I picked up a low-mileage '24 a few weeks ago, and could kick myself for not buying one sooner, especially when I consider the years of early morning, white-knuckle driving to trailheads in a crossover.
The photo was taken at Cabresto Lake, near Red River, NM.

I blame this one on the half tread tires it comes with, which have now been reduced to around a quarter tread. The sxs did not manage to get us pulled out, but a Tahoe that came by later did. Very grateful for people that are willing to stop and help.

2022 4Runner Sr5. We purchased new in SFL.
I’ve noticed this over the last few months. The ppf on the hood is the only one doing this. Anybody have any recommendations?

Do you guys think my 4runner is toast?
Hit a deer and swerved slightly off-road where i hit an old telephone pole stump followed by a metal mail box. No airbags went off radiator and engine is fine. The wheel split in half (I have never seen that before). Not a good start to the week😕

Hey all, today I tackled my bad front wheel bearing. Got a Koyo bearing along with new seals and got it done in about 4 hours.
Welp, went for a test drive and have a definitive whirring noise that seems to pick up around 35 and can be alleviated by unloading that side by turning the steering wheel to the right.
I followed a YouTube video pretty carefully and made sure to support the inner race while pressing in the new one. I triple checked my axle nut is torqued correctly. Pulled the wheel and didn’t see anything obvious that would be rubbing. Everything appeared to be where it should.
My best guess at this point is one of the seals is maybe rubbing on something but I’m a little terrified something went wrong when pressing in the bearing.
I know it’s a long shot but anyone have some ideas of what a good next step is? My only guess is maybe the CV axle?
It’s a 2012 with about 175,000 miles.

Took it to the dealer. Looks like a rodent chewed through #3 injector terminal. $789 to fix. I drove to the dealer on it. I don’t think that was a good idea.

2016 trail edition with kdss. Looking to lift a bit.
Unit will be stock with no added weight other than some gear at times in the back. 90% in town 10% off road, bush roads. It has kdss. I'm also in Canada so availability of things or prices are different that USA.
Front: would like it to ride semi soft, firmer than stock but don't want it to feel very stiff.
Bilstein 5100+ome 2883 for a ~2 inch lift? Appears like 2884 gives a 3 inch lift? Would run me about $770+tax.
Bilstein 5100+ dobinson springs? About $900
Bilstein 6112 kit with springs $1120
Rear: 5100 shocks for sure then the springs.... was looking at the bilstein b12 springs. The 1" lift is hard to find, special order. The 1.5-2" I can get, I read most find it's closer to 2" with no weight.
Theoretically if I do 2 inch front and 2 rear then I guess I'm factory for "rake". 2.5 front would make it slightly more level.
Let me know your guys thoughts!. Looking to lift the rig a bit in a sorta budget friendly way. Starting to settle on some setups, 2-2.5" front and depending on rear springs, 1-2 inches.

Hi everyone. I was hoping someone could give me some advice on the Toyota 4Runner gas power vs. Hybrid. I'm leaning towards this vehicle entering the new year but want to make sure I'm making a smart decision.
I live in a small town, and my daily commute is about 20–30 minutes each way to work just outside the city, including some highway driving. The primary purpose of this vehicle would be to handle snowy road conditions, which typically last about 3–4 months out of the year. I’d also like to use it for occasional off-roading on sand and dirt (I go to the woods often to camp, fish, and hunt), as well as long-distance trips to the beach.

Hi!, I need help I have a 1999 toyota 4runner that pass wont smog test California obd2 scan saying CAT not ready, (Smog specialist saying "runing too rich" NO check engine light after we replace o2 sensor (front) and obd2 scan saying CAT not ready, we already replace front oxygen "OEM", MAF sensor "OEM", pcf valve replace, fuel pressur regulator replace, oem injector, no vaccum leak, 02 sensor in the back OEM (not making them anymore) but before I replace the whole CAT, my timing belt was replace on 158982 miles (my car has now 238529) could that be the problem? I've spent 1700 + labor on this car; what could be the culprit?

I'm a pro at popping out the radio and replacing the clock at this point as I think I'm on revision 5 and finally happy with how it turned out.
My 3D printed mount shifts the factory clock over and mounts a ScanGaugeII OBDII reader next to it. I had an old ScanGauge lying around and found out via another post a while back that you can read tire pressures with it (besides all sorts of temps, other vehicle info, and reading/clearing codes)-- I had to send the SG in for a firmware update (only $25, despite the fact I bought it in 2013ish), but otherwise it's all plug and play!
This replaces the clock housing and the back of the ScanGauge, then the whole assembly screws in place just like the factory clock assembly. It's a bit of a tight fit, but it does fit!

Anyone using a front hitch mounted bike rack on their 5th gen? Sag/nosedive noticed?
My 2016 4Runner SR5 needs a motor. Trying to decide if I should replace it with the same 1GR-FE or if there is something better that y’all would recommend I look into.

New to the Reddit world…lucky enough to inherit this beaut when I turned 16. First and only car I’ve ever driven….just hit 250k and other than some ripped/worn out leather, weather stripping and an A/C unit that’s on its way out, she’s held up nicely. Blessed to have a “car guy” who knows his stuff and comes to me, and affordable! Wheel bearings, rods and struts, oil gaskets, and some minor cosmetic issues. One of my proudest moments in life is when i successfully repaired my driver side window motor (thanks YouTube) by myself. Anyway, next summer will be my 20th anny driving her and I will say though, I’m getting the itch to upgrade. I’ll admit- I don’t off-road, drive in the city, etc so I know it’s not very economical but dang I just love me some 4 runners. The twin turbo in the new ones scares me….so I’ve been doing some browsing in the 2017-2023 range. Would appreciate any thoughts from those of you who own one in those years.
I don’t have any real issues or amazing things to report. Just happy to be in the 4Runner family and wanted to share my 4th Gen with you. God bless you and God bless the USA

Just purchased a fifth generation for Runner 2016 SR5. I love it so much. It has leather interior and a sunroof. Just took a road trip in it and it drove like it was a cloud. I would love to get TRD pro wheels and tires and thinking of making it look like the second picture attached but I just wanna make sure that it still will ride like a cloud. Obviously, I know it’s not gonna be 100% as nice but I’m just curious to see if anyone is running the set up and if it’s still comfortable for them

So I went to investigate the noise from the cabin air filter... And found a fricken mouse den!! Or squirrel!
Where is the entrance to the cabin air system? Looking to find a way to seal it if from the rodents and maybe out some deterrent all around the truck frame...

Purchased a 2015 Limited 31,000 miles. Looks amazing. Dealer said above and beyond clean. Picked it up and has tons of rust. Getting inspection tomorrow. Feel like we made such a bad decision. How bad do you think it’s going to be?
Praying it’s salvageable.

I’ve had my car for decades, over 330,000 miles. I took it to Jiffy Lube for an oil change and when I left:
A) Fuel gage kept moving to empty. It now bounces back and forth not staying at empty but sometimes randomly it will.
B) Check engine light went on.
I took it back the next day explaining these issues. They said it wouldn’t be caused by the oil change and steering wheel fluid change I had done and it was coincidence.
I dropped it off at a mechanic with hundreds of positive Yelp reviews. He called me to pick it up a couple of hours later saying he cleaned the filter area and reset it so hopefully it doesn’t come back on and charged $85. I told him the air filter was already new. The light went back on in 5 minutes or less.
Any ideas exactly what could be the issue and how to properly diagnose it? I live near Santa Monica in case anyone knows of a trustworthy mechanic on the West side.
The picture is the code when jiffy lube plugged it in and said those are only suggestions it could be anything for that code. The only thing I feel different about the car is it feels I have to press on the gas harder for it to go like I’m forcing it a little. The only bad thing I’ve done to the car I can think of was a few months ago I drove until it was almost completely empty on gas because when I filled it up I didn’t know it could hold so much gas. I asked the station worker if the counter on their gas pump was working properly! I hadn’t gone that long without filling it up before and had lost track.
About 18 years ago I had this code and it turned out to be the 02 oxygen sensor. I asked the mechanic if this could be it and he said no. I don’t think mechanics take girls seriously and for the 27 years I have this car I’m always in search when I need a mechanic’s help without a go to guy. Taking it to the dealership will be a last resort because they’ll charge more than the car is worth. Fortunately it’s about once every 5 years that I need to take it to a mechanic so I need to pick carefully each time so they don’t mess it up.

I have a 2024 4Runner TRD ORP. It came from factory with only 4 TPMS sensors. I recently got 5 new all terrain tires and was considering buying a 5th TRD wheel to use as my full size spare. Ideally, I’d have 5 programmed tire sensors and 5 of the same wheel so that I can include the full size spare each rotation and have even wear across my full set. I just didn’t know if it’s possible to program a 5th TPMS sensor when my 4R as it stands only has 4. A lot of Limiteds come from factory with 5 TPMS sensors preprogrammed, which blows my mind. I was just wondering if anybody knows or has done this before I spend the money on another wheel and sensor. Thanks.
