Local documentary filmmaker looking for interesting Annapolis stories.
I'm an Annapolis-area filmmaker looking for subjects and stories for future documentary projects, and want to keep my toe in my hometown.
I've completed two films, Dogs of Annapolis and An Unnecessary Weight, and I'm interested in continuing to explore stories that offer a different perspective on our people and our community.
I'm particularly drawn to stories that might otherwise go unnoticed. Interesting people, unusual experiences, overlooked communities, or something that challenges the way we think about a subject.
The story doesn't necessarily need to be about Annapolis, but I'd love to find subjects with a connection to the area.
If you have an idea, I'd be interested in hearing:
- What's the story, and why do you think it matters?
- Who are the people involved?
- What makes it interesting, unusual, or worth exploring?
- Is there someone who could help provide access to the story?
I'm primarily looking for documentary and nonfiction storytelling opportunities rather than commercial or promotional video projects.
You don't need a polished proposal. Feel free to comment here or send me a private message if you'd rather discuss an idea privately. I'd rather have a conversation and hear you out than see something that is curated.

Couples therapist?
Does anyone have a recommendation for a couples therapist? They don’t need to take insurance. Been having the most difficult time finding someone that my partner and I like and has availability to start seeing us this calendar year. We would prefer telehealth appointments but will take any recommendations. Thanks!

Maryland Witch Trials
There were 12 witch trials in Maryland history (that we know of), and the last one took place in Annapolis in 1712. Five were capital cases, with two convictions and one execution.
WJZ ran a story on the walking tour I wrote, which looks at the history of the accusations, the superstitions behind them, and the local lore that grew up around them.
https://www.cbsnews.com/baltimore/news/beyond-salem-maryland-has-a-history-of-witch-trials/
There are still a few spots left on the Pub Crawl and Walking Tours this week if you want to hear the stories in person.

Tickets here: the Original Annapolis Ghost Tours annapolisghosts.com
One thing worth knowing this time of year: a lot of the ghost tours you'll find online are run by national companies that operate in dozens of cities. If you're booking a tour in Annapolis, look for one that's locally owned and researched. Shopping local keeps the money in town and keeps the stories accurate.

Question Recommendations for a colorist specializing in lived-in balayage?
Looking for a great colorist in the Annapolis/surrounding areas who’s particularly skilled with balayage, dimensional brunette/blonde color, and seamless blending. My natural hair color is light to medium brown.
I typically go 6–12 months between color appointments, so a natural-looking grow-out is really important. I’m also starting to get some grays and would love someone experienced with low-maintenance gray blending.
I’d especially appreciate firsthand recs from anyone who also goes several months between color appointments. Thanks!

Eastport Secedes From Annapolis!
The Maritime Republic of Eastport disrupted the City of Annapolis' town hall meeting last night (again). The tiniest sovereign nation presented their declaration of War by Rope. The mayor and aldermen responded with unacceptable terms. It will be WAR! Join the party Saturday November 7th.

Paywall Hutzell: Military stunts at football games are great fun. Until someone dies.
No one will ever win the argument that this should end, that the military should not appear at football games in Baltimore or Annapolis. At the very least, Congress must review the safety of this tradition to make sure Sgt. Ian Patterson is the last to die.

Do Not Use Barstow and Sons for HVAC/Plumbing/Electrical
They were bought out by F.H. Furr and have had a noticeable decline in quality in order to make the parent company more money. They recently cancelled on me twice last second when I took time off work for my appointment with them. The third time they finally came out and told me they don't do oil furnaces, so a third day of work missed.
I have been using them for years so it wasn't like they didn't have my information. Bottom line is if you are looking for service do not use them. Other friends have similar horror stories.

EmPOWER Maryland
Does anyone have experience with the EmPOWER Maryland program that provides rebates for switching from fossil fuel heating to electric heating? I have BGE and their ENERGY STAR program claims to offer up to $15,000 in rebates for switching. I have an oil furnace that is failing so I’m hoping this program is legit and could offset a large chunk of the installation of a heat pump system.

Moving to Annapolis, where to live?
My partner and I (females, late 20s) might move to Annapolis, she got a job offer there. I am currently living in northern VA with my family and my office is there. I enjoy working hybrid, so I’d ideally still go into the office maybe 2x per week.
We are very active and do crossfit. We enjoy hanging out with friends but don’t drink/go to bars that much. We prefer quiet, walkable neighborhoods over living in the middle of a city, but we also don’t want to live in the sticks. We’d be renting, maybe buying in a few years. Ideally we don’t live on top of a shopping center or right on a highway.
What neighborhoods should we look into? Preferably on the west/NW side of Annapolis, as I want to have easier access to VA and she doesn’t want her commute to Annapolis to be more than 30 mins.
Would I be crazy to commute to Tyson’s 2x/week? (I would be able to avoid rush hour and drive at off-hours.)

Question Dating in Annapolis
Hey everybody. I thought I'd ask this since I'd seen it asked by someone else and it seems worth trying.
It seems impossible to find any one to date here on any apps. I love this town and all the people here, but I'm not sure that I can stay for more than two years if I don't find anyone.
Do y'all know anyone who might be interested in going on a date either in Annapolis or the immediately surrounding suburbs? I'm a 22 year old gay guy and I'd love to find someone looking for something long term. Thank y'all so much for the time and consideration and have a good night!

Maryland hidden gems? Amazing food, unique boutiques & lesser-known local favorites!
My sister is visiting, and we're looking for a great place to spend a Friday shopping, eating, and exploring!
We're near Annapolis/Crownsville but open to other areas of Maryland. Ideally, we'd love several great spots within walking distance or a short drive of each other, rather than traveling all over.
**What we're looking for:**
🛍️ **Shopping:** Unique boutiques, independent shops, home decor, specialty stores, and hidden gems. Especially children's boutiques with unique clothing and gifts for her 4-year-old twin boys and baby girl on the way!
🍽️ **Food:** A HUGE priority! Incredible, flavorful food, whether it's a hole-in-the-wall, family-owned restaurant, bakery, or longtime local favorite. Quality matters more than anything!
✨ **Exploring:** Charming towns, walkable shopping areas, markets, interesting shops, and unique things to do.
**Our plans:**
- **Before 3 PM:** Just my sister and me.
- **After 3 PM:** My 5-year-old joins us.
- My sister is 7 months pregnant but can walk around just fine!
**What I'd REALLY love:** Recommendations you wouldn't necessarily find through Google! Lesser-known local favorites, tucked-away boutiques, overlooked restaurants, and places most people don't know exist. Popular spots are welcome too if they're genuinely worth visiting.
**Bonus points for specific combinations of nearby places!** Like "Shop here, grab lunch here, then walk down the street to this little hidden gem."
What are your favorite spots or areas that you'd recommend?

Eastport German Shorthaired Pointer
This is the very first dog that I photographed for the calendar way back in 2020. Until then I had only photographed my own dogs over the years. When I met her, she knocked me back onto my bottom. It’s stung, but I forgave her because she’s such a sweetheart.
Back then, I was still calling myself Dogs of Annapolis, but I got an angry email from someone. I hadn’t realized that there was another dog account. Of course mine was for charity, so I didn’t mind changing my name and didn’t want to compete with anyone anyway.
