Volunteer – local I’ll be observing a shower program for unhoused individuals today and will see whether or not I want to volunteer for it consistently!
The people who lead/host it have been very welcoming and inviting so far. I would love to volunteer more with our homeless populations and ensure that I am really providing a helping hand for our community members ❤️

Going once just to watch before signing up is a really thoughtful way to start, especially with something as personal as a shower program. One thing worth noticing today is how the regulars greet guests by name and keep things private and unhurried, since that part matters as much as the towels and soap. If it feels right, even a steady slot once a month can mean a lot to people who start to recognize your face.

Unhurried? Probably not, you want to serve as many as you can. There's going to be a KNOCK 9 minutes in telling you you've got 3 minutes! Some of the shower programs I visit see 30-50 people easily. And remember they're cleaning & disinfecting between EACH client.

ig trying it out once before committing regularly is a smart move, hopefully it turns out to be meaningful

Hi u/Trick-Permission-482, I'm the friendly robot for r/volunteer.
You picked the flair "Volunteer – local" – love that you want to help in your own community.
To help people give you useful ideas, it really helps if you share (in your post or an edit):
Where you are – city/region and country (rough is fine)
How much time you have – evenings, weekends, once a month, flexible, etc.
What you care about – animals, kids, environment, mutual aid, crisis support, events, admin, etc.
Anything important to know – no car, social anxiety, disability, childcare, language stuff, etc.
When you get suggestions, good questions to ask any organisation are:
Who looks after volunteers and how will they support you?
What will I actually be doing day to day?
Is there an induction or training?
Other users: please jump in with local ideas, safety tips and your own experiences – not just links. Let's help OP find something that actually fits their life.
