Advice Struggling with same-sex attraction, my Christian faith, and my future

• Upvotes

I'm a 28-year-old man, and I've been struggling with some personal things that I don't really know how to talk about with people in my everyday life.

I'm an Ethiopian Orthodox Christian, and my relationship with God is important to me. I want to live a life that reflects my faith, and I've tried to practise celibacy. Sometimes I manage my sexual urges, but other times I masturbate even when I've decided not to. I feel relief afterward, followed by guilt and disappointment.

I'm also still attracted to men, and those feelings haven't disappeared. Part of me wishes they would, because I sometimes struggle to understand how my sexuality fits with my faith and the future I've always imagined.

I've dreamed of having a loving wife, children, a peaceful home, and a life centred on God. I'm afraid that my attractions and struggles with sexual urges will prevent me from having that future. I'm also worried about falling behind in life while trying to figure everything out.

I'm not posting because I expect strangers to solve my life or tell me what label I should use. I just want to hear from people who have experienced similar conflicts.

How have you learned to understand yourself while navigating faith, sexuality, sexual desire, and your hopes for the future? Have you found ways to move forward without living in constant guilt or fear?

I'd appreciate honest, compassionate responses. Thank you for reading.

Advice Help me understand urges and preferences and how to make it work

My partner (who is a bisexual man) and I (woman) have been together for a while. He came out to me at the beginning of our relationship. I recently learned that he heavily prefers penis over vagina and as much as I didn't wish it to happen, it ended up making me feel insecure. I managed to power through it and all was ok until he admitted he has strong urges for the things I am lacking and therefore can't sexually devote to me 100%. Emotionally however, he is devoted to me entirely, I can feel and see that everyday and we both are very satisfied on the romantic level, we are a perfect match.

He said I need to accommodate his needs by him watching porn and while I am not repulsed by that, I still feel insecure and don't quite understand how urges fundamentally "work". He mentioned that most of the times, he has strong urges for the other things MORE than he has urges to be with me in whatever sexual capacity. And that his sex drive for the other urges is higher.

My values are different than his in the sense that I devote myself to my partner 100% emotionally and sexually, because I choose to be with them over anything else. He said he doesn't think it needs to be that way, he sees romantic connection and sexual connection as separate things and tries to favour me as much as he can despite the urges. He also says that the romantic aspect matters the most to him in a relationship. I would agree to this, as I don't think the sexual connection is the most important to me either, but definitely matters more to me than to him.

We have good sex, but there's been a long period of time where my needs haven't been exactly met due to (in his response) low libido and the other stronger urges he has. We have talked about it and came to an agreement to have sex once a week but I'm not sure how to feel about it since I'm expecting a lot of those time we have sex to happen out of compromise and/or the responsibility he has to make me happy.

I really want to feel at peace with this and continue to put all my efforts into the relationship. We love each other very much and we both want nothing but to make it work.

I hope someone has good advice, thank you!

Advice Tired of the apps and reckless people. Would an unspoken, subtle signal in public actually work?

I’m sick of relying on apps where people have zero respect for boundaries. It feels like every other day you hear about someone dealing with drama or threats of exposure just because the person they met had nothing to lose.

I was talking with a buddy about how men who actually value their privacy, careers, and households need a better way to navigate this

What if there was a clean, high-end streetwear piece—like a structured black trucker hat or a heavyweight beanie—with a completely subtle, generic emblem (think simple tally marks or minimalist geometric stitching)?

To anyone outside, it just looks like a regular, rugged gym/streetwear brand. Zero rainbow aesthetics, zero giveaways. But between guys who know what's up, it acts as a quiet green light: I move in silence, I respect boundaries, and I have as much to lose as you do.

Be honest: would you actually rock something like that to spot like-minded men out in public, or is trying to take things offline still too risky?

How come two guys being in love or even kissing is seen as “gayer” than heteromantic guys literally having gay sex?

Technically nothing can be gayer than gay sex or sexual attraction towards men, even if it's purely physical and involves no attachment or emotions

Venting Struggling with Myself

I'm 25, and I finally admitted to myself a year ago that I'm bisexual. I knew it at 14, but I was so afraid of how people would treat me that I buried it. Told myself I'd just been curious and that it was a phase, that I was obviously straight because I'd only ever been with women. I got married at 22, and I love my wife dearly. But I've been feeling a lot of self loathing, because when I finally accepted this part of myself, I realized that I have this whole other side of me that I'll never get to explore. My wife is also bisexual, and she's been out for as long as I've known her, so she's very supportive. My friends have also been supportive (A close friend literally jumped around and hugged me and said "Dude thank you for trusting me enough to come out to me" and I cried), but I just can't stand that I denied myself for so long. That I will never get to explore this side of me, never have a real experience with another man, all because I was afraid. I've never been afraid to be myself in any other way, no matter what. But for some reason, this is the one thing I denied myself. I don't know how to get past it, how to forgive myself, and it's eating me up inside.

Does anyone else love lounging around hanging in skimpy underwear?

Its like the ultimate level of comfort. Hanging out wearing a thong and over sized long sleeve. Felt so cute and cozy, smooth legs

Once again women gate keeping haha

Question Bi but not poly

So the issue is that im bi and everytime it comes up it seems to pivot (more with female partners than male but not exclusively) if i would let another guy fuck me while they watch. Im very comfortable with who I am, but im a monogomous person so it's always a hard no. Im not interested in any outside party in a relationship.

I dont go out of my way to bring it up but I dont hide it either so I guess how do i navigate someone else's expectations without making doing things that id do under different circumstances.

How do I exist?

I’m M19 and I have just started getting comfortable with my sexuality and I recently came out to my two girl best friends at college. I’m still closeted from the world and everyone else around me and it is very scary. I guess my question is how do I even like exist in a world and find someone or people to connect with not even on a sexual level. I am truly just looking for someone who will just hold me and actually love me. I always catch feelings for straight men and I can’t even tell if they are actually straight but they don’t even know I’m bi. I’m seeing the predicament i’m in as i’m typing this out lol. My best friends told me try and test the waters with strangers from different states but I don’t even know how to do that. ANY advice is helpful thanks.

Genuinely serious question: For men age 30 and older, if you date a younger man, would you get mad if he calls you daddy even in a serious manner ?

I'm not in a relationship and I've never had a boyfriend before, but I lost my virginity last year and I still talk to the guy that took my virginity. He's 14 years older than me, and on text messages, I call him daddy, but not even in a joking way, but in a genuinely, I wanna be submissive to him way.

But it got me thinking, would any of you older men feel the ick if a guy did that to you ? I've always wanted to be submissive to an older man, and I know that lots of guys call their older partner daddy as a joke... but I be real serious about it too. Like idk. I like calling older men that because I want him to know that he controls me in the situation. But... how do the rest of you feel about it ?

I can't attend this weekend, but definitely will soon. If anyone wants to meet up and go together, just let me know.

Role model Mirror Boy captures the inner experience of growing up bisexual

I’m Jeremy Spiegel, the author of Mirror Boy, and while an overarching theme of my newly released coming-of-age psychological novel is simply that a boy needs a father, while depicting the frantic search for a solid male role model, I wrote the book, in part, to normalize all aspects of a young man’s sexuality almost incidentally, matter-of-factly and without the usual fanfare. Reviews to date confirm my intention was realized: “Mirror Boy explores the messy experience of growing up before we fully understand ourselves—when attraction, shame, and our emerging sense of masculinity are raw and confusing. Emotionally honest in its portrayal of trauma and resilience, the novel is a beautiful reminder that our deepest wounds often become portals to our greatest self-understanding and, ultimately, transcendence." -Robert Brooks Cohen Life coach, writer for Law & Order: SVU, and author of Bisexual Married Men: Stories of Relationships, Acceptance & Authenticity

Needless to say I and others around me hope the book takes off because bisexuality in men can take many, many forms, and often its outward expression may be subtle and hence confusing to others. As in all aspects of living a human life, psychology might influence the depth and character of the expression of masculinity, identity more broadly, and sexuality over the course of a man’s life.

I’d like to add that the book is raw and uncensored so geared towards a mature adult reader despite a nearly 17 year old protagonist. Also thanks to award-winning actor Fred Berman’s performance on the Audible audiobook, it’s a singular thrill to hear the innermost thoughts of the teenage character as he navigates the vexing circumstance of living in a chaotic, highly feminized household with his sexually prolific single mother and her revolving door of unsavory men.

I sincerely hope that at least some aspect of this sad/funny heartfelt and at times intense labor of love will resonate with you. Thank you for your interest. The book’s website with links to the audiobook and all retailers: Mirror Boy Book
