Hi all, returning player here.
Can the white-named NPCs in inns give swordfighting standing to Distinguished?
I remember loving monster fray missions and am looking to unlock their missions, which require Distinguished standing, if the Yppedia entry is correct.
But I seem to be terrible at PvP, lol.
I've looked up guides and videos to improve in PvP, but I'm pretty sure it just boils down to me not physically having as great a reaction time as many of the other players fighting it out.
Against NPCs I can do very well and can usually build a decent triple or quadruple combo, but in PvP I can't physically compete in speed, which is made even more apparent by the new "dueling" feature that shows just how much faster the other player is dropping blocks than I am.
So far I've gone from Able/Able to Solid/Proficient, but just recently dropped down back to Weighty/Able, which is kind of crushing my hopes of ever getting Distinguished via PvP.
Surprisingly, Distinguished seems to be super difficult for me to get, despite the last time I played, getting Renonwned (which was the monster fray criteria at the time), was an achievable (still challenging) task.
Maybe the swordfighting playerbase no longer has that many "greenies" playing in it?
Anyways, I know that white-named NPCs in the inn can give experience up to Apprentice (right before Narrow).
Can they also give standing as well? Would it be an available path for me to rank up to Distinguished via those NPCs?
It would be disappointing to effectively be locked out of the monster fray missions by PvP. :'(

Looking to rejoin the game after around 14ish years gone. Are there any LFG group finders for crews?

with the amount of players coming back, maybe we'll finally get a fun competitive blockade? I remember back in those days, they were really fun when it was competitive

I used to play Puzzle Pirates back when I was in my teens, I have brought a few friends into the game with me and they are loving it. I would love to have more people to play this amazing gem with, if you are interested please let me know!
We also play games together outside of Puzzle Pirates (Valheim, MC, Vintage Story, No Mans Sky, Tarkov, R6, Deadlock and more) would love to have more gaming buddies in general but that is not mandatory.
If you are interested at all in either my ingame name is SirDash, our crew is UFIP. Feel free to send me a message or I am Sooner535{UFIP} on Steam. Come join in the fun! We play mostly evenings or afternoons Central US Time.

I think Archipelago ranks should be hidden by default on pirate profiles, with a simple “Show Archipelago” link under the last skill in the Crafting Skills section.
This would make profiles cleaner and less cluttered while keeping the information available for those who want to see it.
If you want to see how i see what it would look like or wanna vote for it:

Haven’t played In decades but decided to check it out was surprised to see some QOL changes made fairly recently. Though, my main pirate is on Meridian which still seems rather dead. I wish I could port to emerald. I’d even give up all my items if I could keep my experience/ trophies/ and seasonal trinkets.

I have played this game since its beggining, like 20 years ago or something like that.
For the last, Idk, 10 years or so the game was dead, no relevant changes or development whatsoever.
Suddenly I have started seeing some REAL relevant changes recently, like real important QOL stuff:
- SF spectator screen
- New monster hunts
- Difficulty slider for puzzles (man this one is huge)
- Big and resizeable screen
All this was done in like very few weeks, really fast. I think the devs finally understood this game always had great potential, it just needs to be modernized and cared.
Is there any reasoning behind this or am I hyping too soon? What y'all think?

It has been fun implementing this mini-game, it's really cool seeing it come to life, I would like to show more of the other puzzles however the rest of the voyage duty stations are still rather flimsy for me to show it here. I'm happy to welcome any ideas and feedback of the Gunnery though.
Context: I have been developing this game for months, which is apparently been heavily inspired by YPP which is the game that I love since I was kid. I already have a playable demo (not bug free yet) on itch.io but I'm working on the full version currently.
I have a really limited GameDev experience so this has been made possible by vibe-coding with Claude, it's actually really epic though. The game is fully single-player mode, because I underestimated the fact that how its actually really long to develop a game and money cost wise I couldn't really afford it, so, I'm just not ready to create a multiplayer experience. I will keep it single-player and simple for now!
I finally have a steam page, so a Wishlist would help me ton! (steam page link)

Hey everyone,
A few weeks ago I shared my first devlog for my Puzzle Pirates spiritual successor, Rum and Riddle. I've now made my second devlog.
You'll see that I address some of the comments from the previous reddit post (e.g. Poker's impact on the economy). I also noted the overwhelming demand for mobile support down the line.
I basically cover all the individual puzzles, how they mechanically function, and how they all feed into the ship’s state without conflicting with each other. I also spend some time explaining my thought process behind completely redesigning the Alchemy puzzle to make it less visually overwhelming for new players while trying to keep the depth.
Link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYb5zjJu9hA
I don't plan on spamming this subreddit with every single devlog I make. I only want to post here when I hit big milestones worth sharing.
Thanks for the support on the last post, happy to answer any questions!

I don't know if that is the correct platform for suggestions, but what would you think if there is an overview of all your statistics which are tracked to get trophies. For the collectors among the players (e.g. me), it would motivate more to work toward a certain trophy, if you know how much you already have and how much you still have to work for it.
Is it true? Are more people returning? Any new influx of actual “new” people? Emerald and Cerulean are the only active oceans?

Sup guys,
I've been interested in coming back to puzzle pirates, but I have always had a MASSIVE hate on the durability system, specifically on the clothing
When I was a noob I worked hard to afford nice clothes and after a month or so they became rags... Durability for things like weapons makes sense but wasn't a fan of it on clothing

To get, say, excellent on sailing, do I need a certain fixed amount of “points” in the puzzle, or do I need more points than x% of people who’ve played that minigame recently?
Also if it’s relative, what are the percentile boundaries?
Came back last year with hopes and dreams of reliving the old school days! Anyway didn’t work out so well, no real PvP no proper kades etc shoppes deserted, SF tables empty! Tried to PvP some random ships on voyages but instead met with barrage of abuse and complaints to the flag I was in etc
Also noticed how incredibly difficult it was to rank up your stats has that been fixed? Constant excellent or incredible and nothing would move, just went down to all my stats showing as able or distinguished lol
Noticed a few posts the last few days where people are showing the server pop back up so I’m wondering is the game making much of a come back?
Any majors changes?

I've recently returned to YPP and have been loving it, but I do miss the feeling of the early days when islands were developing and you could genuinely make a difference.
These days, I sometimes look at the markets and feel like everything is already established. So, rather than falling into the usual pillage/poker/earn PoE loop, I want to try a sort of Bronzeman challenge and build myself up from scratch.
The basic rules:
No joining crews or jobbing on other people's ships.
I have to craft my own ships and produce as much of my own supplies as possible.
Start on a quiet island with bazaars but few stalls or shoppees.
Help develop the island's economy avoiding the global one as much as possible.
Eventually start a crew with others who want to do the same.
I'll have to earn my way up through the Navy and labour, get a weavery running, make my own sails, build my first sloop, then work towards producing my own rum and cannonballs.
I'm not trying to play completely solo forever — trading, working and cooperating with people on my island are all part of the plan. I just want to make it a journey.
A few questions for the veterans:
Is this actually viable, or are there mechanics that'll make it impossible?
Am I mad for thinking I can build my way up from Navy work and labour?
Would anyone else be interested in trying something similar, especially other returning players?
I imagine people already play this way, focusing on one island and making it home. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Hey everyone!
I've been playing Puzzle Pirates since around 2005–2006, so basically 20 years now.
My original account was permanently banned in February 2009, when I was around 12 years old. I'm now 30 years old, so quite a lot has changed since then.
As far as I can remember, I took some items from a crew ship, which may have been the reason for the original ban. Honestly, I don't remember all the details anymore.
One thing I want to make clear is that I've never used bots or botting software in Puzzle Pirates.
Over the following years, I created other accounts to continue playing. Unfortunately, all of those subsequent bans were for ban evasion, not for any new rule violations. The last ban happened in February 2014.
Since around 2015–2016, I've been playing on another account, which I've now had for approximately 10 years without any issues or further bans.
Recently, I started looking into my old accounts again and discovered something interesting.
I can still find several of my permanently banned pirates from 2009–2014 in-game by using the /w (username) command. Their old profiles and stats are still there, even after 12–17 years!
This makes me wonder whether the original accounts and their data still exist and could potentially be restored if an appeal were successful.
I also managed to recover old email conversations with Ocean Masters from 2009 and 2014, so I have quite a bit of documentation about the accounts and their history.
However, here's my biggest concern:
If I contact support to appeal a 17-year-old ban, could they investigate my current account and permanently ban that one for ban evasion as well?
I've invested a lot of time into my current account over the past decade, and losing it would be far worse than never recovering my original pirate.
So I'm genuinely unsure whether I should just leave everything alone or try to resolve the situation properly.
Has anyone here:
I'm not trying to justify breaking the rules back then. I'm just curious whether there's any realistic chance of getting a second chance after all these years, or whether contacting support would be a terrible idea.
Would appreciate any experiences or advice, especially from long-time players.
