Economics Help me understand: UK Economics

Okay, I need this explained to me in simple terms cause it’s just something I don’t get. What does the British government need to do for businesses to hire more people, create more roles, create more hours and in particular, create a better way of life for everyone? Ultimately, I just don’t understand why, if they’re already in so much ‘debt’ anyway then why can’t they just keep it going? Now, I know it’s stupid but I just don’t get it. Why are they not doing anything but making us pay more bills and making life harder?
