Strike How do I work with the scabs on my team?
I need some advice on something I'm really struggling with. I'm a delegate for the Tertiary Education Union in New Zealand. We had our first day of strike recently. I'm personally a part of a small front line service team (the basic bitch 0800 number) and since becoming a delegate, I've signed up all of my team barring 2.
These two workers have told me the following:
One won't join out of spite because I asked her too many times (to which i replied she is spiting her colleagues putting themselves on the line to strike, not me personally
The other one preaches left wing ideas but 'can't be bothered' and then tells other colleagues hes meaning to join but hasnt got around to it. Just a liar basically.
With their support we could shut down our entire phone line. From their responses I dont think its worth it for any of us for me to keep recruiting them, but fuck me am I finding it hard to work with them professionally. I'm doing it, but I feel constantly pissed off about it. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice about putting this aside and working with them, as i don't want the office to become hostile. Scabs as they are, they are not the true enemy.
I want to be clear as well that this isn't a situation where they have no money and have mouths to feed at home. They are both single people and while yes, people can be struggling in ways you don't see, i really don't think this is the case (our workplace has failed to administer pay docks anyway as their payroll team is in shambles)
I'm finding this all very stressful because I care a lot about this and I really don't want to hate my colleagues. They are both people I like, though I wouldn't say i respect them anymore.
Any thoughts or experiences to share would be appreciated!

Request MASS REPORTING
Hi everyone, I need your help raising awareness about a company’s Instagram account and its alleged unfair treatment of employees.
https://www.instagram.com/uplavoro?dlrf=MWs2ejJmbTh3a2lt
This company seems to focus on creating funny videos and advertising campaigns to attract new employees. However, based on my own experience, workers are underpaid and pressured into working overtime.
I’m asking for your support in bringing attention to these alleged working conditions and encouraging the company to treat its employees fairly and respectfully.
If you decide to report the account, please choose the category that best matches the actual issue, such as **fraud, scams, or misleading practices, only if applicable**.
Thank you so much for your support and solidarity. ❤️

The source of building union power is building relationships
The author of the linked PEWA (Public Education Workers' Alliance) article makes the clear case that building union power in the workplace (and connecting everyday cost of living issues with the system of capitalism and imperalism) starts with building connections and relationship in the workplace.
Enjoy (and subscribe to the website if you enjoy the article to stay up to date with new articles when they come out).
