In this bit from Asterix and the Goths, the English version translates this joke as "Look! It's a pair of Visigoths!" "Visi Goths? Why the past tense?" as a Latin grammar pun. In the original French, however, the exchange is «C'est les Goths!» «Célégo?»

Does any French-speaking Asterix fan know the context behind this? Thanks!

I read these books all the time as a kid in the 90s and there were always a few things I always noticed and wondered about, but obviously without the internet answers were impossible to come by. Now that I’m reading them to my kids I figured I’d ask:

1. I’m reading Asterix the Gaul out of this collection that I think was printed in 1993. I imagine it was sold in America but my Irish parents gave it to me and we used to visit there so it’s possible that’s where we picked it up. Anyways, the coloring is all wonky - some pages are so purple at the beginning (first picture) it feels like a mistake. The romans start as pink and purple and later in the same story are yellow and a darker shade of purple. And then some panels are either entirely or almost entirely shaded in a single color (2nd and 3rd). This feels more like a stylistic choice? Or maybe a time saving thing?
2. Sometimes in some of the other books I have you’ll occasionally see the French text underneath the English text as if someone tried to erase the French and printed the English on top of it. I’m just curious why these artifacts show up sometimes. See last 2 pictures
3. There is a lot of Latin in some of these books - was this a super common subject in schools at the time?

The romans would have easily beaten them if they would have used bow and arrow. Yes, even Obelix. He's tough, but not invincible! Am i right?

On the one hand, I love that it gives an explanation on why it's dangerous for Obelix to drink too much magic potion and it gives us an adventure with high stakes. On the other hand, I'm not a fan of the part where they go to Atlantis which turned out to be a magic place with centaurs and flying cows. Does anybody else feel the same way ?
