‘93 Viper - head gasket

Got the dreaded news that I blew a head gasket on my ‘93. Hoping for some advice. Since this is very much a “while we’re in there” job, I was wondering what else should be done.

As of now I’m looking at:

New rods
New lifters
New water pump
Obviously all related gaskets
Already did all new hoses

The devil on my shoulder keeps saying “CAM”, but that’s probably dumb.

Is there anything I’m missing?

Make sure you get the “slow bleed” lifters. It will give it a little bit more “pop” in the exhaust.

Honestly, you could can it but then you’d have to reprogram the computer for that, get a new timing chain set, timing cover gaskets, valve springs, etc.

If you plan to keep the car, I’d 100% can it, otherwise get the heads done and enjoy it. These cars break necks just sitting there parked as is haha

You could do headers while you’re in there?

I appreciate the info. I do plan to keep it, but the cam sounds like more of a pain/expense than what I’m willing to do right now. I worry a bit about getting into the computer on an early 90’s Viper. Could be asking for trouble and that reminder pushes me away from the idea. It already has headers, so good to go there

There was a company called Arrow that rebuilt a lot of Gen I engines back in the day. They had a list of over 100 tweaks they would make to the engine “while they were in there”. It wasn’t officially published but you can probably find it with a little Google-Fu. I’m sure some of them are for the bottom end and won’t apply but others will.
