Question / Info How do you stay sober after some time?

Hello guys, I dont even know if this is the right place, just let me know. I was smoking weed since 10years and in the last years I got my diagnosis. CHS. I still couldnt stop smoking so I had endless phases of nonstop smoking until I really got fucked by endless vomiting etc. Into 1-3 Months sometimes only weeks of not smoking. Life felt great everytime when I was sober, but my main problem was always that I started thinking, I can smoke again. Felt amazing and I just cannot keep it that rare. I instantly go and get my own stuff after 1Joint with friends or sth and keep smoking until I feel Awful again. In addition I am drinking much more and feel much mkre open to other drugs like cocaine or ketamin.(I dont have a problem with other substances, Because nothing gets me the chill vibe I get from weed.) Because I feel like sth is missing.. So my question is, how do you guys stay sober after a period of time you already made sober? Have you made similar experiences with shifting that addiction to other drugs? thats my biggest problem and I just couldn’t do it in the last years. This time I am 100% committed to stay sober for a year but Im already scared of the future. I am on day 2 sober rn and feel awful but absolutely committed to stay sober for at least a year. I would appreciate some tips or your experiences 🙂
I hope you have a wonderful day and stay sober everyone! ❤️

Question / Info Experienced a possible hypoglycemic episode during prodromal CHS?

I foolishly thought I could handle a few small hits of a joint this weekend, and ended up putting myself back in the prodromal phase of CHS. I've been nauseous and uncomfortable for 2 days now but thankfully no vomiting so far.

Yesterday, I basically didn't eat the entire day due to the nausea. Later that night I suddenly ended up feeling super dizzy, could hardly even stand up straight, and broke out into a cold sweat with anxiety and super intense nausea. I ate a few Sour Patch Kids and about an hour later after laying in bed my body started to normalize, and since then I've been mostly okay (though still a little queasy from the prodromal CHS). Could this have been a hypoglycemic episode due to low blood sugar from going the entire day without eating? I'm not diagnosed diabetic, but even without diabetes apparently such episodes can trigger. Curious if others have had similar experiences.

Question / Info Does my experience sound like CHS? Anyone with similar experiences?

I started smoking weed in 2018 and smoked basically every day until December 2025. I was never a daytime smoker, only smoking from around 6 PM through the night, mostly using dab pens.

My experience:

One Friday in December 2025, I got home from work, took a few hits from my dab pen while eating Chick-fil-A, and started feeling sick shortly after.

  • I threw up 2-3 times that Friday.
  • For the next 2–3 days, I had constant nausea, dry heaving, and trouble eating or drinking. I'd wake up already feeling sick.
  • Nothing I took seemed to help. Hot showers felt nice, but I can't say they actually relieved the symptoms.
  • I went to the hospital on Sunday. Even after receiving two IVs, I still felt extremely dehydrated. The doctor suspected CHS and told me I'd essentially have to wait it out.
  • By days 4–5, the nausea started improving, but it took another 2–3 weeks to feel somewhat normal.

The aftermath:

I missed about 2–3 weeks of work because I'd get intense anxiety whenever I tried going back. I'd feel like I was about to pass out and was terrified of getting sick at work.

My digestion also hasn't felt quite the same since. I seem to be much more sensitive to digestive sensations, especially when I'm anxious. Sometimes it's like my anxiety immediately makes me need to use the bathroom.

My questions:

  1. Does this sound similar to your CHS experience? I'm wondering whether it really was CHS or possibly something related to the food I ate or a combination of the food and weed.
  2. Has anyone successfully returned to smoking in strict moderation, like 1–2 times per month? I miss smoking, and I genuinely believe I could stick to that frequency.
  3. I've read that subsequent CHS episodes can be worse than the first. Has that been your experience?
  4. Did anyone experience lingering anxiety or digestive issues for weeks or months afterward?
  5. I've read some users say that getting their health in order (eating healthy, daily exercise, etc.) has allowed them to return to smoking. Can anyone speak to this?

I should also mention that I have a couple of autoimmune conditions, including Celiac disease, which makes me wonder if those played any role.

I haven't smoked since the episode, but I do miss it. I'm not looking to convince myself that smoking again is safe, I know it's a gamble. I'm just curious about other people's experiences and whether anyone has gone through something similar.

Question / Info How long after smoking do symptoms typically occur?

Hello all, I'm concerned I might have CHS. This past Thursday night after smoking a copious amount, I tried to go to bed but my stomach started gnawing at me. I tried to ignore it but had to get up to puke around three in the morning. It was really just one bout of serious puking though, not a continuous cycle. After that my stomach continued to ache. I also experienced chills and sweats. The worst part for me though was feeling simultaneously tired and wired. I wanted to go to sleep so bad but I was too jittery. I couldn't function, I spent the next three days just skulking around my house. However, I kept what little I ate down the day after my vomiting spell. I puked again once on Saturday, after I ate some french fries. After those three days, my symptoms started to subside.

From what I've read, these symptoms are consistent with CHS. However, there are some complicating factors that make me unsure whether it actually is. For one thing, I recently started a GLP-1 and I'm also concerned my illness might be due to that. Directly, GLP-1s can cause vomiting and nausea as a side effect. The vomiting spells can apparently last for up to two days. One point against this though is that my vomiting came the night before my next dose. Typically people vomit on GLP-1s right after they've had their latest dose. I was about a week out from my last dose so the timing doesn't quite line up. However, I have heard that people can vomit later, but it's not as common.

Additionally, there may be a way that the GLP-1 indirectly caused my nausea. Because it works so well at suppressing my appetite and I had a concurrent family emergency that required my full attention, I ate very little to nothing at all the two days prior to my first vomiting bout. Very stupid but convenient in the moment. I think it's possible the lack of food in my stomach may have caused some kind of extreme heartburn or a level 2 hypoglycemic episode.

Since Sunday I've just been sticking to mild and simple foods, avoiding acidic drinks. I still feel a little bit of heartburn occasionally but much better overall.

So yeah, there are competing theories here. I've made an appointment with my PCP to follow up on this. But in the meantime, I was thinking about trying to run my own test. I was thinking of smoking a little bit from my vape and see if I start to experience symptoms. My question is, how long after smoking/vaping do symptoms typically occur? Is it fairly immediate or would I have to wait several hours for the onset? And if I only smoke a little to test, will my symptoms only be mild? Or would I revert to the state I was in last week?

Thank you all in advance.
