Resources Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (US) deck

5 Upvotes

I posted my UK deck here, this is the US version.

The deck is 49,843 questions scraped from the millionaire fan site. I went through and fixed some formatting oddities, and some duplicate questions from the TV show that repeated in the games, but there might be some other things I've missed that need tidying up. I didn't meticulously check it scraped everything either, but there's a lot of trivia here anyway.

Resources Language-learning decks with clips from famous movies

Post image
62 Upvotes

Old heads will remember Neri’s sentence lists. Those are anki decks that simply have a sentence in your target language on the front, and the english translation of that sentence on the back. Despite its simplicity, studying sentences this way is very effective because it allows you to build a really intuitive understanding of the language.

What I’ve made is a more modern version of the same idea. The biggest difference is that my sentences come from movies. This means I can have every card include an embedded video of the scene the sentence comes from! I think it’s really fun. There’s also a placement test so the generated deck can start with sentences closer to your level.

Check it out here: https://yap.town/anki

Btw, I want to be 100% clear that the generator is free, doesn’t need an account, and you get a normal .apkg that you can import to anki. It just looks kind of fancy because it’s attached to a broader language-learning tool I’m working on, but you don’t have to use that at all to use this. AI assistance was used in the creation of this project.

Question Starting 11th grade in Germany (Saxony) – Looking for good Anki decks and study advice

2 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I’m currently at the beginning of 11th grade in Saxony, Germany, preparing for the Abitur (German high school diploma).

I’m trying to build a solid study routine for the next two years, but honestly, I’m still figuring out how to study effectively.

Until now, I’ve used Obsidian to organize my notes and create my own Anki flashcards. However, maintaining everything took way too much time, and the system didn’t really work well for me.

I’d like to simplify things and focus more on actually learning instead of constantly organizing notes.

I’m looking for:

  • Premade Anki decks for German, Math, English, History, Physics, Chemistry, Geography and Politics/Economics (GRW), ideally suitable for the Saxony curriculum.
  • Well-designed flashcards with images, diagrams, formulas and clear explanations, organized by topics or tags.
  • Effective study methods for the last two years of high school, especially for understanding and remembering material long-term.
  • Advice on building a simple study system using Anki (and possibly Obsidian) without spending hours maintaining it.

I’m also open to paid decks if they’re genuinely worth it.

My main questions:

  1. Do you know any specific high-quality Anki decks or websites? Direct links would be really appreciated!
  2. How would you structure your learning and revision throughout 11th and 12th grade?
  3. What study methods actually worked for you besides Anki?

I’d love to hear what worked for you and what you would do differently if you were starting again.

Thanks in advance!

Question How do I revise an Anki deck for a test?

• Upvotes

I've been studying my Anki decks regularly, so when I use the custom study feature to try to revise, it only shows me the review cards or few days in the future, and grading them as good schedules them in the future. I'd like to go through all the cards at least once or twice and grade them without it affecting my schedule

Question NL->TL vs TL->NL or both?

0 Upvotes

I think this is the most complicated question for learning languages using Anki.
From what I've read through a few posts:

NL->TL (production)
Great for producing the word. Great for producing (writing, speaking). Biggest con I've read about? It makes your brain translate, which is what you don't want because you want to immerse yourself in your target language.

TL->NL (recognition)
Great for recognizing, I guess that's self explanatory. Targets mostly reading.
Biggest con I've read about? Not as useful as NL->TL because if you can produce it you can read it?

My way of thinking is, why not both? If you only use production, can you truly say you can read a wall of text in TL as well? Yeah you can argue "oh I can just spend more time reading instead for recognition" but won't it be a hard struggle to actually read then. What if you get really busy and stop reading or consuming text of your TL. What if you went to focus on learning another language. If you don't have Anki to help reinforce your recognition skills continuously, it'll disappear.
The problem with just recognition cards is of course production. If you were in an isolated context without the word, actually producing it would be hard because you never actually had practice with it. All you did is ever learn with the word said or read in front of you.

So I honestly think if you just want to read, recognition is good enough, but if you want to be truly fluent while using Anki to continuously reinforce (with consuming TL media ofc), then I believe both is very beneficial.
Now this is what I currently believe in but if anyone have counter arguments i do would like to hear them on what they are though.

Question How do you build cards that train clinical reasoning, not just facts?

13 Upvotes

Facts are easy to turn into cards. The harder part is the step before the answer, like what you would ask or check first.

Have you found a card format that works for that?

Add-ons Using Computer Science and Anki to Learn More Vocabulary With Less Memorization

Thumbnail youtu.be

A couple days ago I made an anki add-on that made it easier to guess the meaning and reading of Japanese words in any anki deck.

Someone requested the same for Chinese so I made a sequel to the add-on called GuessWithAnki. It brings the same learning benefits as the original add-on with support for Japanese, Chinese, English and medical decks.

To learn more about how the add-on works and how I made it, you can watch the video in the post or read the r/hacktoberfest article here.

Any feedback on the process and analysis is appreciated. I am curious to know if this is a pattern other anki users have noticed and how helpful they found it for language learning.

Question When is it okay to reset cards?

Thumbnail gallery
20 Upvotes

I use Anki primarily for my USMLE exams. I passed Step 1 in February and suspended all my cards afterward (I know I should have kept up with the reviews, but I got lazy) I restarted my prep in late May.

Whenever I started a new system, I would reset all my pathophysiology and clinical presentation cards for that section to “new,” and also make new cards for management. I never stopped to check whether this was the right approach.

Today it occurred to me that if the algorithm learns from my retention, then resetting cards to new might be distorting it. Wouldn’t the algorithm start to think I forget cards more often than I really do?

So my question is: when I unsuspend cards, should I reset them to new, or just leave them as they are and let the algorithm handle the spacing, even if I’ve forgotten most of them?

Add-ons Contributing to add-ons

Hey! I’m looking to contribute for the first time to an open source project and would love to do so on an anki add-on. Do you have any add-on to recommend or do you need help with your add-on?

Question Downloaded the AnKing Notetypes add on, do I select to update it?

1 Upvotes

So I downloaded this such that I could make it so the lecture notes pop when I flip the card automatically, rather than having to click that little bar.

However, it’s now prompting me to update the AnKing Notetypes.

Do I select to update it? When I do, it makes a scary pop up saying “Do you really want to update the note types?”

Thanks in advance

Add-ons More detailed and interactive stats for Anki, pinnable under your decks

Thumbnail gallery
113 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

Here's an add-on for anyone who likes digging into their stats. It has pretty much every stat you could want, in its own window, and anything in it can be pinned under your deck list. I find it more interactive and easier to navigate than the built-in stats.
If you try it, feel free to explore the settings, almost everything can be customized.

It's free and open source.
You can get it on AnkiWeb, and the code is on GitHub.

Hope it's useful to some of you, and let me know if you have questions or find a bug!

Resources A new Android app to create widget so you can review your AnkiDroid decks on your home screen.

Thumbnail gallery
43 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I have been using AnkiDroid to learn Japanese for a year. What a great app it is!
But one thing I really want to have is put the deck on my home screen so I can see the card every time I pick up the phone. Unfortunately AnkiDroid doesn't have that feature (its widget is just to display stats).

So I created an Android app which can add a widget to display the Anki deck right on your home screen. You can see the card, listen to the audio and review the card just like in AnkiDroid but right on your home screen.

Here is a video to demo how it works and here are few screenshots.
https://youtube.com/shorts/3ePQhD4gDbA?feature=share

I tried to submit through Google app store but it's under review and might need testing. So if you are interested, drop me a message and let me see how can I get you on to the tester list.

[Edit]: you need to have AnkiDroid installed on the phone as Meiki app will call AnkiDroid's public API to get the decks/cards and display them.

I have already got 12+ testers for the closed testing required by Play Store. It has to wait at least 14 days before going for public testing.
At the same time, you are more than welcomed to join the test. Just message me your email address:

Solved Anki audio either stutters, or lagsup to 5 seconds to play the audio

2 Upvotes

I am on a new windows 11 install, I dont have any addons. I have the latest release on anki and im not sure why this is happening. Previously I was on linux and there was no issue, so I dont think its my deck. When i press the button to play the audio, it is silent for up to 5 seconds. Other times the start of the audio repeats many times like a stutter.

I am using wired headphones. I tried "Zzz (legacy) No Sound Fix (libmpv)" addon. It did seem to fix the delay issue, after about 4 cards my audio wouldn't completely stop playing until I restarted anki.
Please help!

edit: solved with this addon

Resources Who Wants To Be a Millionaire (UK) deck

47 Upvotes

I used Claude to scrape the millionaire fansite for all questions from the UK TV show, books and games, and put this deck together.

33777 cards, ordered by source/date/prize amount. You can sort by "Prize" and delete the 100 and 200 pound easy questions, but I left them in for the sake of completion. Skipped 65 DVD game questions that had video clips.

Download here: Millionaire UK.apkg.

EDIT: I just realised that some fastest finger first questions, that require putting the options in order, don't show the answer.

To fix put {{^HasCorrect}}<div class="answer">{{#PrizeClass}}<span class="label">{{Label}}</span>{{/PrizeClass}}{{Answer}}</div>{{/HasCorrect}} on the back so the back template looks like this:

<div class="wrap">
      <div class="badge {{PrizeClass}}">{{Prize}}</div>
      <div class="q hex"><div class="in">{{Question}}</div></div>
      <div class="opts {{HasCorrect}}">
    {{#A}}<div class="opt hex {{CorrectA}}"><div class="in"><span class="ltr">A:</span> {{A}}</div></div>{{/A}}
    {{#B}}<div class="opt hex {{CorrectB}}"><div class="in"><span class="ltr">B:</span> {{B}}</div></div>{{/B}}
    {{#C}}<div class="opt hex {{CorrectC}}"><div class="in"><span class="ltr">C:</span> {{C}}</div></div>{{/C}}
    {{#D}}<div class="opt hex {{CorrectD}}"><div class="in"><span class="ltr">D:</span> {{D}}</div></div>{{/D}}
      </div>
      {{\^HasCorrect}}<div class="answer">{{#PrizeClass}}<span class="label">{{Label}}</span>{{/PrizeClass}}{{Answer}}</div>{{/HasCorrect}}
      <div class="meta">{{Contestant}} \&middot; {{Date}}</div>
    </div>

Should look like this now.

Fixed FFF

I don't use ankiweb to sync, I use my own server, so uploading to ankiweb shared decks is a bit of a pain in the arse for me, if someone wants to share the deck on ankiweb go ahead.

Question is there a way to make anki cards side a (english) side b (another language) and side c (answer) and have anki ask me to answer side c?

0 Upvotes

sorry for bad spellings

I have just migrated from brainscape platform.

to remember my cards i used 1 side with the word and another with a memorry sentences to remember the word.

The problem with it was that I could not just tap the reverse card option to get the languages reverse because I would get the answers instead of the questions. That was why I came up with the idea of just making to cards, the answer always stayes the same and contains both languages, but the question word flip based on if its card num 1 or 2.

I am pretty sure it would be a feture with a mod or something on anki without having to make 2 versions of the same cadd basiclly.

Could you guys please help me?
