Reminder: Please Flair Mourning Posts
Hey void-lovers!
Most cat subs have a very delicate balance between "happy posts about my cat" and "sad posts about my cat", specifically when it comes to pet death. A lot of them don't allow it at all. It's really tough to strike the balance of letting people who are devastated mourn the loss of their furry friend while still making the subreddit usable for people who aren't interested in that kind of content.
We allow mourning posts here, but you have to flair your post with "Mourning" so people who don't want to see them have the ability to filter them out. It's an imperfect solution, but it's all we have available to us with subreddit tools. Please make sure to flair all posts about pet loss with that flair so we can make a great sub for everyone.
In case you're someone who's interested in filtering out that content, this link should work for you. I know, it's not the cleanest way to browse the subreddit, and I'm not sure how it works on mobile. If we had a better solution, I'd provide it, but we have to work within what reddit offers us :(
Thanks for your understanding. If you've read this far, I encourage everyone to post some void laser eyes in the comments.

π€ meet my ordinarily named cat βLunaβ, who has an extraordinary life
Luna has gone through a whole lot in her life. Before adoption, she had to gain 2 lbs for her spaying. She would constantly fluctuate with weight, and never quite reach it until a month later the initial adoption date. Almost picked a fight with the older cat at the adoption site. 2 years later, she develops a bladder problem where she now has to eat special kind of food every day for the rest of her life. She had to go to several different vets until she got this diagnosis. Despite this, sheβs incredibly sweet and one of the kindest cats youβll meet. She just has so much love in her heart. And by God, sheβll give it to you.

Video π€ I am so proud of my Misia, she isn't afraid of toys anymore!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Misia is about 11 years old, don't know her true age, she sadly never knew what a home was before she was rescued. She lived in a parking lot where the guards used to feed her sometimes. She spent about a month hiding under a closet at her foster family, but slowly got more trusting. She used to be terrified of toys, even just booping a toy just some centimeters away made her hide somewhere.Β
I adopted her almost 4 months ago, she made crazy progress in that time. First I let her sniff a toy mouse, then saw if I could just poke the mouse to show her that movement was safe. So within a week she was comfortable with me poking the mouse. I slowly added movement every day, until I could fully swipe the mouse over the floor without her fleeing. I praised her a lot every time she seemed good with the movement, some chicken sticks helped a lot too.Β Β
Stick type toy thingies I thought she would never get used to. These used to induce utter panic in this poor sweetie. Just taking them and waving them around was a total no go. But look at this! Every time I introduced play time, I added some breathy sounds like hohohooo and chachachaaa so she would know, if I take this feathery stick, itβs for playing. So now she gets excited if she hears hohohoho and even starts waiting close to her toys. I am so so sooo proud of her and wanted to share her progress with you guys! My sweet Misia is such a brave girl, she adapted to being a housecat very well.
Her foster family is also very proud of her, I have been sending all progress videos to them as well, she is such a good girl and deserves the best!

Mourning Goodbye buddy
Just lost my five year old beautiful black boy named Monster. He was with me through 3 car accidents, 2 jobs, and multiple surgeries. He was the bestest boy (who could be very sassy at times lol) he loved his scratches and lived the best life we could give him. But now he crosses the rainbow bridge to go be with his brothers Goop and Xero. Bye Monster, you were awesome and Iβll miss you a lot!

π€ My Sweet Boy, Alex
It isnβt often that Alexander Hamilton sits still long enough for a photo. So, I took the opportunity to snap one. This is my sweet sober companion. I got him in the first weeks of my sobriety about 8.5 years ago. Although these days he is very much a daddyβs kitty.

π€ r/blackcats helped Jet get adopted!
About a week ago there was a thread here about black cats with no tails. I commented a screenshot of a cat at the shelter I had sponsored, Jet, who had been in the shelter since at least March. He had his tail amputated and he is a shy little love bug.
Another member of this sub saw him, and last Sunday she took him home!!! I got the pleasure of meeting her as I was already dropping off donations from my birthday party at the shelter. I am so happy that this sub helped get a wonderful kitty into an even more wonderful home. Wishing Jet the happiest life with his new family!!!
