Hey r/uCinci!
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026! Here's what college students need to know to make a plan to vote.
Quick reminders:
- Away at school? Make sure you know which address you're registered at.
- Voting absentee? Check your deadline and return your ballot as soon as possible!
1. Make Sure You're Registered
Moved dorms or apartments? Double-check your registration address. Some states still allow registration or updates during early voting or on Election Day!
Turning 18 by November 3? You may be eligible to vote if you're a U.S. citizen and meet your state's other requirements.
2. Home Address or School Address?
- Living away from home? You may be eligible to vote using either your home or college address, depending on state residency rules. You can only vote once!
- Registered at school: Find your local polling place and check early-voting options.
- Registered back home: You may be able to vote absentee without traveling home. If your requested ballot hasn't arrived, contact your home election office today!
- Studying abroad? FVAP.gov has voting instructions and information about emergency backup ballots for eligible overseas voters.
3. Pick How You'll Vote
Early, in person: Early voting is already open in many states but ends before Election Day in some places. Check your dates and locations!
NASS – Early & Absentee Voting by State
By mail: USA.gov – Absentee & Mail Voting
- Follow the instructions and sign where required.
- Return your ballot early! USPS recommends mailing at least one week before your ballot must be received. Running short on time? Check whether official drop boxes or in-person return options are available.
- Many states let you track your ballot online.
On Election Day: Tuesday, November 3! Polling hours vary by state, so check before you go.
4. Know Before You Go
5. Good to Know at the Polls
- In line when polls close? Stay in line! If you're already in line, you can still vote.
- Name not on the list? Ask a poll worker about a provisional ballot or other options in your state.
- Need assistance? Voters with disabilities have the right to accessible voting and can request help.
