Comics Zatanna 2026 #7 - Discussion Thread! What You Loves and Thought of This Issue?

The way of Zatanna explaining the history of the Vampire is so cool. Jamal use of Noveau is such a treat to look at and quite fascinating too. Love the changing mask to showcase the different figures.

I love Jamal bring back Lady White and Adam, especially with how Adam leave lingering sadness on Zatanna. Zee seems so traumatised by the events of the previous miniseries that she doesn't even want to talk about what happened to her former protege. For Lady White, I think those flashback really give her some enjoyable character depth.

Love how Putri draw Zatanna in action, especially with how Zee posing with her spells. The snowy and night background really make Zatanna's pink magic pop up. Maher's lettering continues to excel in being easy to follow but on said page, it really shines with those effects which help to make everything stand out.

I hope Jamal could improve pacing and have longer arc (issues wise) to give us moments to relate and know what Zee feels through the story. Overall It's really a blast issue

Discussion What Merch Did You Recently Purchase? | Monthly Thread

Given the small amount of Zatanna content at the moment (or lack there of), this sub will now allow a weekly megathread for some off-topic content in order for community members to stay engaged and get to know each other better.

Use this post as a catch-all thread to talk about whatever you've purchased that doesn't necessarily fall into the realm of the Zatanna franchise.

Folks are also welcome to use this thread as a recommendations thread; ask for recommendations or give them freely.

Discussion Does Zatanna have an enemy who uses the same type of magic as her?

I’ve been wondering this as I started reading some of her runs, but does Zatanna have a villain who uses her Logomancy magic as well? If so, who and where to read their story?

From this post from u/Loud-Possible7025 https://www.reddit.com/r/zatanna/s/iQrI9jcjLM

the ADHD went ballistic with this one, Giganta/Zatanna happening more often

the neurons were activated and visions of Giganta and Zatanna filled my brain and a Wonder Woman, Giganta, Zatanna story that ends with Zatanna and Giganta having drinks at the bar in the aftermath and now my ADHD is out of control and this is something I didn't know I needed but it would give Giganta something to beyond being Wonder Woman's punching bag and it would be a villain we don't really see Zatanna deal with often and the shenanigans that could happen.

Had to strike while the iron was hot and didn't lost this

So I recently watched this Angel studio movie called Rule Breakers that came out last year. Honestly solid watch and very inspirational and this fairly unknown actress caught my eye named Nina Hosseinzadeh. She has very few things on her IMDB but she was literally the best actor in this film. I think she would make a solid Zatanna. Thoughts?

Zatanna (2010) issue #1

Zatanna's confrontation with Brother Night had the same effect on me as Superman's confrontation with Lex Luthor. When I read Dini's run, it made me think about what kind of superhero she is and perhaps how everyone should also try to do good and be kind everyday.

Whether she's saying it to Brother Night or Constantine or Batman or Swamp thing or during one of her shows, I think the inspiring aspect of Zee's character is just as important as her power and should also be shown to the general audience.

Discussion Im conflicted about Jamal Campbells writing

I’ve noticed something about both of Jamal Campbell’s Zatanna runs that has honestly kind of made me enjoy them a bit less, and im curious if theres something im missing, or if anyone else has noticed this as well? Really just looking for an outside opinion and/or some further context if there is any.

But I’ve noticed that he doesnt really write zee with that “messiness” that seemingly every other writer tends to. Campbell kind of takes her performer persona and cranks it up to 11, even when shes off stage. She offers sage advice, shows up in a cloud of smoke and a practiced quip, and immediately has a clever solution to any issue she faces. Wheras other writers seem to write her with a sort of messy, sarcastic, and “unkempt” personality that she can tuck behind the performer persona when she wants to. Jamal’s zatanna is not one to oversleep after a one night stand, and magic herself, last minute, to a sold out show. Jamal’s zatanna is not one to turn a man catcalling her into a fish to teach him a lesson. And, for me personally, as a fan of that “messiness”, its kind of disappointing to see that go away.

One of the best examples, i think, comes when comparing zees fight between the villain “backslash” and Agent Di Manes. Both villains affect zatannas ability to cast spells, but the difference comes in her solution. With backslash, it takes her a second, and once she does figure it out, its a very clever, and simple solution that leads to some very silly spells, and a really fun moment. With Di Manes, zatanna just smirks, and then pulls out the most insane solution to her problem and wipes the floor with di manes with an incredibly flashy flourish (i do want to not that this moment is incredible and genuinely maybe the coolest use of zees powers ive ever seen, and i do love it, despite my criticism)

I guess all in all, it’s just a little jarring for me, seeing zee almost act like a brand new character. Im curious if anyone has a perspective on this, Or maybe if there was some storyline i missed that explained this sudden growth, or if theres anyone who also feels the same way. Thank you!
