Evexia Webcam Mill Valley - Sausalito bike path

Given it is that time of year just wanted to share that Evexia gym has a webcam live feed where you can see the state of flooding/tides from their parking lot.

I’ve found it is a great complement to the King Tides app that has been shared here.

Bike lovers! What are your tips and tricks for getting around on your bike?

Bike lovers, bike commuters, anyone who gets around on two wheels!

I want to hear people's insider tips and tricks about using their bikes as a part of everyday life! The things you've figured out or learned along the way. Could be certain personal habits when cycling, useful accessories, favorite routes, recommended bike-friendly pit stops, literally anything bike-related you would share with a newbie getting into biking. Or something you wish you knew when you started.

I am doing my master's thesis on methods to help newcomers feel safer and more confident when starting out on their bikes! I thought a fun place to start might be the good people of Reddit. Thank you!!!

(posted on r/eastbay and reposting here to reach more bikers!)

Using Alta Trail to avoid flooding on Sausalito-Mill Valley bike path?

I got caught in the flooding yesterday on the Sausalito-Mill Valley bike path. It wasn't high tide but the area where the bike path crosses Pohono St (just north of where the seaplane docks) was flooded to about 6 inches.

I see there is a path called the Alta Trail that starts at the end of Donohue St. which could be used to go from the end of Bridgeway over to Hwy 1 without using the bike path.

Has anyone done this? Are bikes allowed on the Alta Trail? Is this a reasonable way to avoid the flooding on the bike path?

Marshlands Rd off Dumbarton bridge is just heinous

You know what I am talking about if you’ve ever ridden on it. Awful pavement, the roar of the freeway, swamp gas stench, headwind in both directions. Ugh. 😣

Trail Fairy Hero on Mt Tam (Old RR Grade)

I saw this on the weekend which I think is new since my last trip up Mt Tam. It's a fantastic public service.

Right after the start of the dirt section of Old RR Grade, the homeowner on the edge of the trail has set up an ad-hoc help station with water, air, tools, first aid. Bravo. (Fortunately I didn't need it... this time)

Stolen REI Co-op CTY 1.1 Bike

My bike got stolen Saturday morning, October 24, between 9:00 AM and 10:50 AM near Burbank in Stern Hall at Stanford University (618 Escondido Rd, Stanford, CA 94305). I filed a police report with Stanford University Department of Public Safety, and registered it stolen on Bike Index & Project 529 Garage. It's a light green REI Co-op CTY 1.1 Step-through bike. It has a rear bike rack & basket, a white bell, a phone holder, and two stickers. Can anyone keep an eye out for it? If you have any information regarding my bike's whereabouts, please let me know!!

Group ride recs

I’m a somewhat beginner female cyclist in decent shape wondering which group rides the community would recommend! I can ride up hawk and do solo rides around the city regularly and hoping to make some biking friends!

Tall (6'6") rider ISO gravel bike

Like the title says, I'm tall and been riding road most of my life. Want to get a gravel bike, something w/ drop bars and disc brakes. Room for 40mm+ tires ideally. 61–64cm, XL, or 2XL. $800-1500 budget would be great.

Wasn't sure if this was the best place to post, I also posted on craiglist/fb marketplace. Any advice would be helpful if you have any! Thanks in advance.

PSA: hidden pothole on bridgeway middle lane in Sausalito

Post image
44 Upvotes

hi everyone, I had a pretty bad spill today in Sausalito after trying to get into the middle lane (a bad idea in hindsight). There’s a hidden pothole that’s really difficult to see until you’re over it. Saw another cyclist almost lose it too immediately after.

You’ll miss it as long as you stick to the road, but wanted to give a heads up!

Lycra repair in the East Bay?

Hey all, I stuffed my jersey pockets a little too full of snacks and tools, and now have a rip between the middle pocket and the main jersey fabric.

Anybody have a good alteration/repair shop working with stretchy fabric that they like? I've tried to go to Narain's by REI in Berkeley, they said they do not do stretchy fabric (only nylon, tent type stuff).

Thank you!

How to report bike detector at traffic light not working? [Berkeley]

Westbound on Bancroft at Sixth street in Berkeley at ~5-6pm today.

Waited for two rounds of the signal skipping us (but seemingly triggering the Eastbound light for straight and protected left getting a green light), then went when it was safe.

Looking for cycling route recommendations South peninsula and east bay

I’m looking for a beautiful 30–40 mile loop south of the Peninsula with around 4,000 ft of climbing for next weekend! I typically ride Portola Valley, La Honda, and out toward the coast, but I’m looking to switch things up and explore somewhere new.
Any favorite road biking routes with beautiful scenery, challenging climbs, and good roads? Would love to hear your recommendations or share ridegps routes

I would love to know if there are any good bike parks or trail systems that are good for winter, as the Bonneville Shoreline Trail is horrific in the winter

Any South Bay parents riding MTB with their toddlers? Thinking of starting a family riding group.

Hey everyone!

I'm a dad in San Jose who started taking my little guy, Carbon, on bike adventures using a Kids Ride Shotgun seat.

We're not hardcore mountain bikers. We enjoy scenic trails, redwood forests, creeks, exploring nature, and stopping somewhere beautiful for a picnic.

We've been riding mostly around Alum Rock, Vasona park, hellyer park, and exploring other parts of the Bay Area, and I've been wondering whether there are other parents doing something similar.

I'm thinking about starting a casual South Bay Kids Ride Shotgun / Family MTB group where parents can meet up for easy rides, share family-friendly trails, and let the kids enjoy being outdoors together.

Nothing competitive. No crazy downhill riding. Just parents, kids, bikes, fresh air, picnic and maybe some BBQ on weekends.

Are there other South Bay parents interested in something like this? And where do you usually take your little ones riding?

Would love to hear from you!

West Sonoma County Group Ride Round 2 Nov 7th

Post image
3 Upvotes

We posted a couple weeks ago about a new monthly group ride covering some of the best roads in the whole Bay Area in West Sonoma County. We’re running it back on Saturday November 7th this time with ride support from Bike Monkey, the team behind Levi’s Gran Fondo.

This is the perfect opportunity to ride these remote roads with a group or make a fall weekend out of it in the Russian River valley. Check out here for highlights from the last ride and to RSVP for the next one!

Can anyone recommend roads in Big Basin? As we come up 236 from bottom of Jamison Creek Rd, I’m not sure whether to climb China Grade, Lodge rd, Sky Meadow (out n back), or North Escape. Thanks!
