TL/DR: What is a cord-burning ritual/spell/ceremony if done the “Tik-Tok” way? Is it a binding spell? Can you divine it (I argue yes)?
Disclaimer none of this is written with sass but genuine curiosity and I am sharing my story in good faith so would appreciate the same from whoever comments <3
Ok so, like most people who got into their craft post-covid/TikTok, I thought a cord cutting spell was when you took two candles, tied a piece of cord around them, lit them and let the cord burn, seeing many people “interpret” the process.
I had been sitting on the idea to do a cord-cutting ritual, and last night figured to do it under the full moon in Taurus, hoping that the energy plus the ritual would help release some baggage of an old relationship. I thoroughly cleaned my house, myself, and executed the spell pretty flawlessly if I do say so myself. White candle(me), black candle(him), carved both our names and DOB, did a simple ring of salt with a tiny bit of the salt/herb mix I had from an earlier protection spell, a red thread that felt symbolic, and a pure intention to release both of us from our hard shared past, setting us free to pursue our highest good. I did think about him a lot during the spell and our times together, and at certain points could “see” our relationship playing out in the way the candles were burning, no joke.
I won’t get into detail but I could see two things specifically in the way his candle burned and the result of the cord, especially the knot (the knot never fully burned, it got covered in his melted wax and stayed encapsulated there) that gave me intel into his perspective.
However, wanting advice on how to interpret the results, and coming to Reddit, I see that what I did is not considered a cord cutting at all. I’ve seen some people say it’s a binding, I’ve seen others say it’s just bad magic, and there’s a post here specially saying you cannot divine a cord-cutting. Which makes sense that trying to understand the results is just further attaching you to that energy.
So while I agree what I did wasn’t a cutting, I do think it has the power to release energy if that was the intention of the person performing it. Plus the act of burning a cord tied between two candles does feel like it’s removing a bond, but binding spells from what I’ve seen use a similar technique. Also, if there’s agreement that Tik-Tok style cord burnings aren’t cuttings, I don’t see why they can’t be divined from, the method of the ritual is very divination-friendly imo.
All to say, I think the “spell” went well. I can honestly say I do feel that I gained some deeper insight into the dissolution of our relationship. I agree wholeheartedly that it wasn’t a “cutting”, its the next day and I still can’t stop thinking about him and feel the same pull in my heart towards him, in fact if I am going to take meaning out of the ritual, I only feel closer to him, but I don’t know if I can go so far to say it was a “binding” either, because that wasn’t my intention. So I’m curious to put out the question - what do you think this ritual is?
It doesn’t seem like this specific ritual is going anywhere, its super popular. I think it would be a good idea to get a general consensus of what the ritual is, is it a binding spell? Or just poorly executed magic?
Thank u :)
