Question NL->TL vs TL->NL or both?

I think this is the most complicated question for learning languages using Anki.
From what I've read through a few posts:

NL->TL (production)
Great for producing the word. Great for producing (writing, speaking). Biggest con I've read about? It makes your brain translate, which is what you don't want because you want to immerse yourself in your target language.

TL->NL (recognition)
Great for recognizing, I guess that's self explanatory. Targets mostly reading.
Biggest con I've read about? Not as useful as NL->TL because if you can produce it you can read it?

My way of thinking is, why not both? If you only use production, can you truly say you can read a wall of text in TL as well? Yeah you can argue "oh I can just spend more time reading instead for recognition" but won't it be a hard struggle to actually read then. What if you get really busy and stop reading or consuming text of your TL. What if you went to focus on learning another language. If you don't have Anki to help reinforce your recognition skills continuously, it'll disappear.
The problem with just recognition cards is of course production. If you were in an isolated context without the word, actually producing it would be hard because you never actually had practice with it. All you did is ever learn with the word said or read in front of you.

So I honestly think if you just want to read, recognition is good enough, but if you want to be truly fluent while using Anki to continuously reinforce (with consuming TL media ofc), then I believe both is very beneficial.
Now this is what I currently believe in but if anyone have counter arguments i do would like to hear them on what they are though.

Resources Language-learning decks with clips from famous movies

Old heads will remember Neri’s sentence lists. Those are anki decks that simply have a sentence in your target language on the front, and the english translation of that sentence on the back. Despite its simplicity, studying sentences this way is very effective because it allows you to build a really intuitive understanding of the language.

What I’ve made is a more modern version of the same idea. The biggest difference is that my sentences come from movies. This means I can have every card include an embedded video of the scene the sentence comes from! I think it’s really fun. There’s also a placement test so the generated deck can start with sentences closer to your level.

Check it out here: https://yap.town/anki

Btw, I want to be 100% clear that the generator is free, doesn’t need an account, and you get a normal .apkg that you can import to anki. It just looks kind of fancy because it’s attached to a broader language-learning tool I’m working on, but you don’t have to use that at all to use this. AI assistance was used in the creation of this project.

Resources Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (US) deck

I posted my UK deck here, this is the US version.

The deck is 49,843 questions scraped from the millionaire fan site. I went through and fixed some formatting oddities, and some duplicate questions from the TV show that repeated in the games, but there might be some other things I've missed that need tidying up. I didn't meticulously check it scraped everything either, but there's a lot of trivia here anyway.

Again, if someone wants to share on ankiweb go ahead.

Question Starting 11th grade in Germany (Saxony) – Looking for good Anki decks and study advice

Hey everyone!

I’m currently at the beginning of 11th grade in Saxony, Germany, preparing for the Abitur (German high school diploma).

I’m trying to build a solid study routine for the next two years, but honestly, I’m still figuring out how to study effectively.

Until now, I’ve used Obsidian to organize my notes and create my own Anki flashcards. However, maintaining everything took way too much time, and the system didn’t really work well for me.

I’d like to simplify things and focus more on actually learning instead of constantly organizing notes.

I’m looking for:

  • Premade Anki decks for German, Math, English, History, Physics, Chemistry, Geography and Politics/Economics (GRW), ideally suitable for the Saxony curriculum.
  • Well-designed flashcards with images, diagrams, formulas and clear explanations, organized by topics or tags.
  • Effective study methods for the last two years of high school, especially for understanding and remembering material long-term.
  • Advice on building a simple study system using Anki (and possibly Obsidian) without spending hours maintaining it.

I’m also open to paid decks if they’re genuinely worth it.

My main questions:

  1. Do you know any specific high-quality Anki decks or websites? Direct links would be really appreciated!
  2. How would you structure your learning and revision throughout 11th and 12th grade?
  3. What study methods actually worked for you besides Anki?

I’d love to hear what worked for you and what you would do differently if you were starting again.

Thanks in advance!
