rewards, and 250 dollars for the Premium Rewards card. I'm trying to figure out if these stack cleanly with the main bank offers, since that would pad the numbers a lot.

I am trying to figure this all out since I have a future laptop upgrade down the line (trying to decide if buying via the Apple education store vs an Amazon sale is the best way to leverage that online category spend), so I want to make sure the application rules line up before I make any decisions. Thanks!

Help Needed / Question Chase refund didn’t deduct from statement balance

Sorry if it’s a dumb question but I can’t seem to grasp this concept. In September I owed $673, on October 11th I recieved a $117 refund for a $117 item I bought on oct 3rd. Instead of taking from my October balance, it used it as a credit for the September balance, so I paid 556. Now my statement balance is around 800, and the 117 that I originally spent is included. So basically the 117 increased my October balance, and it refunded me it in my September balance? So in theory I did recieve the refund? It just seemed so high to me, given that it was 117 taken off

Data Point US Bank Smartly Credit Card Advantage at 2.5%?

Many folks are saying this card is no longer worth it as a catch-all card due to the high amount needed to be parked in checking - Looking for feedback if using at 2.5% cashback level. Assuming I move forward and open a US Bank Smartly checking and savings account, and fund 10K to checking and 15 K to savings, I should then have a catch all card @ 2.5% (except for use on taxes etc. as that's not allowed anymore). Assuming I spend 2K a month on purchases that I don't use my other card (AMEX BCP) for, in a year that is 24K. 2.5% back totals $600. If I kept the 10K in a 5% HYSA etc. it would earn $500. Abiding I spend more than 20K a year on the card, it seems to come out ahead at the 2.5% then a 5% interest savings account. Is this math wrong? Hoping someone can poke holes in the theory - or confirm it - open to any advice as well that might serve the 10K better. Thanks! Also any other positives/uses for max cashback with this card can anyone share? I just feel like I am missing something due to the negative position many seem to have towards this card.

Discussion / Conversation What do you think of my strategy to use United club card or Chase Sapphire reserve for calendar year 2027

I’ve been using the Chase Sapphire Reserve since I joined the military years ago. Recently, I opened up the United club card. Since I’m active duty, I have never had to pay annual fee and I am completely waived from on any fees until I retire from the military in a few years.

This year I’m going to meet the Chase 75K annual spend and by the end of the year I should have about 115-120K UR points. I don’t really travel a lot except for the 1-3 vacations a year we take us a family. I’m trying to build up my United Airlines mileage.

What are you guys think about my strategy? I’m a big to any other strategies that you guys think would be beneficial. Thank you guys.

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Applying for two different cards

I just got approved yesterday for the Fidelity signature Visa 2% rewards card to become my new catch all Card, but I’m looking to stop using my Chase freedom unlimited card that isn’t doing a ton for me aside from the 3% restaurants. I see that there is AAA travel advantage card that is also 0 annual fee, and I see that it would yield 5% on gas EV charging, 3% on groceries and dining, basically rendering the Chase Card obsolete, which is my intention as I’m moving all of my accounts out of Chase.
I saw that if you’re going to do it, I could apply for the AAA card and they may not see the first inquiry since it just happened yesterday, right?
My credit score before I got the Fidelity yesterday was 818, make 112k, I own my home that I purchased about seven months ago, I don’t need to buy a vehicle anytime soon, I’m thinking it could be a useful way to get the two card set up that I’m looking to use for the future and remove another app (Chase).
Any thoughts on this?

EDIT: i’m seeing that Comenity Bank pause experience but the Fidelity code I applied for yesterday called Trans Union. I got them on. I’m assuming the other side will not see what happened yesterday.

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Balance transfer card citi vs amex?

Quick little stats rundown:
Credit score ~720-740
5 cards:
cap one quicksilver 4400/6250
Cap one platinum 228/1500
Credit one 185/2000
Credit one 1048/2050
Milestone 0/700
Total 5861/12500 47% utilization

My goal is to get these down to zero and just have 1 or 2 “good” cards. I can almost pay all of them off now except the 4400 balance. The reason I’m thinking between citi and amex is citi for the longer 0% term and amex for the possibly high enough limit I can transfer them all to one card. Right now I save about $600 per month and $250 goes towards minimums and I save up the rest. One thing I have considered is a 401k loan, paying them all off and save for 10-12 months and pay the loan off. That’s easier and more guaranteed but I’d rather not do that if I don’t have to.

Any advice here is greatly appreciated!

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) USBAR Survivor Seeking New CC

The time is coming to get rid of my USBAR… I had it only for a year when they decided to take my boy‘s legs and throw in terrible partners just to appear as if they are trying in some way after months of nothing.

Current cards:

  • Costco credit card for gas for myself and at restaurants when they don’t take Apple Pay.
  • American Express blue card for online purchases for 3% back when Apple Pay isn’t accepted.
  • AMEX Delta Blue collecting dust in my wallet, untouched after downgrade from Delta Silver. - Just get rid of it??
  • Discover rotating 5% card I’ve had for almost 10 years that I use rarely. First credit card and worried if I close my credit takes a hit.

Good credit, usually shows around 790-800 in portals. Good paying job at around $150k. Travel two or three times a year mainly within the US for short trips and weddings but going to start doing international once a year if the economy keeps ignoring itself.

I like simple catch all cards like the USBAR was because I didn’t have to think much. to learn an ecosystem, but it just seems stressful would like to know of cards well with what I have already because I’ve had the Costco one for three years and AMEX for almost 7 so worried about my credit line hit and trying to get a house in a year or so (rates keep pushing that back).

Thanks for any help!

Discussion / Conversation Looking to convert a large amount of thank you rewards to cash back

I've accumulated over 450k points from my Citi Thank You Preferred card over the last decade or so, but would only redeem them occasionally for gift cards for large appliance purchases.

I've done some very rudimentary research on the Citi Double Cash card and am wondering if it would be as easy as switching over the to CDC and turning my points into $4500 in CB.

According to Google I may still be able to convert to the now discontinued Custom Cash Back card since I'm a long time Citi member. Forgive any ignorance on the CB aspect of these cards as it's my first foray into CB and I'd just like to know where to start.

Help Needed / Question Anyone who had upgraded from Capital One Platinum to Quicksilver, have you done a PC from there?

As the title suggests

I wanted to know if anyone have had any luck by having an PC from Quicksilver? I already had the email offer awhile back to upgrade from platinum after 6 months. I've never really saw any relevant info while googling but I ought to check if others had it work this way or had to apply for another card. I didn't want to have anymore cards opened in my credit profile while I'm working on my recently opened account age. If it helps, I still have mastercard and not discover network version of the card yet.

It's my first time posting here, but please let me know about your experience.

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Chase Freedom unlimited or Wells Fargo active cash?

Hello! I was looking to get a 2% cash back card and saw that Wells Fargo active cash was seemingly the most popular one due to its 200 dollar SUB. Unfortunately I think it got lowered to 100 recently which I didn’t realize. I need a catch all card and saw that Chase freedom unlimited is a 1.5% credit card that provides the same 200 dollar bonus active cash used to. I currently only have 1% standard cash back cards so it would be an improvement. Which card do you think makes more sense in the long run for a recent graduate?

Help Needed / Question Credit Card advice - add a Quicksilver?

I am building credit after hard times (615 fico) and now do well making about 500K a year. CapOne gave me a Venture and extended my credit limit to 7K.
Now they are offering me the Quicksilver. I don’t know how much credit they would extend me, but my bigger question is:
If I open an additional card, will it hurt or help my credit score? Any thoughts?

Discussion / Conversation Am I eligible for a Chase Sapphire Reserve Welcome Bonus?

I have the Chase Sapphire Preferred and received the welcome bonus for it about 3 years ago, I am now interested in the Chase Saphhire Reserve and I want to make sure I am eligible for the welcome bonus.

I went to a Chase branch and was told that I wouldn't be eligible for the CSR welcome bonus because I had a CSP welcome bonus but I am reading different posts online that seems to be incorrect.

I called Chase and they told me to download my CSP then apply for the CSR, I am just looking for different data points of people with CSP and was able to get the CSR and its welcome bonus.

Help Needed / Question Is Barclays really that bad, that I shouldn't get a card from them?

I don't know if this is more of a question or discussion, but I wanted some feedback. I have multiple cards and I was thinking of getting a catch all card. Which usually would be about 2% but since I saw that Samsung came out with a 3% card if I use Samsung Pay which I do then it was a no brainer. Now that being said I saw that Barclays is the issuer of the card and did a little digging around and saw that a lot of people have a problem with them. So, the question is are they so bad that I should just stick to a 2% card to avoid having troubles in the future or are all the reviews just a tad bit exaggerated. I would like to know and here what y'all have to saw. I'm also asking this because I'm buying some Samsung devices in the near future and well also because Walmart just started accepting tap to pay which makes it an even bigger reason for me to get the card. Anything is appreciated, idk if I did this correctly but I hope I did.

Help Needed / Question Switching to citi / steps suggested?

Hey everyone! Posted here a few times.

My current goal is to switch from my quicksilver and savor cards to the double cash and strata premier. i primarily fly american which is the reason for the switch.

double cash bc more points than quick silver and strata to replace the savor (seems better overall)

the last card i got was in january this year, the aadvantage platinum card for the 80k sign up bonus.

should / can i apply to get both the double cash and strata at the same time (back to back) or should i space it out (a few months)

I don't have plans to take any loans out anytime soon so credit score is fine to take a hit for the applications. I'm sure it'll bounce back semi quickly once the aadvantage hits 1 year and also if i get 2 cards, all that extra credit limit is going to keep my usage way low.

thoughts?

EDIT: Suggestions on what to do with the cards i'll no longer use as much if at all? Thanks!

Help Needed / Question Barclays to Citi AA transition: 48-month SUB rule reset?

Apologies in advance if this has been asked before. My Barclays Aviator Red was automatically converted to a Citi AA Platinum Select. I'm looking to apply for a new Citi AA card for the sign-up bonus. Does this forced conversion lock me out of the Platinum Select SUB for the next 48 months?

If I canceled or downgraded my existing Citi AA card, would that have changed anything?

Thanks!

Data Point US Bank no longer using TU Rapid Default Model for CLI?

I recently applied for a CLI on my Smartly V1. Was denied, however the letter used a TransUnion FICO Score 10 - which was much higher than my TURD score. The only stated reason for the decision was "Account is currently past due". While this raises another issue - past due is factually incorrect - it's nevertheless notable that they use a new scoring method.
