News Travis Knight says that LAIKA will NEVER use generative AI in their films: “AI is theft. It’s the ingestion of years and years and years of human creativity and ingenuity, regurgitated back. It has no humanity. It has no spirit.”

Discussion Does anyone know Cheburashka?
Eu adoro! Tão melancólico e fofo.

Discussion Are we really debating this?
They sell merchandise and costumes of fictional murderers on Halloween yet in my 21 years of existing on this Earth I’ve never heard anyone complain.

Meme Why do parents have an issue with mature content in animation but have no problems when it's shown in anything live action like superhero movies?
Recently parents are getting angry that Wildwood had some violent content and mature themes that they think their kids wouldn't handle and that wasn't the first time something similar happened. I remember parents being offended over how dark and gritty Rango was despite being rated PG. I remember parents online have gotten concerned about taking their kids to go see The Boy and The Heron. I remember the same happened with The Lord of the Rings The War of the Rohirrim with one parent on a Reddit I remember seeing questioning how violent it is while also mentioning that their child is a huge Tolkien fan and that they watched the Peter Jackson movies. However when live action PG-13 rated films like the MCU show any mature themes parents don't have an issue taking their kids to go see it. I remember how common I see kids in screenings in live action superhero movies or other blockbusters and I remember seeing alot of kids in screenings of Predator Badlands and The End of Oak Street

Discussion Didn't know Elmore High School had the three colors resembling Anais, Gumball, and Darwin. 🩷🩵🧡
I just noticed that Elmore High's main color scheme features those three distinct colors representing Anais, Gumball, and Darwin, which is such a cool little detail. 🤔

Discussion Support the best in animation.
With Wildwood doing very well in cinemas and Coyote vs ACME beating the odds, it is more important now that we support good animation. Doesn't matter if it is made for movies or TV we need to support the genuinely great pieces of animation that is currently available from either America, France, Japan or any other country around the world.
It is so easy to watch something bad and criticse it, but the more you watch it, the more you are encouraging the people to who make it to produce more! Instead of watching crap for various reasons why not watch some true gems and make the entertainment industry open their eyes!
True art must not be wasted or ignored. It is time to give the gems of animation the recognition they rightfully deserve.

Discussion How come animated movies aren’t doing well at the BO this year?
Not sure if this is the right sub to ask but Hoppers, Forgotten island ,minions and, wildwood all flopped the only one that did well was Toy Story 5 and I’m not sure cat in the hat and Hexed will do any better. Is it cause the animation or the storylines aren’t as Engaging?

Discussion Instead of mourning, we should be celebrating their work and acknowledging the marks they've left in our lives
Look, I get that it's sad that all of these people died, but we really should stop wallowing in negativity because of it. People die eventually and we can't always do anything about it. So let's just appreciate what these people have done for the animation industry by bringing their talented and iconic voice work into our lives

Discussion Honestly if at least 3 of these are above decent and none of them are horrible than we might be looking at the best year for major animated movies since 2010.
For those who don't remember the other major animated movies
Sony Pictures Animation's GOAT
Pixar's Hoppers
Illumination's Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Angel Studio's Animal Farm (I think this counts, not certain (I remember people counting The Nut Job and Norm of The North as major animated movies so it probably does))
Skydance Animation's Swapped
Pixar's Toy Story 5
Illumination's Minions and Monsters
Nickelodeon's Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender
Paramount Animation and Spin Master's Paw Patrol The Dino Movie
Aardman's Shaun The Sheep:The Beast of Mossy Bottom
Dreamworks' Forgotten Island
Laika's Wildwood
