Meta [META] Please - STOP POSTING HUMAN MEDICAL QUESTIONS - r/AskVet is for animal health – Not human medical advice

Every day we get multiple posts from people asking what they should do after being bitten, scratched, or otherwise injured by animals. These posts do not belong here and just create a lot of unnecessary work for the mod team, who have to review and remove each one manually.

Do not post here asking:

  • If you need rabies shots
  • Whether you should be concerned about an animal scratch or bite

This subreddit is for veterinary advice not human health. If you’ve been bitten, scratched, or otherwise exposed to wildlife or stray animals, please contact a doctor or go to urgent care or the ER.

Odd Oncology Case

• Upvotes

Curious if any oncologists are in here, have an interesting case. 11yo female aussie, dual mdr-1.

Dog presented with multicentric lymphadenopathy with severe lethargy, was walking fine. FNA of multiple nodes, fc negative, pathology negative, labs/ck normal. Imprimed study only 2% above range for small/med cd21+. Prediction panel showed Clorambucil as most successful. Put on 30mg pred+one round of clorambucil.

2-3 day immediate elimination of lymphadenopathy with vast improvement. Next visit, rapid decline of proprioception, clubbed walking, etc. Suspect advancing cns lymphoma, patient administered 2 rounds of cyterabine. Normal labs, patient returns in one week with severe loss of mobility, liver enzymes indicate discontinuation of chemo. Dog is put on enzyme support, sent home for palliative care, 20mg daily pred. Dog improves dramatically over 4 weeks, active, happy, high food interest, no return of lymph symptoms, showing improvement in walking and mobility, but losing continence and hind quarter strength.

Dog has now severe hind quarter weakness and cannot get up without assistance, but walks once up and shows great overall health improvement. Curious if there is something we missed, or if anyone has any ideas or suggestions. Difficult to euthanize with such an ambiguous set of diagnostics so far. Appreciate any advice or ideas.

Stepped on 4 month old kitten.

• Upvotes

I was picking toys off the couch and leaned back on my foot and heard my cat make a noise I have never heard before. She basically flew up the stairs and looked at me. I’ve seen her eat just waiting to make sure she can use the restroom ok. I’m worried I really hurt her. She’s playing , but I have no idea where my heel landed on her. Should I rush her to the emergency room? She’s been really good today and I feel like I ruined our relationship.

Solved Help! My dog ate some of my supplement, will he be okay?

I have a 7 year old (~60lb) golden retriever who's very food motivated. Today when I was taking one of my supplements, I poured out today's dosage and distractedly set it on my kitchen counter. I went to grab a cup of water and when I came back my dog was up on the counter. Before I could stop him he snarfed down the capsules (and a couple fish oil capsules).

Here are the supplement facts: https://imgur.com/AOJ11LN

  • Zinc 30mg
  • Copper 4mg
  • Lecithin 1200mg
  • L-Citrulline 400mg
  • Bromelain 300mg
  • Pigeum 250mg

This happened about a half hour ago. He's not showing any signs of distress. Just as a happy, go-lucky, and dumb as normal.

My intuition is that he'll be fine and looking around a little it seems like the major concern would be the zinc, but the dose seems like it's low enough. I'm not worried about the fish oil.

Will he be okay? Should I take him to a vet? Or just keep an eye on him...?

3rd year DVM student with moral distress about giving a certain drug. Am I being unreasonable?

Tl;dr: I’m increasingly uncomfortable giving bedinvetmab and want to know what the consensus is, whether any unbiased safety literature exists, and how to decline politely.

I’m a 3rd year DVM student (not in the USA) and a registered vet nurse since 2022. I was working in practice when bedinvetmab launched. It was marketed as a miracle drug, and our clinic promoted it heavily and moved many OA patients over from pentosan. Soon after, I started hearing anecdotes from other clinics about sudden deaths, neurological signs and fractures, though I found little peer-reviewed literature at the time.

The past 3 years I have worked at another rural mixed practice who seem to give this drug out like hotcakes. Instead of starting patients on pentosan or other tried and tested therapies, they are being put straight onto Bedinvetmab.

This semester my pharmacology lecturer gave a harrowing lecture and pointed me to Farrell et al. (2025). He thinks it has significant flaws but also a number of valid points, and his view is that the drug should be a last resort, where euthanasia is among the only alternatives, given the potential for such catastrophic ADRs and "joint annihilation". Opinion pieces I have read over the years said virtually the same thing. My predicament is that the clinics I nurse at over summer don’t share this view. Bedinvetmab is given to about 5 patients a day, with almost no pentosan bookings.

Today I am on placement (at a completely different hospital to where I have previously worked). I was asked to administer this injection to a 3yo Lab with mild carpal OA; no X-rays, just a musculoskeletal exam. She has never been seen for OA before. Her owners were a lovely couple who have essentially committed to life long bedinvetmab, and I feel kinda sick about it.

  1. Am I being hysterical?
  2. Is there unbiased literature supporting its safety?
  3. If my concerns are valid, how do I decline to administer it at work or on placement? I feel strongly about it, but am willing to be redirected. I am fully aware of my inexperience and blatant nievety, so I would never want to outright question a mentors selected treatment, or have my words/attitudes perceived in that way.

Stray cat I took in tested positive for FIV, anemia, low blood cell count, and she’s skin and bones. Would it be kinder to let her go?

ETA: She actually has FeLV, not FIV. So sorry for any confusion.

Hello, I’m in the US and just took in a female stray from my work with the hopes of giving her to a family member that’s looking for a cat. She a female, spayed, super sweet, and currently ridiculously happy to be indoors. She had been living in a warehouse lot at my workplace site for the past couple of years where’s she’s been fed by employees for years, but given how tame she was I was always hoping I could find her a home.

I took her to the vet yesterday for her shots and blood work, and the prognosis my vet gave me is grim. She tested positive for FeLV which is most likely late stage, since shes also anemic and has a very low blood cell count. My vet didn’t recommend euthanasia immediately, just said it might be the kindest option, and that judging by the lab results she would be shocked if kitty made it past another year or two.

Obviously I’m fucking devastated. I can’t keep her in my house long term, I already have two other cats and under no circumstances do I want them to get FeLV. I would love to get her somewhere that could give her end of life care for as long as she’s alive, but that’s looking pretty unlikely atm. I think what’s getting me the most is that she seems happy, she’s purring and pooping normally, and I genuinely thought she was healthy but just malnourished at first. She is breathing a bit heavily and she didn’t finish her food, but maybe I’m just hyper vigilant because I know she’s sick. She’s very much underweight, which I was a bit concerned about from the beginning because while she is a stray my workplace has been providing a pretty regular source of food for a while now.

I just don’t want her to suffer or be in any pain, I’d much rather she pass somewhere warm and comfy and feeling safe. I’d appreciate any advice anyone can give me.

Decreased grooming and Mats in Cat

• Upvotes

Hi All,

I noticed my cat 10 year old female spayed short hair domestic cat looking a little haggard over the last week, I thought it was just because the seasons are changing in Canada but tonight I found a loose mat on her lower back.

She let me work it out with my fingers. Her annual checkup happens in Jan. Is this a sign that I should bring her in early or can I just start brushing her to help her out and discuss it with my vet in Jan?

She has been getting get focal seizures since November 2025 which are fully controlled on once daily 0.14ml liquid phenobarb 5ml/25ml ratio.

At her last checkup her teeth were perfect but the vet did notice early signs of arthritis. So is this something that she should be seen now for or something I can manage on my own by brushing her? If she is no longer grooming does that mean she is in pain and should be on pain meds?

I’ve had cats my whole life but have never had ones with mats before so not sure how I should react as Google had very mixed results.

Younger vets not so good with social skills?

I apologise in advance because I know this sounds judgemental, I’m really not trying to offend anybody I’m just curious.

Unfortunately in recent months we’ve become quite regular visitors of our local vet clinic (dog has chronic arthritis, senior cat was recently diagnosed with CKD) and I’ve noticed something strange. All the older vets who have worked there for decades are super friendly, smiley, kind, attentive and go out of their way to ensure we feel happy with their care. However I’ve noticed that all of the younger vets (freshly out of uni) we’ve encountered just seem to have zero people skills whatsoever - no smile, no eye contact, no fussing of our pets and a sort of awkward bluntness when discussing things and rush to get us out as quickly as possible. It sort of just feels like I’m an inconvenience. I know they’re absolutely rushed off their feet and don’t get enough time in the designated appointment slots.. But this doesn’t seem to bother any of the older vets so I can’t work out why it feels so different with the younger ones.

I know it shouldn’t really matter how they treat humans but from my side of things it makes me feel less inclined to trust them as much when we don’t even have eye contact.

Missing fur patch/nose scratch?

• Upvotes

My cat (10f spayed, ~15lbs, outdoor/indoor kitty) recently came home missing a patch of fur on her face and a couple days later her nose seemed to have a scratch? We haven’t been letting her outside because we assumed she was in a fight of some kind, but the patch of missing hair and hurt nose is worrying me. For context, she has had minor breathing problems in the past (kitty asthma) which caused her to have sniffling fits from time to time so i’m nervous that this flare up is related to that? Any idea of what this might be? I’m aware it is very likely she was just in a fight with another cat/animal, but I want to know if it may be something more serious.

(also i can’t figure out how to post a photo with this, but if i figure it out i will add one)

Solensia is not helping arthritis and we are desperate.

• Upvotes

Hi there! My cat has arthritis and a major reaction to Solensia. Is there another medication that can help with arthritis? We don't know what to do. 😭 The vet we go to tells us we have to choose whether we want her to be pain free or be on extra medication for itching as well. I can't keep on giving her 10000 different medications. :(

  • Species: Cat
  • Age: 10
  • Sex/Neuter status: Female/Spayed
  • Breed: Scottish Fold
  • Body weight: 7 lbs
  • History: Arthritis
  • Clinical signs: solensia is causing her to scratch and lick her skin until it bleeds. She keeps on getting infected because of that.
  • Duration: 1 year
  • Your general location: Colorado
  • Links to any test results, X-rays, vet reports etc. that you have: N/A

Please help.

Dog Flea Allergy? (My dog is miserable)

Hello, my dog is 10 years old, about 30-40lbs (mixed breed). He has been dealing with flea allergies for over a year now. We also have 2 cats one of which my mom lets outside (despite me protesting), and I believe he brings fleas inside. Though the allergy seems to be year round for my dog. We get prescription flea medication for all of them.

Despite this my dog is biting and scratching all the time, he is absolutely miserable. He forces everyone to scratch him, rubs himself all over furniture in an attempt to scratch hard to reach places, and he's missing patches of fur all over himself. At this point I want to wash him with flea shampoo but I don't want to risk harming the cats.

Every time we take him to the vet we mention this issue, and they brush it off as a flea allergy that will go away. I have asked about allergy medication to ease his symptoms but they brush it off. I feel so bad because he also wakes up from his sleep from it, sometimes even yipping then furiously scratching.

I've tried to see if maybe it's a chicken allergy aggregating it but it only helps a little and he HATES chicken only kibble.

I'm not sure what to do anymore. He can't have any peace and I'm sure lack of sleep isn't helping in his advanced age. Any ideas on what I could try?

Bitch Short Seasons

• Upvotes

Hi All,

I have a 2.5 year old Bernese who is coming in to season roughly every 4.5 months.

Is there any advice you can give regarding next steps, tests, medications etc?

I am prepared to remove her from my breeding program, but wanted to rule out any treatable causes first.

Thank you!

Mysteriously medically complicated 10.5 year old dog with trembling, diarrhea, mild fever, and brief collapse/syncope – what diagnostics should we pursue next?

• Upvotes

Signalment/location:

10.5-year-old male, neutered, mixed-breed (pit/cur/pug/pom) dog, approximately 30 lb. St. Louis, Missouri.

Relevant medical history:

- Previous pancreatitis flare in December/January. Confirmed by ultrasound. Treated on an outpatient basis with Cerenia, zofran, sq fluids, buprenorphine. Started on Hill's Rx low-fat i/d food.

- During ultrasound, they saw elongated lymph nodes. Did aspiration and cytology. Diagnosed him with Large B Cell Lymphoma.

- Started supportive therapy comprised of prednisone 20mg qd and famotidine 20mg qd.

- Early April: Chronic moderate, normocytic, hypochromic and mildly regenerative anemia; hematocrit around 27%. Assumed this was due to cancer progression. Did not treat in April. Reticulocytes were high. Most recent hematocrit (Late August) was 31% after 2-3 weeks on oral iron supplementation.

-July: First episode of collapse/stroke/syncope. Fell face forward and then to the side immediately after pooping. Was down for a few seconds, stood up, and was wobbly. Regained full functioning within 1 minute. No paddling, no postictal signs, did not lose bladder or bowel control or consciousness.

- Early August: Second episode of collapse/stroke/syncope. Laying in bed, sat up and started waving head around like he was seeing things that weren't there, horizontal nystagmus, disorientation, ataxia. Did not loose consciousness or bowel or bladder control, no paddling. Episode lasted 4 to 5 hours, regained full functioning. Went to ER where they said it was likely a stroke not a seizure. Neurological exam was normal.

- Mid August: Did repeat ultrasound that showed an enlarged liver with nodular hepatic hyperplasia believed to be benign and caused by the prednisone. Gallbladder sludge/possible early mucocele; currently takes ursodiol. Normal spleen, pancreas, stomach and intestines, with NO enlarged lymph nodes.

- Late August: Underwent a second lymphoma workup that included IDEXX Cancer Dx, result was negative. Also, did chest and abdominal xrays, unremarkable; blood pressure, normal; and CBC and full Chem panel: Hematocrit 31%, improved from 27%. Platelets remained elevated at 822, decreased from 1,109. WBC was 19.4 with neutrophilia and monocytosis, interpreted as an inflammatory leukogram. No blasts, blood parasites, schistocytes or keratocytes were identified. Chemistry showed ALT 304, ALP 351, GGT 33 and lipase 998, all improved from July labs.

- Fully tapered off of prednisone in late September. Around the same time, he started ursodiol, omeprazole, oral iron, dasuquin, and continued on famotidine.

- Since then, he has had significant itching, flaky skin, and extreme shedding. Vet ruled out fleas and mites. Started on medicated baths and hydroxyzine for allergies with no improvement after 3 weeks.

- Currently on a medication washout/dechallenge. Only taking ursodiol and famotidine.

- In the last two weeks, he has had periods of inappetance except towards high value foods and treats, occasional episodes of loose stool/diarrhea (no blood), unproductive gagging (not regurgitation, not bloat, not coughing). He's developed spots on his stomach near his groin that look like very faint bruises, but they sit on top of the skin and can become crusty. The vet said these were normal in aging dogs and did not perform skin cytology.

That brings us to present day.

Yesterday, October 26, he suddenly began trembling visibly, whining, holding his tail tucked and acting frightened/uncomfortable. I took him to the ER. His temp was 103, but all other vitals were normal. Because the hospital had a 6 hour wait and he appeared stable, we left and arranged a morning urgent-care appointment with a nearby hospital.

Today, October 27th, he initially appeared slow but ambulatory. While walking toward the back door for his morning potty, he became wobbly, fell face-first into a recliner and then lay limp on his side for several seconds. In the seconds it took for me to reach him and pick him up, he was already alert. Afterward, he walked outside, urinated normally and returned inside. There were no lingering side effects.

About 45 min later, he had an identical episode as we were leaving for the appointment. No side effects, no loss of consciousness, bowel, or bladder control. It reminded me of those fainting goats/syncope.

At today’s veterinary appointment:

- Temperature was 102.9°F.

- Lost 1.5lbs since Sept 25th appt. Current weight 29.5lbs.

- Heart rhythm sounded normal on examination.

- Neurological exam was normal.

- Gums remained pink, but mildly tacky.

- His abdomen felt normal to the veterinarian, without obvious distension or pain.

- He received sq fluids and Cerenia.

- A CBC and full chemistry panel were sent to the laboratory; results may not be available until Friday.

- I also requested SNAP 4Dx Plus be done since he does accompany me on hikes and float trips and we have a lot of wildlife around.

After returning home, he ate very enthusiastically, urinated and defecated normally, and has eaten a little more since then, but still not his usual amount. He is resting comfortably and can move around independently, but he still seems more subdued than usual (I know this could be the cerenia) and possibly mildly unsteady. I may be scrutinizing every movement because I am anxious/worried, but he does not seem completely back to baseline.

He does not have access to any toxic foods or environmental poisons. His diet is strictly Hill's lowfat i/d, but I do provide boiled or freeze dried chicken breast or minnows as treats and an occasional Dentalife dental bone.

Questions:

  1. Do the brief limp episodes sound more consistent with syncope, seizure, stroke/vestibular disease, weakness from GI illness/dehydration, or something else?

  2. In addition to the pending CBC, chemistry panel, and SNAP 4Dx, would you recommend pancreatic lipase testing, blood pressure, ECG/Holter monitoring, abdominal ultrasound/FAST scan, or another test? I cannot afford a $4k MRI, especially if it would not change his treatment plan. They told me Clopidogrel was the only option to treat dogs with strokes and he can't take it because of the unresolved anemia.

  3. Could adrenal suppression after long-term prednisone and a completed taper cause this combination of weakness, GI symptoms and collapse? Would resting cortisol or ACTH stimulation testing be reasonable?

  4. Given his anemia and collapse, should his spleen or abdomen be re-imaged even though the spleen appeared normal on ultrasound in August?

  5. Are there other differentials or warning signs I should specifically discuss with his veterinarian?

  6. Could this be liver cancer? If so, what specific tests should I request?

I understand that no one can diagnose him through Reddit, and he is actively under veterinary care. I am mainly hoping for ideas about reasonable next diagnostic steps while we wait for the laboratory results.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I love this dog more than anything else in this world and the last 11 months have been absolute hell. I would just like to know what's going on, so I can help him.

Dog passed unexpectedly. Please help me get some closure.

As the title states. My dog ended up getting ill and we did end up putting her down as the prognosis didn’t seem good. But it was all out of the blue and processing this has been hard.

She was a 12 year old beagle dachshund mix. She was diagnosed with SARDS earlier this year. (From my research it seems like this is not a well known disease and there are different opinions on how it functions in the body.)

My fiance and I went on a 36 hour vacation and we had a dog sitter with her the whole time. The day we left she seemed perfectly fine. Apparently the next morning she didn’t eat breakfast but dog sitter just thought she was upset we were gone (my pup had seperation anxiety) and didn’t say anything since we were coming home that evening.

When we came home she didn’t get super excited to hear we were back and that was my first sign she wasn’t okay. We was also very wobbly when she finally got up. We thought it may have been from having Trazadone the night before and not eating in the morning. I got her to eat and she seemed to get better.

Then things took a turn for the worst. She was laying down but had her head up and was moving her head kind of weird. She started breathing fast and seemed hot. Took her temp and it was 104 and that was my cue to take her to the emergency vet.

When we got to the vet her temp was up to 106. Bloodwork showed low RBC, low WBC, and suspected band cells. Vet said it looked like sepsis or an immune attack. When he mentioned an immune attack I thought of the SARDS diagnosis she had and thought maybe that was it. But he said he wasn’t sure and if we treated it and we were wrong she would die.

We decided to treat at sepsis and hope to get some answers. They had her on antibiotics and fluids and a lot of pain meds. We were waiting on an on call ultrasound but we never managed to get one because the morning of we got a call from the vet saying that she now had fluid around her lungs and her bloodwork looked worse. I didn’t want to put her through anymore and decided to let her go in peace. Poor girl is blind and anxious and I left her there for two nights hoping I could save her.

The vet said it’s cancer and it just seemed to have exploded. That may be true but it’s also so hard for me to believe since she seemed perfectly fine. She was slowing down but I thought it was from her being older. I may have missed some signs :(.

Sorry for the long post. Losing her was so unexpected and I am still trying to make sense of it. Does this sound like cancer? I really hope she wasn’t in pain this whole time. She was my baby and I never wanted any of this to happen to her.

Edited to add: we did also get an X-ray immediately upon arriving to the vet. There was a very small (6mm) mass on one of her lungs but the vet at the time want not worried about it.

Is my cat sick?

• Upvotes

Hey Reddit! Need advice on if I am just being a paranoid cat parent, or if these are actual red flags.

Earlier today, my cat vomitted. He’s has a couple instances where he eats too fast and regurgitates in the past, but this was 5+ hours after his breakfast. I didn’t see the beginning of it, so wasn’t able to see if there was any triggers, but from what I can tell he didn’t get into anything or overindulge. (Ignore if squeamish, but it was mostly partially digested kibble, and clear liquid) I monitored him before getting to work and saw no mood changes (he even sat and yelled at the closet door for his treats). I made sure he had a lot of drinking water, and had my partner feed him wet food about 6 hours afterwards. When I got home, he was acting normal, and I saw no evidence of him being sick again, so I put it all past me.

Well, he came up on the couch just a bit ago and was noticeably warm. To the point that I pet him and noticed how warm his ears felt. I tried my best to get a temp on him, and the highest reading I got was 100.4 degrees.

He has not vomitted since this morning, and I see no behavior changes (he’s grooming himself as we speak, still having zoomies, still interested in food, etc). However, how warm he feels the same day after getting sick worries me a little. It’s about 10pm where I live, so now able to get him into a vet until tomorrow. Any advice?

Post-Op 3 year old Border Collie question.

Hi everybody! I’m not sure if this thread is the right place to post about this so please let me know if you have any advice on the situation. My 3 year old border collie had surgery on a mass under her tongue and a little into her neck today. She is now at home and wearing a cone to prevent her from ripping the stitches on her neck. Right now (day of surgery) my concern is that she is constantly whining. She was breathing really fast at first which slowed down after awhile but the whining is non stop. I really want her to relax but she isn’t seeming to calm down yet. At what point should I be concerned enough to take her to an emergency vet near me. She is an extremely anxious doggy and I’m afraid attempting to take her anywhere else today will cause her to run off or tear through the stitches entirely.

Refer to FAQ no sé qué pasa con mi gatito

Double Dose of Vetoryl

My 16lb Maltese Shih Tzu accidentally got another dose of 10mg vetoryl this evening. He had 10mg of vetoryl & 15mg phenobarbital this morning & was supposed to get the phenobarbital again tonight but was given vetoryl instead. Should I bring him to emergency vet? He is 13 years old & diagnosed with cushings.

I have a year and a half old German shepard. She is very skinny, and has been for months. Right now shes getting aboit 8 cups of food a day, along with treats and usually some table scraps. Ik younger dogs can take a while to fill out but it's to the point you can see her ribs sticking out, and feel her tailbone. She drinks a ton of water everyday and chews/eats random things like sticks plastic cups etc. Her health has become concerning now buy the way she looks. She could eat all day and still not be full I swear. There's been no improvement with her weight at all. She is a very active dog that could explain with her metabolism but she just looks so skinny and idk what to do

Cat wobbling randomly

Hi my cat bean has been sleeping 24/7 for the past week, he doesn’t play anymore, he always loafs but in the way everyoke says that cats do when they’re in pain. he recenrly started wobbling but very rarely. Too long for it to be unnoticed yet too short for me to record. He wobbles then falls belly flat it’s so weird. Can someone please tell me what this is?

Dog has a thing for weed??

On Oct 09, my dog (about 9 y.o) was out on the balcony with my partner and we saw her digging in the corner. She has a thing for goose poop so I thought she might’ve discovered a love for pigeon poop. I called her away and we sat on the couch.

About 30-45min later we noticed she was acting super weird, delayed and intense reaction (e.g flinching) and a drunken walk. We drove her to an emergency clinic and the tech at the front looked her over and was like “is there a chance she ate something with marijuana? This looks 99% like marijuana intoxication”. My partner does smoke out on the balcony so we quickly realized she must’ve gotten into a roach. We weren’t expecting it at all because she’s never been a dog that eats garbage etc. The vet tech advised we could stay and wait (and pay $500+) to get that confirmed with a vet but suggested we take her home, make her comfortable, and keep an eye on her.

We did that but the next morning she was still super out of it so I brought her to a different emergency clinic. We were placed in a room but an urgent case came in right after us and our wait grew longer. Around the 3 hour mark (about 15-16 hours since ingestion) my dog started to act back to normal and I decided to leave again. She quickly recovered after this.

All that said - I just got home and I think my dog got into something again! It would’ve had to have been from our walk about 4 hours ago (live DT in legalized city) because the house has been tightened up and no one has been home.

I will be looking into improving her training and possibly introduce muzzle training for walks to keep her safe. I am also keeping a close eye on her to see if we should escalate to an emergency vet tonight.

However, I wanted to check if this is something someone has heard of before? Is it possible she’s now attracted to the taste?

Small pink raised nodule on my cat’s back, present for several weeks (photos included)

Species: Cat
Age: 3 years old
Sex/Neuter status: Female, spayed
Breed: Domestic Shorthair
Body weight: Approx. 6–7 kg
History: Strictly indoor cat. Generally healthy.
Clinical signs: A small, raised, pink/flesh-colored bump on her upper back area. The center appears slightly ulcerated/crusted with hair thinning around it. It does not seem painful to the touch, and she doesn't obsessively scratch or lick at it.
Duration: Several weeks (has not resolved or shrunk on its own).

Hi everyone,
I noticed this small pink nodule on my cat's back a few weeks ago. Because it has persisted for some time, I plan to schedule a vet visit to have it checked in person.
In the meantime, could this be consistent with a benign growth, a sebaceous cyst, a granuloma, or possibly a cutaneous mast cell tumor? What kind of in-office tests (like a fine-needle aspirate / cytology) should I expect or ask for during the consultation?

Thank you for your insights!

Concern for my cat’s weight, any recommendations

So my cat, 18 female, has been consistently losing weight over the past year no matter what I’ve tried. She is a very picky eater and refuses wet food, but drinks a good amount of water and is a free feeder. She has pre kidney disease but is not on any special diet for it, as it exacerbated her GI issues. She was prescribed Hill's Prescription Diet GI Biome Stress Digestive/Fiber Care Dry Cat Food and Pet Honesty Vet Backed Cat Probiotic Chews (given based on instructions) to help with her GI issues (wet poop and regurgitating). I’m worried about her continuing to lose weight and I’ve tried a few different high calorie nutritional gels, but she only will take it when she’s in the mood. With her age I know that she’s bound to lose weight and have medical problems, but I want her to at least be as healthy as possible while I still have her. Any recommendations for helping with the weight loss? (Her vet and I are not concerned about the early stage CKD since her values have been consistently over the last 3 panels)
