I am not an animator but criticism is appreciated. Animation is based off of "Slow Motion: C96 "Broomhandle" Mauser" video by Forgotten Weapon on youtube

Questions & Discussion How do you make clothes thicker in the best way?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi, this is my first time working on a clothing mesh more advanced, and I wanted to make it a little more realistic by adding thickness to the fly, the pockets, etc. What’s a good workflow from Marvelous to ZBrush to achieve a decent thickness? I was thinking of simply adding edgeloop (I like how it shapes the seams when subdividing, since it separates the mesh into individual polygroup islands), but as you can see, all the parts are separated at subdividing, and then I was planning to just merge the entire mesh in my retopology, but I have no idea if I’ll run into problems during the bake since my high-poly is split into several parts.

Free Tutorials Painting stylised textures using toolbag with some handy info regardless of program

Spent a good while writing up this article for Marmoset Toolbag and it goes over some of my knowledge that I am had gouged into me after 22 years of trying to grapple texturing. I hope this is somewhat helpful and if you think there is stuff missing, let me know.

While I am a paid team member of Marmoset, I genuinely enjoy texturing in it ( when I was a senior env artist on Solium Internum, all the environment assets were textured inside toolbag 4)
I do want to see it get better at stylised painting. Though there are some amazing programs like 3D coat, blender and substance that also tackle stylised painting well, and hopefully the article can give you tools that you can transfer over to those programs too.

Art Showcase Keyboard scene with illustrated keycaps | Blender / Cycles

Thumbnail

A keyboard scene we put together in Blender, rendered in Cycles. The last image is a clay pass from the same scene.

The Attack Shark X85 keyboard model is from BlenderKit. Our work here was the keycap treatment, materials, lighting, scene composition and animation. We used original artwork from SuperWEIRD, the game I work on, for the keycaps, map tiles and pig keychain.

The scene mixes an ordinary keyboard shape with flat illustrated elements. In the animation, the camera moves into the Corruption spreading across the neighbouring keys, then returns to the wide shot. We spent a lot of the revisions adjusting the floating tiles so they would clear the board, backdrop and keychain throughout the camera move.

The keyboard is a visual concept rendered in 3D.

Art Showcase Feres - Real-time model

Hi, first time posting here! I just wanted to share the model I've recently finished. It's a project I took on as a part of a elective for my CG education during 3rd year of my studies. I wanted to try out and experience every step of game production pipeline for a high fidelity character model. It's my first ever real-time, realistic model (for school projects we were mostly making stylized models for animated movies). I'm quite happy how it came out, but of course there's always room for improvements with next project :)

There's more info and breakdown images in the artstation post for this project: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/P44Kg8

Art Showcase Mage 3d model: "Eyla" – Designed! Would love your feedback!

Hey everyone,
Wanted to share the sculpt I’ve been working on: Eyla the Earth Mage.
My primary goal with this piece was to design a figure tailored specifically around the painting workflow rather than just visual aesthetics:

I placed angled facets on the staff's crystal orb and deep recesses around the hanging lantern to make Object Source Lighting easier to trace and blend. Also, I struggled in creating distinct contrast between smooth skin areas, heavy braided hair, worn cloth, embossed leather, and the weathered bark of the log.

Cut and keyed into separate sub-assemblies (base, trunk, figure, hat, staff) to ensure no awkward tight angles while reaching with a brush. Also, model is cut following natural line in order to hide assembly marks

Scale is 1/12 (140mm).
I'm currently running physical test prints to double-check key tolerances and support placement.

I'd really appreciate any C&C on the anatomy (😏), drapery folds, or overall readability before locking in the final supports!

It still needs textures and a proper rig with animations, but I wanted to share the model and hear your thoughts.

What do you think of the overall shape and anatomy? Is there anything you'd improve?

I'm open to constructive criticism!

Art Help & Critique Having a hard time doing proper low poly characters

Thumbnail

I recently started 3D modelling with a focus on low poly because I thought it would be easier to manage expectations if the model doesn't require high topology or a high level of detail. And I also like the look. I completed the course from Grantt Abbit, and to avoid falling into tutorial hell, I started to go on my own with what I learned.

I decided to go and try my first character without following a tutorial, and oh boy, I'm so lost. I'm now looking for your input and any suggestions you can give me on character modelling. I have been avoiding sculpting because it seems more complicated than this.

In my last attempt I used AI to generate a reference image, and then tried to follow it... You can judge the result.

Free Assets & Tools Finally, a Free Alternative to Shapr3D for iPad, Android, Windows & Mac!

Post image

Finally, I found an alternative to the expensive Shapr3D!
I’ve tested SolidCraft on both Windows and Mac, and now I’ve tried it on iPad and Android as well. It works as a web app, and there’s a free version available.
Surprisingly, it’s quite fast and actually not bad at all. I really liked it! Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a Shapr3D alternative without the expensive subscription.

Questions & Discussion Help with altering 3D scans

Wesk over on BitBuilt released high poly 3D scans of the original PS vita Hori Grip, He also has a complete scan of the Vita 1000 console on the site.

The link to the scans -
https://bitbuilt.net/forums/threads/ps-vita-hori-grip.6220/

These are raw 3D scans with massive mesh counts (about 2.5 million triangles per mesh)
I’ve been trying to modify and print myself but I’m out of my depth.

I wanted to throw this out there to see if any 3D modellers or CAD wizards would know how complicated it would be to adjust these scans to make them fit the PS vita 1000? The grip was originally designed for the ps vita 2000 which has slightly different dimensions. The end goal would be to have these scans readily available for anybody to print for their vita.

I am willing to give this project a go myself, and some advice on which software to use and method would be greatly appreciated.

Art Showcase A model I've been working on

I've been working on this on my phone, but I'm hitting a point where u need to buckle down and learn blender if I want to make this any better, I think. Hopefully, I can get it working enough that my buddy can help me mod it into a game. Right now, I'm calling it the AAMR (Anchor Anti-Mech Rifle), and it will run 25mm bushmaster rounds. It's ~7ft long, and I plan to add a recoiling barrel, a bolt that opens the silver section on top to eject shells, and make the bipod functional in time. But as it is, I'm still really happy with it and hope you guys like it too.

Questions & Discussion Baking artefacts in Marmoset toolbag

Thumbnail

Working on a lighter model and decided to do a test bake for the normal map in Marmoset toolbag. I'm getting these artifacts around the cutouts and the main body where the bevels should be. I've tried everything I could find online, but nothing worked.

Here are the lowpoly, highpoly, and Marmoset scene files: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I7YwO0-Nd_7efcO1qceqyLBJSe21feUL/view?usp=drive_link

Please ignore the high polycount on the lowpoly mesh. Also, please focus only on the ring shown in the photo.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
