Help How do you keep your gremlin (cat) off your turntable?

My TT is on a medium height shelf and my cat has developed a habit of jumping on it a couple minutes after I put a record on; he has now caused scratches on two of my records. He only cares to stand on it when music is playing.

Nothing I do is working— he has two cat trees that go to the ceiling and multiple perches on our window, he has a heating pad, he has multiple beds. He has access to the top of the cabinets in my kitchen and the top of my fridge as well. If you came into my apartment you’d think he adopted me.

He does not respond to being sprayed with water. In fact, he quite enjoys it. He loves tinfoil as well.

Any suggestions?

if you're looking for retipping or repairs for your MC don't hesitate to get with Andy. I sent him my ptg and he had it finished the day he received it! he even fixed a channel imbalance issue I didn't know I had. Absolutely incredible communication, price, speed, and most importantly performance. sounds better than new!

Story Found this PL-518 sitting on the curb in the rain.

Five years ago, I was walking down my street and saw a bunch of trash on the side of the road.

They were clearing a house out that looked like it had been abandoned for a bit. In the pile of trash, I noticed a record player. The plastic covering was super foggy, so I couldn't see if it even still had all the parts left in it, but I decided to pull it out of the junk to take a closer look.

Turns out it was a PL-518 from 1978. Assuming that it had a whole bunch of stuff broken and that's why they had put it out, I decided to do some testing.

Hooked up some power to it and most things actually functioned pretty well. The lights came on, the turntable rotated perfectly, it could swap between modes, and even to my biggest surprise, the automatic return function worked.

The only downside was no audio was coming out, and there was no tears in the main cables and nothing externally I could see, so I knew I would have to pop it open, which I did. I found that there was only two little broken wires heading to the output just inside, so I went ahead and repaired and cleaned up some soldering and whatnot here or there, nothing really major.

Hooked it up to a $15 preamp that I had lying around and threw a beat-up record I had onto it, replaced the needle, and next thing you know, it was blasting Sublime no problem.

It's now been 5 years since I found this on the street and it's still playing and putting out some amazing sounds for me and my family with zero repairs other than the first one.

I added a little stand just above it to place the record that was currently playing, kind of like an physical play " Spotify's "now playing".

Just goes to show another man's trash is another man's treasure. And they really don't build them like they used to. If it could survive the rain, getting tossed around, and who knows what else and still play and work this well, who knows what else it can handle.

That's it. Just a little story time.

Question Mat upgrade

I have a lp120xbt

I want to replace the stock mat with this one: Anti-Static Silicone Turntable Mat - 12" Slipmat – Hudson Hi-Fi

I was told if I replace the mat on the lp120x it should be 2.5 mm, but I've seen this one recommended for my turntable before, but it's 3.2 mm

Since other people seemed happy with it for my turntable, is there anything I should worry about?

Question Vinyl question

Hello! I recently found a ton of vinyls in my grandparents storage unit when I was helping them clean it out. I just recently started getting into vinyls and have no gear to test them with. They've been sitting in a non-climate controlled storage building and some look like the outside has water stains, would it be worth it to test them out and if so, how should I clean them?

Problème de son sur mes enceintes

Thumbnail

Bonjour,

Question SL-1500CS in Asian Markets?

Hi everyone!

I’m going to South Korea in a few weeks and had a question about the Technics SL-1500CS turntables.

I am hoping to save a few hundred dollars on a turntable with the exchange rate and locality pricing for a turntable. I’ve been looking at the Korean and Japanese suppliers and saw that the CS is not offered, does anyone know why?

I have seen the C and CW (what is the CW? I know the W isn’t a color code because I have seen CW-K referred to as the black color) around on Yodobashi and AV Plaza sites.
