General Discussion How do you put dates in your CS?

• Upvotes

This is a question born mostly out of curiosity. As you likely know, character sheets include sections for date of birth and date of death/the Embrace. I understand these exist so that your character has a consistent age—one contextualized by the circumstances of their Embrace. When you fill in these dates, do you just provide the year, or—like me—do you also include the month and the day?

Vampire 5th Edition Tips for playing a Malkavian

So I've wanted to play a Malkavian for awhile but the idea of roleplaying the derangement has always intimidated me. I want to take it seriously and really convey how frightening and unpleasant the condition would be, and if I can't do it right then I don't think I should do it at all.

I have a character concept floating around my head right now though of a combat specc'd Malkavian, max dots in Dex, Marksmanship, etc. I think it'd be a fun idea and maybe buck some stereotypes. Very punk, could have been a Brujah if the stars had aligned differently. Rolling around in my head right now what the derangement might be like for a character like that.

Does anyone have any suggestions for roleplaying the derangement of Malkavians?

General Discussion vampires like other supernatural beings

I found it an interesting thought that VtM clans are analogues of other supernatural beings, as it were “pretend”, under the guise of vampire clans, because vampires are mainstream and will sell better. Thus it turns out that the Tremere are “pretend” mages, the Gangrel are werewolves, and the Malkavians are fairies. I don’t of course think that all clans are reworkings, but maybe most? So what about the rest? Those in the Camarilla, the Sabbat, and independents like the Baali, Ravnos, and Samedi? Does that even sound right?

General Discussion I'm Curious, How many rules would a vampire who feeds off a small but willing group be breaking?

I had this idea for a vampire character I'd use while running a VTM game and I want to know how dangerous their situation would be in lore.

The concept is that a some what powerful vampire keeps a small group (4-6 for referance) of humans as their "Flock" to feed from. the catch being they genuinely care for these humans and most importantly is 100% transparent with them.

Each of the humans knows exactly what the vampire is, what being apart of the flock means and even what effects it could have on them indiviually, all before agreeing. if they don't agree the vampire alters their memories to forget what they were told and returns them to their normal life. As well even after join the vampire themselves doesn't try to isolate or control them, only demanding the keep their secret and the vampire will protect and provide for them.

I felt this would be an intereasting idea to explore for a vampire character for two reasons.
1: has an intereasting dynamic of a vampire who genuinely cares for what are basically multipule human partners.
2: what they are doing is Absolutely a Masquerade breach and would likely get them and their flock killed.

what I'm wanting to know is too what level this situation would be considered taboo or dangerous as I'm still fairly new to the lore and game.

General Discussion Want to get into the game

Hi! Ive never played another ttrpg besides dnd, but Ive been interested in learning another and this one seems fascinating to me. Is there somewhere I could go to learn the basics of the system or anywhere in general for me to get my bearings and 'sink my teeth in'?

General Discussion Hey there total newbie just saying hi

Pretty much what the title says I’m here to say hi and that I’m looking forward to learn more about the lore of VTM and maybe WOD at large. VTM just very recently came into my life when my friend let me play VTMB2 on he’s ps5 and I had a blast and then I’ve just been going down the rabbit hole every sense. (It happened last week lol)

So Hi 👋

Vampire 5th Edition Diablerie Veins

Is there a flaw where a character has diablerie veins but they also have a note from their prince saying it was approved and the kindres is generally good in their book?

Or is it better to just take Hidden Diablerie as a merit and Dark Secret as a flaw? Of course discussing with the storyteller about how the PC reckons they were lucky to avoid the veins or know nothing about the veins (fledgling) but won't cheese the merit in-game?

The character in question was with The Ministry. A thinblood got the jump on him and attempted diablerie but the Minister won and found himself stuck in a thinblood's body. Found out another Minister set him up, successfully diablerized his rival and rejoined The Ministry. Either the others know and don't care, or he's now LARPing as his rival while rebuilding what he lost.

Vampire 5th Edition Are men out of place in House Carna?

I’ve been thinking about making a House Carna tremere so I decided to ask some friends of mine about witchcraft/folk magic since that’s sort of House Carna’s deal. They politely suggested that witchcraft isn’t really for men. So that got me wondering if men are/would be out of place in House Carna.

Vampire 5th Edition Is a famulus from farmer a newbie trap for me in this case?

Hey, recently starting out and made my first character because our chronicle might be starting soon, and so I've been building my character and filling out the sheet and whatnot.

I decided to take the predator type farmer and took one dot in animalism because having a pet is fun but also because in character I am trying to hide the fact that I have protean for campaign reasons, with a specialty in animal ken (Rats) I wanted to have a cat or crow to help me feed.

However I'm confused by the wording, what does it mean by "Forming the mental connection other animalism powers use" it seems so vague that it could imply anything from my pet may obey simple commands to complex ones as well because of how deep the connection is as my ghoul.

Is this a newbie trap? Is the level of which they can understand me GM discretion? I just wanted to have higher humanity, feed primarily from animals and have an animal friend, hopefully it won't bite me back hard.

Edit: Thank you all so much for the wonderful replies! Will read them as I can!

Games Vampire: The Masquerade - Oaths & Ashes - Release Date Reveal Trailer

We’re the small Polish team behind Oaths & Ashes, the VtM visual novel set in Berlin. We finally have a release date (November 10, on Steam, GOG and Humble Store) and Release date revela trailer to go with it!

This time we handed the mic to Lenz.
He was a punk in East Berlin back when one pamphlet could buy you a cell, got Embraced by some Kindred who “decided he needed saving”, and has been everyone’s errand boy ever since.
His take on Berlin politics? “The Tower says know your place. Anarchs say fuck your place.”

Let us know what you think!

Media How Should a Core Book be Organized?

Hypothetical here.

Love V5. Want to keep playing that. I’m debating on making my own Vampire the Masquerade core rulebook and doing that as a Print on Demand product with errata, cleaned up rules, and content collected from the entire game line.

A 35th Anniversary Edition if you will.

But one thing I’m waffling on is the order of information.

D&D 5.5e showed that placing all the rules and character creation right at the beginning before the options (classes and species and spells) is a really good design. But that game lacks a fictional setting.

Should you introduce the world first and then rules? Have a short introduction followed by the rules (for easy reference) then a world intro? Character creation before or after the world introduction?

I recently finished these two group illustrations for a Vampire: The Masquerade chronicle!

The commission featured a wonderful cast of characters, and I had a lot of fun bringing them together into these gothic compositions. I especially enjoyed working on the individual character details and finding ways to give everyone their own presence within the scenes.

A huge thank you to Rebecca for trusting me with her coterie and giving me the opportunity to bring these characters to life! I'm especially happy to hear that everyone loved the finished prints. ❤️

I'm a character illustrator specializing in TTRPG, fantasy, and horror art, and I'm currently open for commissions if you'd like to bring your own characters to life!

Artwork Francine “Frannie” Kaminski, Brujah

Thumbnail gallery
165 Upvotes

This is Francine “Frannie” Kaminski. She’s NOT letting becoming a vampire stop her from climbing to the top of life’s corporate ladder, but she’d much rather network and do a great job. And hey, a corporate Morse boosting pizza party wouldn’t be so bad… right?🩸👠

Frannie is the 2-year old pencil-pushing Brujah I play in our camarilla chronicle. She excels in her physical strength, but only uses it when asked to by her employer, Lady D. Well, on the subject of Lady D, she’d do just about anything for her or her coterie to make them as happy as possible. She’s all about bending over backwards to make others happy and get her jobs done as effectively, efficiently, and as friendly as possible. She likes to use her strength second and try to talk things out first whenever possible.

Not to mention the fact that her original embrace was an Anarch Brujah with… a considerable level of influence. But we don’t have to get into that just yet.

Also, did I mention that her feeding type is Blood Leech, or that she may or may not have a blood bond with her adoptive sire/employer? I’m sure that won’t cause issues for her ever.

All art I’ve made of her is hand drawn by me! ❤️

General Discussion How do sires and death work?

Hello I will be playing a campaign for the first time this weekend and I have to submit my backstory and sire etc. I was curious about sires and dying. If your sire dies, are you screwed no matter what? How is conflict generally handled between sires and childe? How do you handle conflict or betrayals? Curious about what experienced players think about this stuff.

Vampire 5th Edition [Player] Looking for a game!

Howdy hey!

I’m a new player looking to find a game. I prefer playing 5th edition because I actually have the books. I’m pretty into the lore of VTM, so I know a little more than the basics. I really wanna play a fledgling Malkavian art student, who is just having the worst time; he is my blorbo.

This will be my first VTM game ever, but I’ve played D&D for almost ten years.

Unless you live in Wales (around Mid Glamorgan) I assume we will be playing over Discord, or other VTT’s, which I’m fine with.

DM me if interested!

Finally finished the first of many diet charts! I absolutely loved seeing these around and I thought I'd contribute with my own.

For those who may be wondering about his quirk- his special interest and lifelong academic obsession is thin-blood alchemy and achieving it as a full blooded Kindred, so he works with a lot of thin-blood and is basically used to drinking their blood.

General Discussion Your “best reads” sourcebook recommendations

Lowkey I feel relly left out when people post memes/lore discussions cuz i would just read the corebooks lmao, but i was wondering what sourcebooks are really good reads in terms of having cool lore and just being interesting/entertaining overall

So far: the ones on my list are the revised gangrel clanbook (since gangrel are my favorite clan), the v20 guide to the anarchs (the sect i find the most interesting and I want to run a v20 anarch game soon) , and MAYBE the brujah or lasombra clanbook

General Discussion Cobweb Campaign Help

So I am a storyteller for a Campaign
One Npc (I know it’s rare but it has happened according to the books) has gotten tapped into the Malkavian Cobweb (She is a Tremere fledgling)

Out of curiosity would there be any symptoms that they would have other than just going crazy?
(Seizures, Fainting, Sickness, etc)

The type of campaign I am running is v5 mixed with v20 so anything helps even homebrew people have done in the past
