Hey everyone,
I'm a Grade 12 CBSE student from India, planning to apply for the Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) program at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton for September 2027.
I've been researching admissions, tuition, living expenses, and the study permit process. I've also contacted a UNB recruitment representative and confirmed that I can apply using predicted Grade 12 grades.
My biggest concern now is the financial side.
My family is planning around an education loan of approximately ₹42 lakh INR. A significant portion of that would go toward initial expenses, including tuition and the required proof of funds for my study permit. I'm also hoping to manage my living costs carefully and potentially find part-time work once I'm eligible.
However, I'm worried about what happens if the plan doesn't work out the way we're expecting.
For example:
- What if I can't find a part-time job for several months, or can't find one at all?
- How difficult is it to cover tuition and living expenses in Fredericton as an international student?
- What unexpected expenses did you face that you hadn't planned for?
- If the money starts running short, what realistic options do students have? Is taking on additional debt common, or do students sometimes have to leave their studies?
- For Indian students who financed their education with loans, how manageable was the repayment burden after graduation?
- Looking back, what amount of funding would you have wanted available before leaving India?
- Would you still recommend UNB Fredericton for a student in my position, knowing what you know now?
I'd especially appreciate responses from current UNB students, recent graduates, and Indian international students who have dealt with similar financial constraints.
I'm not looking for reassurance that everything will magically work out. I want to understand the realistic risks before my family commits to such a large financial decision.
Thanks in advance. I'd genuinely appreciate honest experiences, including the difficult ones.
