Let's Discuss Anyone else also buying nothing from Mecca ?

I’m not wowed by the new Christmas gifts and newbies. Im choosing not to buy anything new. I was wanting to discuss if anyone else felt the same. I like summer Fridays lip glosses but why would I spend half a grand on a box of every type, some of the too faced items have peaked my interest but nothing is spectacular enough.

But the Victoria Beckham Skin Tint really is good.

I bought this gift set because I already have the Cocoa eyeshadow and pencil. But I hadn't tried anything else because Mecca never has my shade in stock.

Well I'm trying to shop less at Mecca and VB does 15% off your first order. So I got the olive set and tried a skin tint.

I've got middle aged skin, no real wrinkles and a bit of texture. I have used almost every foundation, recently doing Guerlain but often just default to the Westman Atelier tint. I like how WA looks but hate the texture, smell and OMG I HATE THE PACKAGING.

Well, people aren't lying. This went on well, stayed on (and it's 85% humidity and 27c today) and made it just "my skin but better." I will admit, I didn't shake it enough out of the box and it pilled. I did my skin care about 2 hours earlier, so it wasn't a bad mix. So I gave it like 2 min shake and it went on really well.

Apparently this also improves your skin but we will see. I bought a small trial kit of the Augustinus Bader and feel it does nothing. My tret and Caudalie is better.

Also, watch out on that mascara. It's so heavy, you could knock someone out with it. Like the tube is heavy, you wouldn't want to drop it on your toe.

Product Advice needing help building a simple skin prep routine

So I really am not good with face make up, but these products are the only ones I use for both bases depending on where I’m going so I would like help with getting (preferably affordable) skin prep products that are compatible with both base. 2nd image is me with the foundation on after a whole day out, a problem I face a lot that you can see in the image is both the sides of my nose and the top of it are quite patchy.

I think I have dry skin so any products for that would be good, and I also sweat veryyy easily, especially from the forehead so would love advice on that. I’ve seen some stuff around the 3B face saver for sweat but have yet to try it and I’m not sure how well it works.

Product Advice Light gradual tan recommendations?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Tried out the Bali Body Gradual Tan yesterday and, unfortunately on me, there's nothing gradual about it!

I'm already too dark after one application so I'm looking for any recommendations of something genuinely light to fix a horrible tan line before a wedding next weekend.

(Also any suggestions on how to reduce the colour would be great - going to use a sugar scrub before bed tonight as a starting point.)

Thanks!

Misc. Lash lifts + Lash extensions

Wasn’t sure which sub to ask this question to however I’ve got lashes on one eye which generally point downwards, I’ve never gotten lash extensions (I’ve had lash lifts done before) but I was thinking about getting them done for a weekend away.

I’m horrible at putting on my own lashes so I wanted to do the whole lash extension thing but I wasn’t sure if I was better off getting a lash lift done first, waiting 2 weeks and then getting lash extensions or would a lash stylist be able to work with my lashes? I don’t want anything heavy just a classic set.

Bonus points if anyone knows of any great lash places in Adelaide.

Thanks 💛

Let's Discuss Be careful - Mecca pricing not accurate!

Just because Mecca has dropped their gifting selection wanted to make sure people are looking at the details. I was looking at this duo and realised the individual items were cheaper and the product details had savings listed when there were none.

The overall price was completely wrong, I’ve also let Mecca know and they’re amending pricing (apparently within the week) but just a good reminder for us to always double check before adding to cart!

Product Advice Help from fellow shorter hair girls: Should I get an air styler?

My lovely mum (bless her) bought me one of those cheap air wrap rip offs last year and I had a play with it & I liked the concept but this one is very cheap & has no way near enough power for my hair plus the curls do not hold.
I’ve just chopped my hair to an above shoulder bob and I’m debating whether to invest in either the shark or Dyson model. Do they actually have decent blowing power? (I have thin hair but a lot & I need some power to eliminate frizz). Also, are the brush attachments decent (the cheap model I have now are rubbish - the bristles are sparse and plasticy so don’t have the grip I like in a round brush to smooth).
And do the curls hold on these more expensive models? Or is a curling iron better still?
Am I better off just getting a new hair dryer, straightener and curler?

Note that I know how to use a round brush and do a proper blow dry with brush and hair dryer (I know quite a few struggle with this). So is this the main selling point of the air wraps that it makes the volume blow dry possible for those that can’t do it the traditional way?

Customer Service Need to vent on my poor customer service at Sephora NZ

So this past weekend I was in Auckland (which is 8 hours from where I live and we don’t have Sephora). I had popped into Sephora Newmarket to have a little shop and I had brought the Rare beauty best selling faves 4 piece set that you had advertised for $79 - which it was displayed as that price instore.

Whilst I was getting this, I also asked to redeem my points where I had about 500 points to spend. They had different items displayed in iters that said 100 points, 200 points and 250 points. There was one item that I wanted that was in the 100 point section. The lady that dealt with me was named (we shall call her X) and she told me that I can’t have it as it’s not 100 points, but if it isn’t, why is it not in the 200 points section, and she just completely ignored what I said.

I then went to pay for my rare beauty products and it charged $89NZD. I then questioned why it says it instore as well as online as $79NZD and she said there might be a sale online to make it that price. I said there is no sale tho and she said she won’t honour the price, even though it was priced that instore and online and refused to acknowledge it. She was not budging at all to change the price as it was clear it was incorrect and all she did was have an attitude with me.

She then had the audacity to then was gossip infront of me to co worker Y about myself saying “that girl has the nerve to complain about what points the rewards are worth, girl should be happy because she’s getting them free”. Right infront of me. It was awful behaviour, getting ripped off of my purchase by $10 and refusing to price is the correct price.

Now I am no longer in Auckland I have made a complaint to Sephora as I thought it was be so simple to refund me the difference. Oh no it isn’t. They are telling me I need to go back to the store I got it from and get the refund instore as it is a store issue?!! Regardless if it was, how the hell am I meant to do that as I live in a completely different city.

I said this to them and I asked how long do I have to get my money back and they then told me 30 days?! I don’t see how they have the nerve to put a time limit on an issue their store created and penalise me essentially for trying to get my refund. They are also refusing to give me a gift card instead and the only resolution they may come to is to see if the store would be able to extend the 30 days refund until I’m up there with my family for Christmas.

I just find this absolutely appalling left right and centre!!!

Product Advice Sunscreen that doesn't cause pilling?

Hey y'all, really hoping to get some help here :( Have tried a few sunscreens and different foundations now and keep running into the issue of the makeup pilling really badly when put over sunscreen. I've tried waiting for the sunscreen to dry for as long as I can (sometimes up to 15 - 20 minutes) and yet I still have the issue.

These are the different products I've tried/use regularly:

Sunscreens:

- La Roche Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF 50+

- Biore UV Aqua Rich Lightweight Moisturiser SPF50 Sunscreen Lotion (current sunscreen)

- Cetaphil Daily Defence Cream SPF 50

Foundations:

- BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Skin Perfecting Tint (main foundation)

- Sheglam Skinfinite Hydrating Foundation (new one I'm trying)

Primer:

- Stila One Step Correct Primer

- e.l.f. Cosmetics Tone Adjusting Green Primer

- Sheglam Triple Threat Correcting Primer (main primer)

Concealer:

- e.l.f Camo Color Corrector (main colour corrector)

- Sheglam like magic concealer (main concealer)

I appreciate any advice or information that y'all can help me with! <3

Let's Discuss KJH brand

Does anyone think we will get khj brand in Australia soon? My theory is that it’ll get picked up by Mecca as Katie has been using some Mecca products on her social media lately! The blush stick and lip liners are what I’ve noticed.

I was going to do an order using a forwarding service but I think I’ll wait until the new year and see what happens 🤞🏻

Product Advice Hair gloss recommendations!

Wanting to give my hair a freshen up. Done a bit of research into hair glosses but mostly just finding American products. What are some available at Salon Warehouse/Mecca?

I have untreated, fairly long and thick, dark blonde/“caramel” kinda hair - I don’t mind if the gloss gives it a bit of colour.

The Josh Groom one seems up my alley but I’ve seen mixed reviews - so not sure!

Thanks everyone

Product Advice Thoughts on the essence silky blur concealer?

I've been seeing only mixed reviews about it and i'm unsure if its good or not. Some say its dry and cakey while others say its good. For those who have used it, what are your opinions? Because if it's true that it leaves cakey, im better off trying the nyx bare with me concealer instead

And can you use it if you want a natural/semi natural look or is it very high coverage and wont look good with a natural base? Thanks!

Let's Discuss Sephora birthday gift fully redeemed?

Hey make up lovers! First post so sorry if this is not allowed. Like many on here, I am becoming very disillusioned with Mecca due to the decline in BL reward quality (see posts re recent L3 BL box and changes to birthday gift options) and business tactics generally (those exclusivity contracts?!).

I signed up for Sephora this week, my birthday week, and went to place an order to redeem the birthday gift, only to find it is 'fully redeemed' for my tier (white)! So disappointing, I can't help having a birthday in Oct! I guess my question is, is this a known issue with Sephora? Are you otherwise happier shopping at Sephora over Mecca, or should I just try buying from brands directly?

EDIT: I contacted Sephora online and they told me to go in-store to check, as they didn’t have visibility of when online stock would be replaced. No offer of additional points or replacement gift, though I suppose I’ve technically only been a member since Monday 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ I will say, their customer service team have a nice manner at least!

Review $2.49 concealer

Thumbnail

The very first picture is about 9am, only the concealer, no primer or powder. The second two were 6pm, no touchups and a day of oily skin and sweat. It did separate a little around my smile lines, which I do find to happen alot, especially when I'm very oily, like today. I'm honestly really happy with it, the price is great, and it performs pretty well. It's not insane coverage, but I'm sure I could build it up. The shade range is not great, afaik, but if you can find your shade, I'd recommend trying it.

It is the W7 oh so sensitive concealer, in the shade light cool. It's a bit light on me, but it's not horrible. Also, it doesn't oxidise.

I am very keen to try this foundation. Does anyone know where I can access a ‘find my match’ tool? None of the usual places have one yet and I can’t swatch in person.
Thanks 😊

Let's Discuss Did NARS reformulate their tinted moisturiser?

Am I going crazy?

I was using the shade Finland and it was perfect, had a bottle I picked up at the beginning of this year.

Picked up a new bottle last week and it’s completely different? Different finish, COMPLETELY different shade, even a different consistency.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Let's Discuss Makeup and Over-Ear Headphones... bad combination?

I've been wanting to buy my first pair of nice over-ear headphones for a while now, but besides the price, i've been hesitant because I'm not sure how practical they are when wearing makeup.

Does makeup get all over the ear cushions? is it relatively easy to clean, or is it absolute nightmare? Are there any secret makeup tips/tricks to avoid transferring makeup onto them?

To make matters worse, I just so happen to only like/want the silver-coloured headphones 😭

I pretty much only wear headphones when i'm wearing makeup so if it's a bad combo I most likely won't get them.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated! 😊

first pic is everything i purchased, and the second is what was in the goody bag!!!!

- super duper excited for the natasha denona palette, colour story is beautiful and i cant wait to make looks using it!!!
- the sephora scalp serum sample is an abysmal example of terrible packaging, that tiny little cup does NAWT need that much cardboard
- the one size set wasnt part of the sale but it seemed like such a great deal i had to grab it!!!!! super excited to try out the setting spray
- rare beauty hand cream is gonna be a bday gift for one of my friends, what a bargain
- fenty highlighter was such a good deal too!!!!! seems a little out there in terms of colour for a highlighter but im excited to experiment with it

now onto the goody bag
- dont let the size of the box confuse you, the sunscreen tube is much much skinnier than iwas expecting lmao but it seems nice to just put in a bag
- the haus labs samples are a bit useless to me, ive already got a full size in my shade, i think i just hate these blister type samples 🫩🫩
- milk primer!!! didnt realise this would be in the goody bag so now ive got a double haha but im looking forward to seeing if its any good
- rare beauty exfoliant, havent made up my mind about it yet
- MERITTTTTTTT im so happy this was in here, its such a hefty sample too!!!! tons of product, rhe colour isnt something i go for usually its a bit too berry but this’ll help me consider whether i want to buy more from them!
- super duper excited to try out the makeup by mario lippy and the hourglass blush, rhese are my first forays into these brands!

have a second order on its way, managed to get the fenty body milk and one of the onesize trio blushes too heheheh

Let's Discuss Sephora sale

Help
I struggled and struggled trying to place my order this morning in the Sephora sale and I thought it must've just been because the website was busy. I tried to put my cart thru multiple times and sometimes it would just restart the website and wipe my cart but a few times it let me get to pay and then Apple Pay was saying "payment failed". Then would wipe my cart and take me to the home page. So I kept trying to place my cart and finally got thru after typing the bank card in it gave me the order confirmed.
Now half hour later I check my emails and it's actually gone thru 3 times 😭 so now I've got three of the same order and taken the money 3 times. There's no phone number to call?? Help any advice please. My first time buying from Sephora too mind you 😭😭😭 never again

Review Falling in love with this again 💕

Post image

Stop using the Golden Glow for some reason and recently pick them up again I remember how much compliment I’ve got then and now whenever I use it, even Sephora staff took a sample of them after compliment my skin and I told her what I’m wearing! I really hope they’ll come out with NO FRAGRANCE one. At this point I don’t understand why do we need fragrance on skincare and makeup.

And I picked Pretty in Zinc last week and wow! If you’re struggle with white cast with zinc product, this is your solution. Not a single white cast and going to be forever buying these two.

Also, question…even before the “spf gate” I don’t understand why people love Ultra Violette. I literally left my other UV on purpose in the villa on our last trip because I could not stand it. I bought the tiny little bottle - 3 in a box from Sephora and hate all of them. And I bought the mini mate because it’s easier to carry in my handbag but still absolutely despise it.

Another brand that I love using lately…haruharu wonder. Their moisture Airyfit is lovely just like moisturiser and the Pure Mineral do give me white cast but I use it indoor.

Hamilton will always be in my vanity for cheap easy option, still.

I had my skin analysis last week and I barely have hyperpigmentation (other than when I pick my skin or acne PIH) and sun damage. I’m 37.
