This was the birthday cake my brother ordered for me as a joke a couple of years ago. I loved it and was a bit mad I actually had to cut it and serve it to guests, lol

I just finished Yakuza 6. And boy, what an incredible ride it was, playing from 0 until now.
THIS POST IS A RETROSPECTIVE FROM YAKUZA 0 TO 6 AND WILL CONTAIN SPOILARS!!!
November of last year I started playing Yakuza 0 after seeing so much of the memes online of absolute absurd things happening in the games, and of course the karaoke caught my eye the most. So I believe like many, I got into the series.
But as I played it I began to understand that this series was much more than it was presented on the internet. I discovered that it was very strong in culture and nighlife of japan. Unlike a lot of japanese made video games (at least that I know of) that try to appeal to western audiances, this series was a culture shock that I was not ready for. But at the same time, it intrigued me. And as I continued to play the games, I started to stick more to the world building, characters and story it had to offer.
Of course not everything there is perfect. There are a few notable scenes that made me roll my eyes and say what were they thinking, and some mechanics definitely didn't age well. But despite that, I just wanted to come back for more. More main story, more subsories, more minigames, more locations to explore, even though I know Kamurocho like the back of my hand at this point LMAO.
SPOILERS BEGIN HERE
Seeing how the world changes and how characters evolve in each game was so cool. Seeing west park evolve from a homeless camp from yakuza 0 to Kamurocho hills in yakuza 5 was crazy. And seeing jow the empty lot plot from yakuza 0 eventually evolve into the millenium tower was so mindblowing to me. I feel like Kamurocho is the only map in any game that got away with being reused in every mainline entry without getting stale. Because the city changes slightly in each installment.
Seeing Kiryu evolve from a low tier yakuza into a living legend and into a father was so wholesome. Yakuza 3 has some of the best moments in the series because of the orphanage. Because I took my sweet time with this series, I genuinely felt like I was growing and becoming older together with Kiryu and the orphanage. It felt like such a unique connection that I didn't exoerience in any other game. I never felt so invested in characters like this before.
And the stories in each game had me so emotional. Each game had different tones and topics in each of its stories that kept things very refereshing.
Seeing the brotherhood of Kiryu and Nishiki in 0, and then experiencing the collapse between them in kiwami just broke my heart so so hard.
But yakuza kiwami 2 just felt like an action movie with very fast pacing and a lot of stuff happening. Which I loved so much.
Yakuza 3 was much more slower pace because of the orphanage focus, but it had so many amazing moments that it made me click with this game despite its clunkyness and now it's one of my favorites in the franchise.
And yakuza 6 was just so dark. Everything that could've gone wrong for Kiryu just happened. He just couldn't catch a rest from all of the revelations and the killings. But it's my second favorite story in the franchise so far, right after 0, since it made such an emotional and bittersweet sendoff to Kiryu's journey, that it just torn me apart and I actually cried. That's the second time I ever cried from video games, with the first time being Rikiya's death in Yakuza 3. When a game manages to make you react like this, you just know that the story is amazing.
The games also had such a unique balance between heartbreaking and serious crime drama, to absolute absurd and stupid substories, that I never experienced in any other video game franchise. And these stupid yet somehow wholesome substories made you take a break from the dark main story, so it wouldn't bum you out and make you feel just bad. This mix really manages to warm up your heart and just be full of joy.
And the antagonists are really good for the most part. Nishikiyama's transformation into a powerful but cold yakuza patriarch after experiencing his brotherhood with Kiryu made him such a compelling yet sympathetic villain. Seeing how the yakuza lifestyle corrupted him was heartbreaking.
And of course you can't forget the 3 lieutenants from yakuza 0. They were all so different from eachother but all equally as intimidating. And sagawa is in my opinion the best villain in the franchise. Having him as a psychological intimidation rather than a physical one was something that wasn't really done with other antagonists. You didn't even get the satisfaction of beating him up like every other antagonist, which just showed how much Majima was terrified of him.
The only antagonist that I really didn't like was munankata from yakuza 4. But I may be biased since the story as a whole in this game was a mess and very poorly written in my opinion.
I genuinely think this series became my favorite video game franchise of all time. It's not perfect, but it's made with so much heart and mind, that made me connect with it so much. I don't think there's another franchise like this one, and i'm glad I played through it up until now.
The next thing for me to do is to go on to yakuza like a dragon, or even try out one of the spin offs! But there's a bit of a problem, but I think I will make a seperate post about in a few days, since this one is becoming too long haha

I am on Chapter 5. I keep getting beat in the Yokohama Trading Company. Is there a quicker way to level up to Level 18 at least. Its getting a bit stale just roaming the streets looking for fights.

Prior to playing this game, I had no clue how to play mahjong.
Suddenly I saw the light and it all made sense.
Since winning once, I have never lost again.
How has this happened?

So I've been lurking in this games entries for a while and yes I don't know much at all about this series, I've always been a sucker for games with fighting as meaty and heavy handed as I've seen the clips from these games be
So as a new player who just wants to hit things and have the most complex/satisfying combat while also hopefully enjoying the game,
Which game would be the best one to start from
The beginning?
The third one?
Like a dragon? Lol
I have no real concept of what games are bad good or mid in this series so please help me
Thank you in advance for any advice

I'd rank him extremely high just for Yakuza 0 alone.
Fun fact: he was the voice of Jo Amon in Yakuza 3-5 and like many other RGG employees, he worked on Jet Set Radio & Jet Set Radio Future.

Hello~
Apart from judgement/lost judgement is there other yakuza games that have the Chinese/HK mafia involved? I know in kiwami 2 there’s some Chinese mafia as a little side story but the Korean mafia is obviously more featured in the story.
I was wondering if there’s any other of the games where they are features more prevalently.
Thank you for the help!
