I'm buying a Faxon Ascent 10.5" upper to run suppressed for a tactical competition. Gonna replace a gas block to Superlative Arms. My goal is to minimize weight as much as possible, since there is a lot of running and physical activities (like carrying a 100lb mannequin) and not so much prolonged shooting (I'm unlikely to shoot more than a mag a stage).
The upper comes with a SOCOM profiled barrel, but the same store carries a pencil profile barrel for about $350. Is the upgrade really worth the money in your experience? Looks like there is less than 100g (0.2lbs) difference, so I'm curious if you feel it at this barrel length.
I'd rather decide right now, because:
— the barrels might go out of stock and in Poland barrels/uppers aren't easily available
— pencil and SOCOM have different gas journal sizes, so I'd rather buy one cry once in this case

First time building a rifle myself. I did everything by the book. It’s a 10.3 mk18 mod 0 ish, and after getting it together I lubed everything I was supposed to, and cycled some rounds and ejected them. (Haven’t fired it) and the bolt isn’t locking far enough to the rear. It’s resting on the casing.

Might swap for a cantilever mount and add a piggyback red dot also in FDE. Haven’t found any for a reasonable price though.
All Aero minus the BCG and LPK - both BCM. Leupold MK3HD 4-12 TMR illuminated.

I’m looking to replace the red dot rifle. LASIK doesn’t last forever I guess and the fixed magnification on a small optic powered by the fuckin sun sounds great. Did anyone replace the ACOG with something with the times or do you still like it? I like the EOTech Vudu, but that setup is primarily for long range fun and is just too heavy for my liking.

The urge to turn my SPR into a Mk12 is quite strong

Like a college student pledging for a frat, I got a little experimental last night. I dyed my FDE BCM stuff grey. Not quite what I wanted. I'm probably going to put FDE back on. But I figured I'd let it ride for awhile to justify the 10 minutes of work I put in. BCM pls make wolf grey.

Hi, I'm looking for something like a Savior Specialist Covert Single Rifle Case that will fit my 16.5" MR223 and that I can carry discreetly like a backpack. Since my rifle doesn't have a folding stock, the case needs to be at least 950cm/37,5" long on the inside.
What I don't want is a backpack where you can immediately see what's inside. I just want to go to the shooting range and back without every neighbor/person knowing about it.
TIA

In my pursuit to understand what my options were, I decided to make a table. Of everything. The table contains, to my best ability, all complete guns, complete uppers, barrels, and suitable handguards currently offered, with links. I include all the important info like price, weight, barrel info, gas systems, buffers, BCGs, handguards, upper & lower receivers, etc. I also include my own personal thoughts and notes, which you can take or leave as you see fit.
I believe this will be helpful to the community at large to get an idea of who makes what and what our options are.
Please let me know if I missed something or if something new gets introduced, as I will keep updating this table accordingly.
All the best!

Soon Ill get a 10.5 barrel for it! Its a little front heavy for me but the 556k Otter Creek suppressor really does wonders for it. :)
After learning from building my first AR, I wanted one last gun that could do it all, So this is my No Budget Dream gun I put together over a year. Parts List below
