If you’ve ever doubted your degree and wondered kung may patutunguhan ba talaga ang Management Accounting, I just want to tell you na meron. I’m a BSMA graduate myself, and I’m sharing this because I used to hear people say na mas preferred pa rin ang Accountancy graduates, or na limited ang opportunities for Management Accounting grads.
But here’s what I’ve learned: your degree is part of your story, but it doesn’t have to define the limits of your career.
I’m not saying na walang challenges or na madali lang makahanap ng work. What I’m saying is, don’t disqualify yourself from opportunities just because you’re not an Accountancy graduate. Build your skills, learn how to communicate professionally, and learn how to present your strengths during interviews. You’d be surprised how much these things matter, too.
If kaya mong mag-part-time or gain relevant experience while studying, especially sa small firms, take the opportunity if your circumstances allow it. Invest in your knowledge and skills early. By the time you graduate, you’ll have more than just a diploma to offer.
And please, don’t underestimate the value of having a good attitude. Be teachable, reliable, respectful, and willing to learn. Do your best wherever you are, even when the opportunity doesn’t seem that big yet. You never know what it might lead to.
I’m not saying this to promise that everything will be easy, but to remind you that you don’t have to wait until you become a CPA or finish a bridging program before you start building a career you’re proud of.
I’m a BSMA graduate, and I’m proof that there are opportunities out there for us, too. So if you’re doubting yourself right now, don’t give up before you’ve even tried.
Your course is not a dead end. Keep learning, keep improving, and give yourself a chance. One day, you’ll look back and realize that the things you were so worried about didn’t have to stop you from starting 🤍
