Record I got tired of hiding my colored pressings

I got tired of hiding my colored pressings, so I built a small backlit display to actually show them off instead of leaving them in a stack on the shelf. This video is a few of my favorite colored pressings under the light. Full disclosure, I am the person behind this display (it is called Vylümi), so take the “cool lighting” part with that grain of salt. I am not here to sell anything, just wanted to share the pressings themselves, since colored vinyl rarely gets appreciated properly when it is buried in a shelf.

The Kickstarter is live now and reached it's funding goal in 9 minutes! It's is hovering around 400% right now with 1,060 backers. Join me to see your collection in a new light!

Record Albums you've picked up just because the cover goes hard?

I was looking through a local vendors mall, scouring for records and found this. I thoughy the cover was cool so I picked it up and it actually is not too bad an album. Its full of parodies of classic rock songs; some being the title song: Born to add, a parody of Bruce Springsteens Born to run; Letter B, a parody of The Beatles Let it be; Count it higher, a parody of Twist and shout; and many more. Obviously the parodies are aimed towards children but a good amount of them really aren't too bad. Letter B cracked me up when I first heard it since I couldnt originally place what the song was supposed to be parodying.

Just wondering what albums you guys have picked up just from there being a cool picture on the cover.

As a history geek I ALMOST decided to get it. But for $50 USD I'd rather spend that money on a record I'd actually enjoy. I think it was still sealed too lol

Also "Vol.2", so there has to be a Vol.1 as well 🤣

EDIT: NO, I DID NOT BUY THIS RECORD. I have also been made aware that this is in fact an educational piece of media. It was created with the purpose of edutating Americans about the horrors of Hitler and his regime - including translated speeches.

Record Made my girlfriend her own record for her birthday!

My girlfriends birthday is upcoming and she’s a musician, she sings and songwrites and is also currently learning piano and so the other month I sneakily got her to send me her 4 favourite recordings of her songs that she’s recorded and sneakily designed this whole surprise for her! One of the songs on the record is even a song written about me (Yorkshire accent)! I custom made all of the covers online including the disk labels and record sleeve, she loves old timey things and we visit lots of castles together hence the sleeve design and the front and back cover works all so well! The ep album name just figuring it out she unknowingly chose her self as I asked her one night what her album would be called if she ever had one out of curiosity and two of my fave photos of her she looks stunning from when she visited the states last summer on the front and back cover which in my option was the perfect choice. But anyways very excited to hear it play! (I’m the record collector of the relationship lol) and very excited to surprise her on her birthday in a few weeks time I think she’s going to love it! Or atleast I hope 😂. Just thought I’d share as I’m very happy with the result! It’s soo cool!
P.s. your little whore is a song she wrote about her toxic ex partner and his new relationship NOT ABOUT HERSELF!

Record It still blows my mind that this produces bass, guitars, synths, drums and percussion, vocals, keys, strings, all simultaneously. Full symphonies, orchestras, concert bands...

To think about how this technology has such high fidelity, separation, and detail too is impressive when seeing it for what it is. Not to mentioned it was conceptually developed 150 years ago, and while rudimentary in its initial form compared to mid-to-late 1900s standards, all the core concepts were there from the start.

This popped up in my FB memory today. I took these photos a couple of years ago. I was in a Goodwill in Vancouver WA back in 2023 and ran across a few copies of Adele's "30" LP. Two bucks each, all sealed.

I originally shared this 5 years ago, and wanted to share an update. I finally got around to making some changes!

The first difference is that souls of various screensaver entities have been entrapped inside the record, and are visible within. They revolve pleasantly during playback.

There's also now a side B with a lot more sounds:

- Canyon.mid

- Passport.mid

- Three music tracks from the "Hover" game

- Music / sounds from Pinball

- Clouds.mid

Record Double LP releases with this much spacing drive me CRAZY

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

This is such a waste of space and has me getting up to flip the record way more often than necessary. They could so easily just press three sides and put art or bonus content on the fourth side like MCR did for the black parade.

It’s like this on every side. So often pressing will space them out evenly on all four sides when it could easily fit on three. First world problems - I know - but it just makes me think people who don’t actually listen to records are making all the calls.

Worth mentioning I love the ritual of flipping the records - interacting with the media is one of the best parts. BUT it seems like they could be more mindful of the pressing and the experience. Flipping every 8 minutes turns it into more of a chore…

Woke up this morning to the fact that one of my dogs had inexplicably woke up in the night; and then decided to drag out and tear up my (what I think is) original The Wall press given to me by my dad. I'm not sure the LPs are intact. They seemed like normal besides what I think is a new (and deep) scuff. Honestly scared to find out if they're okay. I will be investing in a new storage solution when we move so I can leave the rest out of a closet I guess! It was in a rather full crate of records on the floor too, so she put effort into dragging it out.

This is also just an appreciation post for RAM. I thought I was in love with the record BEFORE I even thought about buying vinyl. And now that i have, I am literally addicted to it. If you’re looking for a great record with the best production i’ve personally ever heard, I’d definitely recommend it (My favorite song is touch). I’d love to hear any recs from y’all, this is my first post on here.

Record What are these and does anyone care about these things?

I’m clueless and recovered a bunch of these from the trash years ago and promptly forgot about them. Looks like old phonograph records or really weird vinyl? Doesn’t play on a traditional machine. Saw a 1920 date.

Not looking to get rich- looking to get rid of them. Are they worthless and should I junk them or would a record store or collector want them? There’s maybe 50 of them- and say “For radio stations.”

EDIT: not looking to sell them here, just trying to figure out if they should be thrown away or if they have any value at all.

Thanks all!

So some time ago, i made a post with a problem where i was getting this "dust" on my record, and i was asking for help, so i came to this sub, and 90% of the replies where of people straight up insulting me for no reason, acting like they knew what they where talking about. but guess what the problem was, it was the record solution i was using, and no i didn't need to dilute it, because the instructions said to spray directly on the record. anyways, i got a different brand of record solution, and it works great!

And in the before and after photo, notice how the "dust" in the first image isn't in the runout grove? That's because it was the solution i was using before, leaving that residue, and when i used the new solution, there was no dust on the brush because that "dust" disolved when i cleaned it😭 you guys should be ashamed.

And too the people who actually tried to help, you guys where amazing people, and i wanna thank yall❤️

Record Your most recent album that made you say "what a great album"

The last track of the album has played and as you're walking over to the turntable you say to yourself "what a great album". I know a lot of the time it can be how the music happens to fit your mood at the time, but I'm curious what was the last album you listened to that the music just hit right? For me it was Hermanos Gutierrez- El Bueno Y El Malo
