Cartoon fans, I understand your concerns and struggles with the animation industry, especially with all the mergers, cancellations, layoffs, and other troubling developments we’ve witnessed over the years.
I understand why so many of you feel hopeless and pessimistic about the future, and why some of you might feel like giving up on the possibility of things ever getting better.
But I want to tell you something.
That isn’t the only path forward**.**
Recently, we lost the beloved Eric Bauza, and his passing broke the hearts of countless animation fans, including myself.
You know what one of the things I always admired about Bauza was?
He never gave up.
When *Coyote vs. Acme* was initially shelved, he didn’t simply throw in the towel. He fought tooth and nail for its release alongside the many other artists, filmmakers, and fans who believed the movie deserved a chance.
He continued advocating for the film, even when its future seemed uncertain.
And eventually, something wonderful happened.
**Coyote vs. Acme was released!**
Now, I’m not saying Bauza was solely responsible for saving the movie. Many people contributed to that effort, and there were undoubtedly other factors involved.
But his dedication was part of that larger fight, and in the end, the film he cared so deeply about finally reached audiences.
To me, that’s an inspiring reminder that even when something seems hopeless, the story isn’t necessarily over.
I can’t claim to know exactly what Eric would want us to do today. But his passion and perseverance inspire me to continue believing in the future of animation and fighting for the things that make this medium so special.
I understand that past efforts to save certain shows, revive beloved franchises, or improve the industry haven’t always been successful.
And I know that not every campaign will succeed, no matter how hard people work.
But just because something hasn’t worked before doesn’t mean improvement is impossible.
We can keep looking for new opportunities, supporting creators, advocating for better treatment of animation workers, encouraging original storytelling, and showing studios that audiences still care about this wonderful art form.
We can support independent animation while also wanting mainstream studios like Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Warner Bros. Animation to thrive.
We don’t have to choose between acknowledging the industry’s problems and believing that its future can be better.
**We can do both!**
So please, fellow animation fans, don’t let pessimism convince you that everything is already lost.
We may not be able to control every corporate decision, and we certainly can’t guarantee that every dream will come true.
But we can continue supporting the people and stories we love, celebrating the victories that do happen, and working toward positive change wherever we can.
We can bring hope back to the medium we love!
And as long as there are passionate artists, storytellers, and audiences who believe in animation, there will always be reasons to keep creating, keep advocating, and keep dreaming.
Dreams don’t have to die just because the road ahead is difficult.
Rest in peace, Eric Bauza. Thank you for reminding us how much animation is worth fighting for. ❤️
