Hello everyone,
Although only a small number of members took the opportunity to participate in the poll, the winning vote was YES to allowing video posts. So, we're happy to give it a go, and from today, videos are welcome on r/vintagecats.
As always, content must meet our definition of vintage, meaning it must be over 40 years old.
Of course, with AI generated content becoming increasingly common, we want to do our best to preserve the authenticity of the content shared here. To help with this, we will encourage posters, wherever possible, to try and provide a source or other evidence of provenance . For example, if a video was circulating online before AI became widespread, a link to an older post or an official source can help establish its authenticity.
We also ask that videos aren’t upscaled or colourised using AI. Part of the beauty of old media is its grainy texture, imperfections, and charm. We want to preserve that original look and feel rather than try to make everything look modern.
We already have automated systems in place to remove posts from bots and users with the lowest Contributor Quality Scores (CQS). With these measures, we hope to also automatically catch inauthentic content.
This decision will be reviewed if necessary. If we see a significant increase in attempts to submit obviously fake or AI videos, we’ll reconsider the policy and, if appropriate, return to allowing photographs only.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote and share their views.

Hello! Just a quick update to let you know that I’m the new Mod. I’m not sure what happened to the previous Mod, but Reddit Admin has given me moderator privileges to keep the subreddit running.
I’ve given the community a bit of a visual makeover, but I haven’t made any significant changes to the rules, apart from clarifying that this sub is for vintage photographs (meaning over 40 years old).
To help combat repost bots, I’ve implemented some AutoMod rules. Bots are generally brand new accounts with little or no comment history, so accounts must now be at least 15 days old and have a minimum of 50 comment karma to submit new posts. Commenting is unaffected.
As for vintage artworks, please post them to our sister community, r/CatsInArt instead.
That’s all for now! Keep enjoying the vintage kitties!

There was only one Pyewacket in the movie, but as many as 12 different cats were used for stunts for Pyewacket. The cat in pic #3 must have been for a publicity photo as it looks different from the movie Pyewacket. Also, Kim Novak reportedly adopted the cat who played Pyewacket, as the animal trainer who owned him was said to have given the Seal Point Siamese cat to her when he saw that Kim had formed such a close bond with him.

I hope this article clipping has the quality needed to read it!
An adventure via The Cleveland Cat Club in 1907. My great-great-great grandma was recording secretary of the club at the time but wen through many positions including president and vice president. After my great-great-great grandfather passed away in 1883, she dedicated her life to saving animals, even having a home built to house them. It was essentially the first animal rescue home in Cleveland. The Cleveland Cat Club became the Cleveland Animal Protection Club which became the Cleveland Animal Protective League - an organization still thriving today. She was an amazing woman and saved 100s of cats and dogs over the years.

She is on the right. She was born in 1880 and I’m not sure how old she is here, but it’s probably 1905-1910.
Edit: I think she's older here than I originally thought, but it's early 1900s nonethless.
