This season so far for Cincinnati: Cincinnati enters the game with a 5–2 record (2–2 Big XII). They received votes in last week's AP Poll, but did not crack the Top 25. In the nonconference schedule, Cincinnati has wins over Boston College, FCS-team Western Carolina, and Miami (OH). In Big XII play, Cincinnati is coming off a win over Texas Tech, handing the Red Raiders their first conference loss in more than 365 days. The Bearcats also have a win over Kansas State (who has a winning record). Cincinnati's two losses were both on the road: at Arizona and at West Virginia.
Before the season, Big XII media picked Cincinnati to finish 11th in the conference.
Game Highlights
- Dampier is 17–2 as the starter at Utah. He is one win away from entering the top-six in wins for a starting Utah quarterback.
- Cincinnati is coming off a win against Texas Tech who was ranked #8 in the AP Poll at the time of the game. Cincinnati's win was due in large part to successfully limiting the Red Raiders to field goal attempts while the Bearcats took advantage of their opportunities and scored touchdowns.
- For his performance against Texas Tech, running back Cole Tabb was named the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week. Tabb rushed for 173 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns last week.
- Likewise, defensive back MJ Cannon was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week. He played crucial roles in forcing 2 turnovers during the game. On Texas Tech’s opening offensive drive, Cannon forced a fumble that was recovered by his teammate. In the second quarter, he had an interception that lead to a Cincinnati touchdown. He also had 6 solo tackles.

Hey Utes fans!
For anyone making the trip out to Cincinnati for the game on Saturday, I wanted to extend an invite to join us at The Den Tailgate on campus before kickoff.
A bunch of us made the trip out to Salt Lake City last season, and the folks at the Pig Bus Tailgate welcomed us with open arms and couldn't have been better hosts. We want to return the favor and make sure you guys have a great visit to Cincy.
Here are the details if you want to drop by and hang out:
- Where: Sigma Sigma Commons (central lawn right on campus, easy walk to Nippert Stadium)
- When: Setup starts around 12:00 PM (runs right up to the 3:45 PM kickoff)
- What We Have: LaRosa’s Pizza (a local Cincy staple), Garage Beer on tap, Kick Stand Cocktails, and a live DJ.
No need to bring anything. Just come on over, grab a drink, get some pizza, and say hi. Track down any of The Den crew when you get there and we’ll make sure you’re taken care of.
Safe travels!

Neutral fan visiting for the BYU game
Hello! I’m visiting UU next weekend for the Holy War with my best friend from college. Every year, we pick a CFB game that we have no stake in at a campus we’ve never been to, and the Holy War has been on our list for years. Bummed that kickoff is at 10am, but we’ll make do.
I’m hoping people on this subreddit can recommend things to see and do to get the full experience on Saturday. Anywhere we should eat and drink? Campus landmarks to visit? Things we should know? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Go Utes!

Can someone make a t shirt
Can someone make a Pat MacAfee hates me t-shirt? I saw some photos somewhere, but I think they are just photos.

Ok Symbol oat Utah Game?
I went to the Utah v. Houston game this last weekend and I noticed a lot of people making an ok symbol with their right hand and shaking their wrist up and down. Does anyone know what this means? My best guess is that it’s supposed to look like the circle and feather. It was my first Utah game so I’m still pretty unfamiliar with the traditions.

🎙️Discussion Seems we might be looking past Cincy to the Holy War
At least as fans, we seem to be concerned about BYU and are underestimating Cincinnati. They are the very definition of chaos and playing the part of wrecking crew. They have a weak D but as they demonstrated with Tech, they can play up to their competition. If we play down to their abilities it is going to be a long game.
We cannot afford to look past Cincy! They demand to be taken seriously!

📰 News Pat McAfee says he 'hates' University of Utah after latest 'College GameDay' appearance
Granted this was posted by KSL but it appears Pat Magafee is afraid of Utah, but not BYU.
GO FIGURE.

All I see is fuel for the team to feed off of and become a CFB Villain/Dark Horse
Whitt leaving, Pay Mcafee BS, Holy war imminent, people are still saying the Big 12 is a one bid league yada yada yada. All of this is just weekly fuel for the boys to stay focused and motivated to prove everyone wrong and be vengeful. We don’t need to be an actual villain but in the eyes of ESPN, many of those guys hate the small guy and Mcafee has at least said the words. I’d say it’s best to embrace this identity and be the hated one. That is constant fuel through the remainder of the season to keep getting the job done. There are a bunch of soft people ready to have their feelings hurt 🤪

Whitt Is a Tool
We should be grateful he “left” us with some good players. What a great guy.
I know everyone wants to forget the drama already, but this is from him today.

Thank you Mark Harlan
Thank you Mark Harlan for complaining to the big 12 conference about late kickoff times!! Totally did not influence them to give the 12 EST time slot to BYU/Utah. Please fire him soon.

When to dial up the heat on D
I definitely understand the frustration with our inability to get sacks when we send 4.
The Jackson Benee strip sack and the pressure on the final defensive sequence were noteworthy.
Jackson’s sack came on first and ten. Was part of the success of that sack due to the fact that we’d played so conservatively that a safety/corner blitz feels really unlikely in that situation?
On 3rd and 4th down of Houston’s last possession with the game on the line we played cover zero, not some scared prevent approach.
I don’t know enough to say if these are good ideas or represent good or creative decisions.
I am glad they had the intended results. I’m feeling someway better about our pass defense after Saturday.

🎙️Discussion Michigan fan looking for Whittingham insights
As you can imagine, I've been disappointed with the results so far. I never liked the hire because of his age and lack of experience recruiting/coaching in the Midwest, but I talked myself into it because of his extraordinary career.
There's not too many aspects of the Michigan job where he's succeeding right now, but I think the one where is failing the most is the political/communications part. It all started when he downplayed the Ohio State game and then said that Urban Meyer is welcome at practice any week but one and has continued through this past week when he said that Michigan playing #6 Indiana so closely was evidence that they're a good team.
Was he always tone deaf?
Thanks.

Cincy quick look
The Bearcats offense is solid. They rank in the top 25 of several statistical categories.
8th in the country in rushing ypg at 234.
20th in total offense at 455.
22nd at passing efficiency offense.
25th at 3rd down offense.
Their defense is the inverse, ranking in the bottom 25 in categories like total defense and 3rd down defense. What they are doing at a high level is creating havoc. They get a lot of sacks and are 14th in the country at TO margin.
Every conference game for Utah this season has been decided within the last five minutes. I'd love to see Utah put this away early. Who can get the hot hand to take over the game?

🎙️Discussion Pat McAfee saga
I have a new spin. Even a conspiracy theory.
Think of it this way.
1) Ever had a significant other instigate a quarrel over something small, but it wasn't the real issue?
2) Did Tony Soprano do the dirty work or send his guys?
So, my thinking is Utah's AD, fans, etc have been complaining about game times, conference affiliation, rankings, bowl selections, etc. We are perpetually whining about something. And then to top it off, there is a Utah student, on live TV, saying it's not fair that a student from the previous Game Day got to kick for 3 million. Has anyone ever complained about a free chance to win a million dollars? In the history of the planet?
ESPN is the Tony Soprano of college football. They own the SEC and they now own the college football playoffs for the next several years. They don't journalistically cover the sport any longer. They have a vested interest in its storylines, matchups, and TV time slots.
Maybe ESPN had McAfee blast Utah for being ungrateful and saying he doesn't want to return. Maybe it was to put Utah on notice not to bite the hand that feeds them, so to speak.
McAfee was the perfect hitman. He's a wild card, doesn't care, and has a massive social media following. The other Game Day personalities are too PC, diplomatic, and it would have been out of character.
So, now ESPN is backing McAfee over safety concerns at Utah, and Utah's PR team is apologizing and trying to make amends.
