So they announced a film based on iHunt this morning on variety. If you arent familiar its basically a world where vampires, werewolves, ghosts, etc are real and there is an exploitative gig economy app called ihunt where you can get paid to hunt them. I was wondering what people thought.

Lore questions  Who among the second, third & fourth Generations is the MOST terrifying?

Post image
19 Upvotes

For the last two years I've posted this question Which of the Antediluvians is the Most Horrifying? and so far the Eldest seems to be the winner, but many have given some pretty good answers for some of the others, so once again I'm going to post this question with a few additions:

The Canonical Second Generation (The "Three")

Enoch – The First Childe of Caine, named after and ruler of the First City (Enoch). He is traditionally regarded as the scholar, legislator, and leader among the Second Generation.

Irad – The warlord and champion among Caine's childer, known for his formidable strength and military prowess in defending the First City.

Zillah – The beloved childe of Caine, bound to him through a threefold Blood Bond in Noddist myth, and the object of Caine's tragic obsession.

The Crone – A enigmatic, legendary witch figure in Noddist myth who tricked or aided Caine in mastering the Blood Disciplines and the secrets of the Embrace, sometimes listed as an ancient vampire herself.

The Lovers – An ancient, paired entity/vampiric progenitors mentioned in dark mythologies as among the earliest Cainite beings predating the Great Flood.

Dracian – An ancient primordial Cainite mentioned in non-standard Noddist texts as a member or peer of the early generations.

Biblical / Antediluvian Lineages (The Erciyes Fragments)

Tubal – Son/Childe in apocryphal Noddist texts (associated with Tubal-cain, the forge-master).

Adah – One of the named childer of Caine in alternative Genesis/Noddist accounts.

Jabal – Named among Caine's offspring in The Erciyes Fragments, traditionally associated with nomadic tent-dwellers and herders.

Mehujael – Another named descendant/childe of Caine in ancient scriptures before the generation curse standardized the Third Generation.

Alternate Mythic Sires

Khe-duk & Liada – Ancient, obscure primordial Cainite figures featured in obscure Noddist and regional creation myths as early childer or Methuselahs from the era of the First City.

Cappadocius / Ashur – Founder of the Cappadocians (Ashur is commonly cited as an alternate name or identity for Cappadocius). Slain via diablerie by Augustus Giovanni in 1444 CE.

Ennoia – Founder of Clan Gangrel.

Haqim – Founder of Clan Banu Haqim (Assamites).

Absimiliard – Founder of Clan Nosferatu.

Malkav – Founder of Clan Malkavian.

Arikel – Founder of Clan Toreador (also associated with the alias Ishtar).

Sutekh (Set) – Founder of Clan Setite / The Ministry.

Zapathasura – Founder of Clan Ravnos (slain during the Week of Nightmares).

Veddartha – Commonly cited progenitor/name for the Ventrue Antediluvian.

The Eldest – The common name/alias for the Tzimisce Antediluvian.

Laza Omri Baras – Common true name/alias associated with the Lasombra Antediluvian.

Saulot – Founder of Clan Salubri; diablerized by Tremere in 1133 CE.

Troile – Childe of Brujah who slew (and allegedly diablerized) the original founder, taking over leadership of Clan Brujah while the original line became the "True Brujah."

Baali Founders / Infernalist Antediluvians.

Nergal / Moloch / The Unnamed – Figures associated with the origins of the Baali bloodline and ancient infernalist Third Generation entities (Nergal is also noted as one of the Aralu in Enoch).

True Nictuku (Direct Childer of Absimiliard)

Abraxes – One of the ancient, legendary Nictuku tasked with the extermination of the Nosferatu.

Azazel – An ancient Nictuku named after the biblical demon / scapegoat entity.

Echidna – Known as the "Mother of Monsters," active in Greece and the Mediterranean basin.

Gayomart – A Nictuku taking its name from the primordial man in Zoroastrian mythology.

Gorgo – Named after the Gorgons of classical myth, embodying hideous horror and dread.

Illuyankas – Named after the Hittite dragon/serpent of myth.

The Matriarch – One of the most prominent Nictuku, active in Eastern Europe and closely tied to the hunting of Baba Yaga.

Melachoate – An ancient Nictuku progenitor/hunter.

Nuckalavee – Named after the skinless, monstrous Orcadian sea-demon.

Vasilisa – A terrifying, child-like Nictuku who famously battled and destroyed the ancient Methuselah Baba Yaga during the Nights of Turkestan.

Yima – Named after the mythical Avestan king associated with the underworld and cold winters.

Androvikus – A powerful Nictuku descendant/servant active in Russia and Eastern Europe.

Rasalon – A Nictuku-aligned Cainite who serves the will of Absimiliard.

Mnemach – A Methuselah/Nictuku lineage vampiric entity involved in the ancient purge of the Nosferatu.

Now, which one of these UNHOLY monstrosities from beyond the grave scares you the most?

Happy Halloween!!!

Books, movies, series and such Is Damon Salvatore REALLY that sexy?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Okay, I'm officially stumped. So, a few days ago, a good friend and I were hanging out in our apartment complex laundry room doing what we usually do, getting completely lost in a deep-dive, hyper-specific geek-out session over vampire lore. And out of nowhere, a much younger girl who was folding her clothes overhears us, gasps, and decides to join the conversation.

She begins gushing about Damon Salvatore and how he's the "sexiest" vampire of all time, which me and my friend were a little put off by the sudden pivot from deep lore to high-energy CW smoldering, but honestly? That wasn't even the strange part other people mostly young women, joined in on this little impromptu fangirl rant. Me and my friend were really caught off guard by this odd phenomenon as many as two dozen people seemed to think that Damon is the Rudolph Valentino of vampires.

I'm no baby bat I've seen the The Vampire Diaries, first four seasons only, Damon Salvatore has done some pretty bad things in the course of the show such as snapping Jeremy’s neck out of spite, after Elena rejects his unwanted romantic advances in Season 2, a drunk and bitter Damon snaps her teenage brother Jeremy’s neck right in front of her. Damon had no idea Jeremy was wearing the Gilbert Ring that would bring him back to life; he fully intended to murder Elena's brother simply because she broke his heart.

Betraying and staking Lexi Branson. Lexi was Stefan's best friend for over a century and the one person who kept him anchored as a Ripper. To pin vampire activity on someone else and prove his "loyalty" to the Founder's Council in Season 1, Damon stakes Lexi through the heart on Stefan’s birthday, casually destroying his brother's main support system.

Abusing and Compelling Caroline Forbes. In Season 1, Damon targets a human Caroline, compelling her mind so she can't fight back, using her as an unwilling blood bag, and forcing her into an abusive relationship. He treats her like an object to feed on and manipulate before eventually discarding her and trying to kill her.

Murdering a Pregnant Woman (Gail). In 1994, to spite Stefan, Damon returned to Mystic Falls and attacked Zach Salvatore’s pregnant girlfriend, Gail. He killed Gail, causing Zach’s daughter Sarah to be born prematurely in an emergency procedure. Years later, Damon finished the job by killing Zach as well.

Executing the Whitmore family generation after generation. Damon’s revenge plan against the Augustine society was diabolical in its long-term scope. Rather than simply killing his captors, he systematically murdered every member of the Whitmore family line over decades, leaving precisely one member alive in each generation so they could build a family for him to slaughter later.

Executing Aaron Whitmore. Following through on his Whitmore grudge, when Elena breaks up with Damon in Season 5, he immediately reverts to his darkest impulses. He kidnaps and brutally executes Aaron Whitmore—an innocent college student who considered Elena a friend—purely as retaliation for his own heartbreak.

Abandoning Enzo to burn in 1953. While trapped as test subjects in the Augustine cellars, Damon and Enzo formed a bond as cellmates. During their escape attempt, when a fire broke out and Enzo was trapped behind steel bars, Damon realized he couldn't free him. To escape without feeling guilt, Damon flipped off his humanity switch and abandoned Enzo to burn alive.

Turning Abby Bennett into a Vampire. When the Mikaelson family threatens the group, Damon takes it upon himself to break the Bennett witch bloodline spell by turning Bonnie's estranged mother, Abby, into a vampire. He ruins Abby’s human life and devastates Bonnie, severing her mother's connection to magic. Stranding Lexi on a sunlit roof in 1977.

Decades before he killed her, Damon tricked Lexi into thinking he had turned his humanity back on in 1970s New York. After spending a passionate night together, he locked her on a rooftop as the sun came up, forcing her to suffer severe burning until nightfall purely to get back at her for trying to help him. Turning Vicki Donovan and playing with her life. In Season 1, out of sheer boredom and a desire to torment Stefan, Damon feeds on human Vicki Donovan, forces her to drink his blood, and turns her into a volatile, unstable vampire. His reckless transformation of Vicki directly leads to her spiraling out of control and ultimately being staked by Stefan to save Elena.

So could someone please explain to me Damon Salvatore's "sex appeal" because I'm really not getting it.

Lore questions  I continue to reflect on the mythological possible appearance of vampires. The question of becoming.

Pop images of bites are banal and too far from mythological image. I prefer the emotional aesthetic of what vampires truly are.

To become a vampire you must commit a sin, be a bad person, and possibly practice witchcraft. I thought that perhaps vampirism was connected with "soul powers" Suffering during life or a curse is one of the reasons why a person can become a vampire after death.

Perhaps someone upon whom misfortunes have fallen, suffering from depression and physical and psychological problem, or broken - loses a lot of their vitality. Such people have a high chance of becoming a vampire. Actually, I don’t think death is even necessary. People, who have lost enough of their vital energy, might simply fall asleep and wake up as vampires.

Then I thought that it makes sense for there to be two types of vampires: "bats" and "ghouls." They had other names, but while I was thinking about this concept, forgot it :/ It seems the ghouls were "the returned" and the bats "the letharg"

Bats (strigoi viu?) show more signs of life and inclination toward socialization. But initially they have less vampiric powers. This because they still have vital energy and can resemble humans. Living people feel uncomfortable in bats' presence - they sense a chill and lose energy. Bats enter prestigious circles and draw blood and energy from pompous social gatherings. At the same time, the bats themselves lose their sense of social conventions, and their behavior becomes increasingly unacceptable and indifferent to others. This can provoke both admiration and repulsion on people. For the bats themselves, everything around is an unpleasant dream from which it is impossible to wake up. Bats don’t need much blood because, by their very nature they don’t expend a many energy and they want to maintain their calm state. They prefer a calm and predictable environment where they are left undisturbed. Bright lights, loud noises, and abrupt behavior cause them discomfort and irritation - which can trigger a fit of rage and cause the bat to reveal their vampiric nature.

Ghouls (strigoi mort?) became vampires after death. They feel a wall between them and humanity. They feel warmth behind this wall, but they can't break through. Ghouls are cold inside and outside, but they crave the warmth they no longer have, which is the main source of their anxiety. They immediately gain high vampiric powers, which reflects one of the shadow aspects of their personality. Ghouls are driven by instinct, so they will likely kill several people until they learn to control their hunger. Emotions and instincts swirl within ghouls behind their dead expressions, and for a ghoul only two paths: either revel in blood and power over people's lives - which will lead to a quick death at the hands of angry humans - or take the long road of self-acceptance and acceptance of their new life. What mean to constantly feel an unattainable warmth that you can’t reach. Ghouls feel possessed and do not understand what is happening to them. Ghouls crave blood - blood fills them with warmth and memories of life. But this is the vessel that is never filled. They seek out various sources of warmth, whether it be a hot shower, hot food, or sex.

Because needed many factors that required to turn into vampire, there are not very many of them. Therefore, people are unaware of the trigger mechanisms that can lead to transformation into a vampire and by their negative actions themselves create them. Bats and ghouls are drawn to each other as positive and negative poles - the bats sense in ghouls the warmth that bats want to feel, the ghouls sense in bats the static coolness that their restless feeling lack. Such relationships very quickly become an addiction as strong as an addiction to blood.

Lore questions  Vampire connection with werewolves and strix

There are some connection between vampires and werewolves. Also Strix (Striges) from the Roman-Greek mythology.

Pricolici: A vampire with canine attribute in Romania similar to a Strigoi

Vourdalak (Wurdulac): A vampire in Russia derived from West Slavic word volkodlak meaning literally 'wolf-fur' or 'wolf-hide'. It was said that it was a former witch or werewolf that died and reanimated as a vampire.

Vrykolakas: an undead creature in Greece equated to vampires by its Slavic neighbors derived from the Bulgarian word vǎrkolak meaning werewolf.

Strigoi: undead spirits rise from the grave in Romania. Derived from latin word Strix and Striga.

Strzyga and the male variant Strzygon: demonic creatures similar to a vampire. Word derived from Strix and appears more of a were-owl. Strzyga sometimes means upior or vampire.
